Russia may be threatening the use of nukes, but it's really the US who are acting irresponsibly here?
That's the sort of insane non-logic I'd expect an Orc to use. You should be more careful with how obvious you are making things.
That is what this thought provoking article conveys: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/06/russia-ukraine-nuclear-weapon-us-response/661315/
It's deeply disturbing and only serves to increase my conviction that limited nuclear proliferation is probably the safest move, as counter intuitive as that may seem.
The purpose of Irish neutrality is it's cheap. It's the ultimate cost saver - until it isn't. I don't believe there is any philosophical element to it.
2% of the budget on defence - are you mad? How could we afford all those green initatives, like retrofitting social housing with solar panels, external insulation and heat pumps, to protect those poor dears at risk of fuel poverty living in houses other people bought for them.
Number of facts in article: zero
I'm not a big fan of Martin but I was impressed with his speech. Rare to hear an Irish leader step out from the self congratulatory "oh we're neutral and that's why the whole world likes us and we have such clout on the international stage" approach and just call a spade a spade, attacking Russia not just for the war but the way it sabotages all sorts of other resolutions like on climate change.
Things hotting up in Dagestan?
Maybe even St.petersburg and moscow now as per thread below.
I think Putin firing a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine would be a PR disaster for him. Detonating a nuclear weapon in a neighbouring Slavic country when he's not even at risk of being invaded - it would make him ten times the pariah he is now.
I won't be putting a poster of him in my bedroom either and I think the UN is a joke.
But at least he went on record and labelled Putin's Russia for what it is.
Fair play to the Dagestanis. I don't know a huge amount about that republic but they seem to have a load of bottle anyway - they're not taking Putin's threats and bullying lying down.
Zelensky has apparently addressed Russian soldiers in Russian to say that:
I suspect that those conscripts may need a lot of heavily-armed babysitters.
Good post. I'm off to have the proverbial. Jesus H C. Is this the best you can up with???
caN COME UP WITH?
I assume it’s not over until putin does something insane
The main reason I don't think he will launch it, is that he will lose control of the situation.
Right now he has some control, but all bets are off if he does.
He gave Israel a good going over too, thought he was spot on
It’s just called roulette there
Zelenskyy say's Putin isn't bluffing over the nuclear threat. I think i'll be listening to him before some of the odd balls out there.
I have a little tip for them, if they can find any recent Russian conscripts, just stick a rag in their mouth, light it and throw. As effective as a normal molotov coctail, except you don't have to buy the alcohol.
Ireland bets on the bad stuff happening 'over there' and we'll just sit and wait it out - not a bad strategy. (We can't help Ukraine militarily anyhow)
They know the score.
There's no love for Russians in Dagestan decades even before now. They know Putin would love for nothing better than the Dagestan population be wiped out and replaced with Russians. Probably if an insurrection was to take root. Dagestan was always the odds on favorite.
I heard they can surrender to the international community. Provisions should be made to keep them in camps somewhere.
Tbf he has to say that really doesn't he.
He can't really come out and be like, "Yeah this lad is waffling".
Speeches don't impress me; only actions can do that.
Hold on, are you saying he's using eh lies and propaganda?
I missed that bit, fair play.
Is the Orc embassy still there? Yep, so he can f*** off. Words don't cut it.
Then I hope you also do some action away from this forum to back up your warrior talk
No I'm saying he's trying not to force Vlad to drop a nuke to not look like a bitch
I don’t agree about it being deeply immature or insecure.
Its not just a message to Putin, it’s a message to all of Russia, to its diplomats, to the chain of command that would approve something like a tactical nuke, to Putins allies and top commanders who are probably all questioning what the hell putin is at at this stage.
Its telling the world that NATO supplying weapons to Ukraine was a polite gesture to Russia to keep relations steady but if they use a Nuke then all bets are off.
Putin has been the biggest threat to world peace since the Cold War. The guy needs to be taken down a peg or 2.
I have.
Glad to hear it.
