They had some chargers over at a staff car park.
I only saw one on the plans, did I miss a few maybe?
Maybe they're cabling the other staff spaces for additional chargers so they could go up to the 45 charging bays (36 public and 9 staff)
i count 36, where does it say 45? I only saw 36 in the planning
Over on the right hand side of the site map
Reckon that’s a typo. Does it void the application?
I've seen applications get granted where the architect drew the existing buildings nearby at the wrong scale to make the proposed development look smaller
I don't think a typo will trip them up. And in any case I'm pretty sure nobody in the planning department can read
Does it annoy anybody else that whoever installed these charging points couldn't centre them between the available parking spaces? Two charging points for three parking spaces (and four charging cables) 👉️😃
Have you not read the ESB Ecars thread? 😉
Don't forget one charging bay might not equal one charger, they might have a single D.C. charger straddling 2 or 3 bays which at 36 means 12 cars D.C. charging at a time
Don't forget, it only says "bays". Nothing about charging infrastructure. Surely not though, but ecars have ruined my optimism.
Also, Dublin hub for charging is ideal. I avoid charging anywhere near Dublin when I drive there (meaning I charge along the route at too high a SOC) because it's almost impossible to.
What app for birdhill please?
Tap credit/debit card
You mean someone can just go there and exchange money for goods and/or services?
Whatever is the world coming to? 😏
Next you'll be able to pay for your charge in the shop while paying for your cup of coffee like we could with petrol and diesel back in the olden days
Note only one car can charger at a time per pillar. So 2 cars max. The way charging ports are cars may need to be in either spaces. Not ideal.
Saw this now..
"In its application letter, SSE Airtricity says that the proposed development will be part of an intended nationwide network of managed charging stations". Oh?
So it's SSE installing the chargers? I wonder are they in partnership with Applegreen, the same way Circle K and Ionity were
Nationwide network sounds promising, although I'm still measuring success by chargers installed and available, rather than promises made
I'm too cynical after the Ecars "expansion"
And then where will it end? Maybe with some young underpaid forecourt attendant who will help the old ladies plug in their cars 😱
Or perhaps on-site staff who can help start the chargers when they're not connecting to the internet
Where will the madness end???
Again reference to one of the Bjorn's videos. Like in Glimpse into the future 20 years from now in Ireland time 12:05 for about a minute
Great that Ionity got someone out there to help, although I'm not sure it'll become normal. The push in service stations is for fewer staff, not more
Many many years ago I was a forecourt attendant. Literally the worst job ever, dirty manual labour for below minimum wage. And ever so often someone would rob the shop and the boss would ask why we didn't stop them
My response was something along the lines of "you think I'm gonna risk getting stabbed to save you a packet of skittles? How about you stop them next time"
I didn't last long in that job 😏
However, there were a fair number of elderly people would come in and ask me to fill their cars up for them. They'd often ask me to put a certain amount in then hand me the cash so they didn't have to get out of their car.
I felt like it was a bit of public service since I'm helping out someone who probably has some difficulty getting in and out of their car maintain some independence
Now I'm trying to imagine how an 80+ year old is supposed to lift one of those heavy HPC cables or try to figure out how to start a charger. I think it would be a good thing if service station staff were around to help people with that
When you already have a shop there it's not a crazy move to be paying the shop attendant for your electrical fuel
I'd wager that in the not-too-distant future the technology in the cables and connectors would be such to allow more power and less weight. Rapid induction charging could very well be a thing in the future also
Saw this from NI Facebook group. I believe the fees for connecting power in NI are a lot higher and there is no subsidy or cap available so sites that need supply upgrades are not really viable.
Look at this site in Ballymount!!!!!
2 CCS only units and 4 CCS & CHAdeMO units!!
Bloody EPIC
What sort of mad man decided more than one dual CCS/Chademo unit was best practice 🫣
8x CCS & 4x CHAdeMO…… we’ll take it!!!
look at the length of those cables!! Any car in any spot will fit!!!
Never been there, but looks the real McCoy. I'd say a busy spot, hope iceing not a problem.
Perfect location just off the M50 and only a very short hop to the N7
Any idea how much power they can give? Hope they're rated for something like 200kW per unit with load sharing
Well they just buried Ecars best effort in the ground, that's for sure
If that's the plan for all the Applegreen motorway and main regional route stations then fair play to Applegreen. Puts ESB, Ionity and even Telsa to shame.
Edit: just spotted the card payment logo there as well so no app needed either.
Where'd you see that? I can only see the RFID reader
