If they got teams from all European countries to work on it they could finish it in no time. Go into emergency mode.
Intercepted Russian phone call
Actually it does. If Russia gains a military advantage by ignoring the GC, and you need to also ignore parts of it in order to stave off defeat, then doing so is the correct thing to do,and is perfectly justifiable. At this point I doubt you could find a single point of the GC that Russia hasn't ignored and contravened, multiple times over.
Wagner group members found dead in Ukraine
Some of middles eastern origin,so some syrians are obviously there
Wagner groups slogan is «i dont believe in anything,i am just here for violence» says it all really
This is the tactics Russians have used since 2014
Place artillery in civilian populated areas, cities and villages, fire of a few round and wait for Ukraine to shoot back and then offcourse hit the civilans as well,so they can use this in their propaganda how bad ukraine is.
Same tactics and excuse Russia used to trigger a conflict in Georgia
So they had an excuse to invade.
And same tactics they use at the nuclear powerplant, waiting for Ukraine to respond and blame them after.
Very difficult to join them up. The French have been opposed to a pipeline going through the Pyrenees but I suspect that has now changed that this is in the mix. It would make sense to have some point of connection in central Europe as gas is going to be needed for a long time in Europe. At least gas pipelines could be reused for green hydrogen or something similar in the future unlike oil pipelines but I suspect the cost of a central interconnector would be too costly.
Surely the EU will also now support Nigeria and Alergia in the building of NIGAL. Also Galsi will have to be looked at again considering Italy will no longer be able to rely on Russia. Interesting times ahead.
"U.S. officials estimate that about 500 Russian troops are killed or wounded every day in Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, The New York Time reported that with reference to the latest estimate by American intelligence and military officials.
According to Seth G. Jones, the director of the international security program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, such large losses significantly exhausted the Russian army and reduced the effectiveness of its actions on the battlefield.
“The Russian Army is seriously depleted. That has implications on their ability to fight an effective ground campaign in Ukraine,” he said, adding that Russians probably don’t have enough effective combat forces to even to fully take control of Donetsk region.
According to Evelyn Farkas, the director of the McCain Institute, the Russian authorities are taking every effort to attract new recruits for their army.
“They’re pulling people from all over. Unless they have a mass mobilization, which I don’t see them being able to do at this point politically, they’re going to be at a loss,” she said.
According to retired Gen. Philip M. Breedlove, who was NATO’s supreme allied commander for Europe, the Russian military has lost so many troops that in some cases units have tried to force captured Ukrainians to fight." https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-ato/3549025-about-500-russian-troops-killed-or-wounded-every-day-in-ukraine-nyt.html
The cost of Putin's ego is horrendous.
Money and cost tend to be a minor issue when it comes to the EU cash and they can support and fund projects worth hundreds of billions as required.
The true culprit has been found - should have guessed.
I don't think it would make a difference, Russia would just threaten more nuclear catastrophes and the West would say it's not worth the risk.
I hope we don't have to find out.
The Russian public don't even seem to care. They are a very strange nation : I'd say if you could prove to them that 50,000 Russian troops had been killed in Ukraine, most of them would just shrug their shoulders and say "so what?". The lack of concern about even their own casualties on their social media channels is extraordinary.
Since their huge losses in WW2 they have taken it for granted that this is the cost of war.
Russia seems to be a real life Panam from The Hunger Games. Once the Capital and its citizens are fine. They dont care. The other districts can take the sacrifices, blood, wars, deaths, etc.
I've often drawn attention to this point too. It's very strange. Total indifference towards the suffering of both their Ukrainian "brothers and sisters" and their own soldiers dying there. As if the death of the communist dream left a society where the vast majority care about no one but themselves and maybe a small intimate circle.
Sign of not taking any personal or communal responsibility and leaving all to the state to decide. What would change that, though I don't see it happening, is the sort of death & destruction that Ukraine has suffered, visited on their large population centres.
Sounds like you wish for that to happen.
I don't think it will either.
On another note, re: all the Crimea speculation, interesting that Zelensky has told members of his government to stop leaking details of/bragging about Ukraine military tactics to the media, that the less they reveal, the better positioned they are.
No, not at all - but when it comes home, that's when it'd hit the Russian public right in the eyes.
Here’s an idea, let’s build an LNG terminal at the end of the pipeline and ensure supply from their towards the UK and mainland Europe. ( I realise that involves minor engineering works on Moffat that as far as I know will be happening anyway).
It's as if they don't value human life at all. A full scale war going on on their borders and nobody seems to give a damn about all the people who have been killed.
Say what you like about the Americans but they make a very big deal about their military dead and are always upset by it.
Which is why a visa ban is needed, show the rape, looting and murder that Russians are doing and dozens of thousands dead and they shrug
take away their ability to travel to civilised countries and get luxury goods and they rise up as it impacts them directly
god forbid the mistresses can’t travel to Europe
Ireland won't even keep Kinsale open and the pipes are being decommissioned. No party wants to make real decisions in this country. Mag Mell was a potential solution but the Greens will ensure that won't happen. Ireland is in big trouble over the next decade for LNG and we will be waiting for solutions abroad to fix our problems.
Maybe this winter might change the opinion of people towards LNG instead of listening to the Greens and doomsday merchants like John Gibbons, Oisin Coughlan etc. (None of whom have any credibility or qualifications to talk about LNG or climate change for that matter!)
Well an LNG in Ireland makes sense as we are at the end of the line.
So some engineering with the Moffat lines and we can pump gas into the UK and European grid from our LNG.
American piousness about their military dead in wars like Iraq or Vietnam angers me, those were wars of aggression and those soldiers were not heroes. But I take your point, and the contrast to Russia is huge. Even the deification of the WW2 generation in Russia is warped as the the horrendous brutality of how Russian soldiers were treated under Stalin is airbrushed out.
And yeah, the general attitude is baffling. That extraordinary female journalist can hold up signs about dead Ukrainian children in court and 90 percent of her compatriots just shrug with indifference.
It's easy to be full of righteous indignation about the dead - it looks good and costs little.
The Americans (and doubtless lots of other countries too) need to take better care of the ones who live through it all and come back with the inevitable physical and mental scars.
Since when have the Russians needed a justification for shelling civilian or indeed any areas in Ukraine??? If the Russians were not attacking civilian's, there would not be any need for the Ukrainian Military to be based in their cities to defend them. There is only one side 100% at fault in every instance in this war, and that's the Russian invaders. Every action taken by Ukrainians is in defense of their Country. What or where is the Russian justification?? I'll tell you where....they do not have any. They are murderous scum, killing innocent men, women and children. Intent on pillage, rape and mass destruction of property. Slava Ukraine.
Yes, it does make sense but not many decisions in the civil service/government make any sense e.g. importing peat to "improve" carbon emissions (10k tonnes in '20, 42k tonnes in '21). Same issue will happen will continue to happen until we have actual experts and not charlatans leading the charge. Thankfully some good people are starting to get involved in these issues but progress is slow and it doesn't help that the likes of Matt Cooper and co. continue to give a platform to the likes of Gibbons and his ilk on these issues, influencing public opinion. LNG will be a factor for at least another 50 years, rightly or wrongly.
double post
I think it might be something to do with the ginormous size of Russia too. Dublin to Kyiv is about 3000km. There are parts of Russia that are over 11000km from Kyiv! And so many of the soldiers being sent to Ukraine are from far flung, impoverished regions of Russia, they’re culturally and even visually not what any of us think of as Russian (western Russians included I expect). If there were more soldiers from Moscow, St Petersburg, etc, being killed like their rural counterparts are, it could be a different story, but as it is, the needless deaths are just not resonating with most of them (which in fairness, might have something to do with the actual amount of deaths being massively underreported in Russia)
