It should be the same rules for all refugees. Full stop.

I don't agree - Ukraine have set criteria for men - which men should serve in some capacity and who should be excused. Ukraine wants our help in all manner of ways and one of those ways is for them to have a suitable cohort of men for duty. Zelensky should be making this very clear, that he wants any men eligible for conscription back in the state. We shouldn't be sheltering them from their responsibilities.

How difficult would it be for irish people to travel to the huge safe area in Ukraine and get a passport so they can avail of all these freebies here?

"Foreigners may naturalize as Ukrainian citizens after living in the country for a continuous period of at least five years. Applicants must have been issued an immigration permit, demonstrate proficiency in the Ukrainian language, and renounce any foreign nationalities. The residence requirement is reduced to two years if an applicant is married to a Ukrainian citizen, or if they hold refugee or asylum status."

Basically more complicated than getting Irish citizenship as here you don't need to give up your other citizenships or be able to speak English.

I really find all this accommodation searching, requests on FB quite alarming and disturbing, contacting complete strangers on a SM platform requesting accomodation, offering accomodation and clearly young children involved.

I can understand desperation despite all that's on offer but parents seriously prepared to put children in accomodation with unvetted total strangers is not just alarming but disturbing and this practice supported by groups purporting to be supporting Ukrainian refugees.

Whilst not surprised FB doing nothing about this , surely Government agencies should be looking into this .

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

That's unfortunate, I guess the only way for irish people to get equality in terms of the freebies available will be to take to the streets.

If there's one thing the political elite in the country listen to is potential civil unrest and they'll do anything to prevent it, winter will be very interesting!!!

You could try and become a family member of another Ukrainian already here and move in with them to enjoy the free meals and the benefits? Well, free heating for the winter!Just think about it!

Lol, too late for me but if I was younger that would definitely be a very viable option.

Of all posts on this thread this has to be the most stupid I have seen.

Why would an Irish person travel to a war torn country and try to get Ukrainian citizenship to return to Ireland to get a social welfare benefit that they could already legally obtain?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭kravmaga

Unfortunately we have a lack of strong leadership in this country and a lack of courage to face facts of the matter.

    M. Martin and L. Varadkar are imo very poor leaders, lack insight and dont stand up to the EU overlords in Brussels HQ.

We cannot keep this up, the cost, the social cost , I agree with another poster that some very very unsavoury characters are being let into our country without proper checks and balances.

A source in AGS has concerns , we dont know who we are letting in, I don't mean the women and children from Ukraine. Men are arriving in the ages 18-60, I was under the impression Zelensky said if they are between these ages they are not allowed to leave the Ukraine.

    a question.

do you think if Ireland was invaded that the Ukraine would reciprocate ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

Because you don't get free accommodation, free electricity, free heating, free 3 meals a day, free laundry, free travel, free entrance to events on regular dole whilst still keeping all the base dole cash, the deal will only become sweeter in the winter with inflation, electricity, gas price increases.

    Think beyond stupid.

They probably will but you ll be on your own there. Those that left the East and are currently in the West are getting no help from the government.I saw some Bill the government of Ukraine passed to do with social welfare but you can’t live on that anyway especially considering you d need to rent a place. Besides rents shot up in the West of Ukraine because of the influx of refugees from the East. Property prices gone up too.

I too feel the exact same. Have never taken part in a March before but I would and more this time.

I would hope it’s a really hot day and emotions boil over .

I cannot comment on refugees as said by you and other poster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,002 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

    Yes.

Do you agree with the other poster I responded to that Irish people should leave Ireland to go to Ukraine which is currently a war zone to try and get citizenship there and a Ukrainian passport to return to Ireland to get social welfare entitlements?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭kravmaga

@ Hunter 2000, see my reply, earlier , we dont have strong leadership with MM and LV in charge.

Meaning no one will be held accountable.

Why are you editing your posts I was replying to the first reply.

I think your getting the wrong end of the stick , no worries though.

Not able to answer the question I take it.

Just have a set few "populist" slogans to rant off whenever questioned?

I think the point went over your head. It was given as an example of the low cost of living there compared to here. Things are much more expensive here. The people will be living here though. Not in Ukraine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,325 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

Ah, touched a nerve I see.

Regardless, if you are living pay-slip to pay-slip, or collection-day to collection-day, you can't blame that on some Ukrainians coming in since March. It's highly likely that anything changed since then. You'll still be getting your pay-slip or collecting your money at the Post Office or wherever it is that people collect it.

    You DO ? 😳🫣

’do I agree with the other poster that…’… listen , quote the post I’m not trawling through an entire fast moving multi page topic ffs to see who said what about which..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,325 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

    Same for Russians?

If some Russian living in Dublin, working for Facebook or similar, receives a conscription call up, should the Gardai round him up and send him over? I mean if Putin wants him back in the army, should there not be consistency? You don't want to be sheltering him from his responsibilities now would you?

You agreeing or not is irrelevant. There is a system for asylum there that is based on global agreements. They're likely not going to change it because some anonymous poster on boards.ie suddenly decided that they don't agree with it. I mean, you could send a strongly worded letter to the UN. You never know, they might listen to your disagreement and decide to bin the entire system. No harm trying.

I did it's actually in my reply to what you quoted.

"Do you agree with the other poster I responded to that Irish people should leave Ireland to go to Ukraine which is currently a war zone to try and get citizenship there and a Ukrainian passport to return to Ireland to get social welfare entitlements?"

Same point keeps going over your head too.Read my last sentence in that post, please.

If living in rented house accomodation, fair enough-full benefits are needed. If everything is paid for (accomodation, food, bills) - 38pw (whatever other assylium seekers get) will suffice.

If the above amount is enough for non Ukrainians refugees, it should be enough for any others, no?Well, other EU countries decided that’s the case. The minute it happens, you may be surprised how many go back home like those others 3 million out of 6.7 that have already returned home .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,273 ✭✭✭xxxxxxl

Living here now were getting somewhere. Glad someone had the courage to admit that. So how many that will be living here can we take in with our current problems ? Surely if we take in to many Ukrainians already here will suffer disproportionately. Or is the humane thing to do is to stack Ukrainians on top of one another in Tents. 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,232 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

That isn’t a quote, it’s a summary of what they may have said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,273 ✭✭✭xxxxxxl

We must have missed the part where Ukrainians are not being Treated as Refugees in the EU.

Stupid because irish citizens are second class citizens in their own country? Hmm ok.
