How do people feel about this one? Will it be short and sweet?

How is this fair on the rest of the country that are not Dublin. Why should they subsidise your wage so you can work in Dublin. That is a personal choice. Last I checked the population outside of Dublin is 3/4 times bigger than population of Dublin so this will never be a runner in this country. So Teachers and the rest of the public sector have the same options us mere mortals in the private sector have, live a bit further out or sacrifice other areas of spend to live there.
Personally I would fully support a dublin weighting for salary, similar to the uk and London.
From a letter in today's IT on the accommodation crisis...
Una Mullally makes two points which are, I think, worthy of serious attention. The first is that young teachers and other public servants cannot afford to live in Dublin. We’ll pass on decentralisation as a possible partial solution – we’ll always need teachers in Dublin, and, in any event, that bird has flown. But pending the introduction of solutions on the supply side which, it seems, everyone knows about, should we not do something on the demand side?
A teacher or a garda who has to live in Dublin faces far higher living costs than her compatriots in Drumshanbo. Should salaries not reflect that? Unions which have just concluded a campaign to eliminate a two-tier pay structure, which they were complicit in introducing, may baulk at the suggestion but it would appear to have some merit.
Apply opener to can of worms and turn handle... 😁
The real prospect of their children spending hours a day in "free classes" or even being sent home softens the cough of a lot of PS bashers, that's why.
I don't disagree, but somehow teachers have a much greater media pull than other CS/PS staff
Don't think so its the same in every profession its not just the public sector suffering the inability to fill roles due to inflation and the high cost of living and lack of suitable accommodation.
You're not alone. The media reports about the inability to hire teachers in Dublin might spur on some action
I'm losing patience.
fair level of complicity here. each side knows the fairly narrow range of end result and each side knows that there has to be seen to be difficult negotations in order to get there so that they can come back to the nation (govt) or the unions members (unions) and say "we had to scrap for that and its not going to get any better than the deal agreed.
so this middle piece is all performance.
its far too cosy. the union is as terrified of escalation and action as the govt so theyll work harder to avoid that than they will to guard their member's rights.
Their negotiating strategy is either very, very cunning or very, very stupid...
Fingers crossed I wonder if the unions have things going on in the background that we don't know about. Or are they just waiting it out.
I'd say there may be some movement in the next week or 2. The AGSI have written to the WRC asking what the story is.
I don't know. It would depend on the redundancy package and the current job market. Nobody will be out of work too long.
I have 18 years service. I'd love to see what a redundancy package would look like for me.
I’d take still having a job over an 8% pay rise before I was made redundant
Just some perspective.
Profits
Job loses
Everyone at Ulsterbank got a 4% pay rise in April, anyone under €45,000 is getting an additional 4% now (8% total).

100% agree. But I would like to see a bit of urgency around the talks. The summer economic statement just predicted a huge tax surplus. Why wait for tax returns to plummet to ask for an inflation-tagged pay rise?
I think we all want to avoid strike action including Government. There really are no winners. I'd be keeping that for the upcoming recession and predictable cuts that will come with it.
There is nobody saying that CO's are layabouts. Everyone who has gotten promoted to Eo or HEO have been in the exact same position as you. This is about a pay rise.
I think there should be a 5 percent pay rise across the board. I do feel though that the increments at CO level should be shorter than 12 months for the first 5 years maybe. Perhaps have an increment every 9 months or so.
I'd like to hear Forsa lay out their plan. So far, it seems to be "we asked, they said no, oh well."
Surely they should be making an effort to get the government back to the table quickly. I mean, there even appears to be agreement at senior cabinet level that a deal needs to be made.
On a related note, I see strikes and threatened action getting more prevalent across Europe...
….
Really - the area im in used a situational job test which was no where near the sample tests on the public jobs - im sorry what’s the difference in answering slightly, strongly ageeeable or agreeable (or vice Versa) the nationwide eo was a bit fairer with good/bad/adequate responses
Sounds like a tough day , fair play. Not one poster said COs are doing minimal work or are layabouts. Do you feel that the grades should be pushed closer together then? A CO getting saying a 20% rise , EO 10% HEO 5% and so on?
As a lowly CO I spent most of today (and probably the rest of the week) training a complete newbie how to do the job whilst fielding questions from four other almost complete newbies in a room separate from anyone else and a newbie EO in another room with many other newbies trying to answer their questions
My head was melted at the end of the day - bring on the pay rise and a big raspberry to anyone saying CO's are layabouts doing minimum work for their pay
Theres a few that do case studys.
I think you have to do tests in Garda and Revenue...not sure how many others
I've never heard of Departments doing testing for their internal competitions.
Move Department to one where the internal competitions are administered in a way that is more sympathetic to your perceived strengths
Or
Get better at the tests.
Some departments such as DSP dont use tests.....interview and application form only. I was promoted within a year from CO to EO. I had previous service in Revenue and CSO
Not one example of open sneering that ive seen. Adios.
