How do people feel about this one? Will it be short and sweet?

The higher really jumps up at AP and above haha.Presume thats talent retention thinking. Although if its just long termers theyd probably be safe enough not to give them the higher.
Latest inflation estimates might give this some impetus again
"Inflation in Ireland is estimated to have risen in June to 9.6%, according to Eurostat's 'flash' estimate published this morning.
Inflation across the euro area is estimated to have risen to 8.6% from the previous record of 8.1% in May as the consequences of the Ukraine war continued to hammer the European economy."
Meanwhile they're watching the tax take go up due to inflation.
That's because there are seperate competitions for AP1 and PO1 so they're genuine promotions linked to specific Depts (Taoiseachs, Finance and PER)
Aah that makes sense! Thanks
Not a peep from the Reps in my place. I reckon they have sent a grand total of 3 emails around this year. Nothing from them to gauge members views on blended working or any update on pay talks.
Why don't you give them a shout?
Irish inflation estimated at 9.6% in June - Eurostat
"The euro zone inflation reading was higher than expectations for 8.4% and was driven mainly by energy prices even as food and services also made a marked contribution
June inflation would have been even higher, analysts say, if Germany did not introduce temporary relief measures on fuel and transport, supporting arguments that further price pressure are still in the pipeline."
serious compensation now required for ordinary workers .. people who have always been able to heat their homes, put food on the table, pay their electricity/gas bills, put deisel/petrol in their cars to go to actual work are struggling massively and this will worsen heading into this winter unless something done .. only other option is massive industrial action to make government see sense
Everything is going through the roof at present. I get the Governments issue. Throwing money at inflation will possibly make the issue much worse. But then at the same time workers need to be able to live.
I paid 180 euro for 2 weeks parking at Dublin Airport for next week. That's crazy and in no way should be allowed to happen.
latest from electric ireland 30% rise in gas and almost 11% rise in electricity from next month ...... with more to come later in the year ..
the public sector unions are not asking for enough by the looks of it in the lastest negotiations...
I don't know what the government is waiting for. With each day that passes their offer will need to increase. Just today inflation at 9.6% and Electric Ireland with another price increase.
They should have bit the hands off the Unions with what they put on the table a month ago. It'll look cheap in the long run if this keeps up.
Agree - it might spur the Govt into coming back to the table as the sooner a deal is doen he lower they migth get away with at this rate.
Do we have any indications as to what the unions might have put on the table?
With inflation continuing to rise I don't know how they'll figure this one out. I presume government will hold off on offering a pay deal until the budget where they'll offer it 'in conjunction' with general budget measures like new tax brackets which will increase take home pay.
https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2022/0701/1307859-pay-talks/
Kevin Callinan (ICTU) said it is "quite an unusual situation" because "bizarrely there is no contact" between the unions and Government representatives through the WRC. He said the WRC said there was no point in resuming talks "when one side, in this case the Government side, wasn't prepared to move its position".
Pay awards in the WRC for private sector companies are 3 to 4 % , hard to see public servants getting anymore considering public sector get increments already .
different in every dept and one of the more arcane little pieces of weirdness in most depts ime
watch and learn i guess
You just won't let go of the whole increments thing, will you?
Mehole coming out now saying pension age should not increase past age 66 which will require higher PRSI contributions. FF and FG both terrified of rising popularity of Sinn Fein. They may change tax bands a bit so a lot of us pay a little less PAYE & USC but likely this will be offset by increase in PRSI contributions.
"Mehole" has to be the most pathetic insults on the go. Talk about cultural cringe.
How many workers out there don't even have union representation.
When people talk about "ordinary workers " it's not insulated public sector workers who come to mind.
Detached completely
Any rises will just further fuel inflation and it is the actual real ordinary workers who will feel it
Good god , do increments have to be explained to you? Jesus
A nurse or a Garda isnt a real ordinary worker? You think rising 350k peoples salarys in a country of 5 million when inflationary pressure is from global reasons will fuel inflation? Give your head a wobble.
How much is the average nurse and garda salary?
It is not the ordinary worker salary. It is far higher.
Yes pay demands could cost the tax payer over 1.5 billion additional . Lowest paid ordinary workers to suffer more.
The I'm alright jack attitude is back in Ireland I see.
Lowest paid suffer more? Course they do , **** captain obvious.
The average nurse or salary wage would be an average salary compared to the "ordinary" worker.
The average salary in Ireland is over 50k!
Are you sure?
Is median not a more accurate measurement
It sector ? Developers on 80k +
Finance? Similar etc
Are these ordinary workers?
What does ordinary mean? Are trades people not ordinary? A nurse or a gardas average salary is very much ORDINARY or a teacher for that matter. You have given no examples , just an absolute WUM.
