It was done that way here, but I believe the chemical treatment is now illegal. It certainly is in the UK. The hormones used made their way into the food chain. Still used in the US though.

I assume it'll be people keeping free-range birds , presumably on a smaller scale , unfortunately anyone I knew of or know of keeping small scale birds has either gotten out or getting out it ..

I assume this was done with the males of traditional dual purpose breeds ? Maybe see if any of the breed societies have contacts ?
