I drove to Navan yesterday for work. Despite being in Mordor, Navan is a fine town.
My job is based in Dublin for about 80% of the time, but I could be anywhere in the State otherwise. My partner's job is unremoteable and is niche enough that roles are hard to come by.
Now say we were one of those unfortunate couples who were desperate for housing, we could move to many places on foot of our salaries. But alas, we'd also not be able to stay in our jobs.
This fundamental problem that blanch doesn't get is that the houses are not where the jobs are. And people don't want to move to Edgeworthstown just to have a roof over their heads.
We have an allergy to good quality housing in any sort of density, in places that people want to live with infrastructure to support it.
We should aspire to having Freiburg's everywhere in Ireland.
I thought a compulsory pension plan was being rolled out for every citizen in the next year or two? If they get that up and running properly (perish the thought) that will definitely go a good way to defusing the timebomb
We are told if we work hard we will reap the rewards. A modest home of our own is getting further away. A reasonable rent is too. Our retirement is in danger. Seems to me the system doesn't work for the average working person. So, of course, the average working person has to make sacrifices. This would be fair enough were the ones setting policy not suiting themselves and looking after 'their own' on our dime.
Politicians with a few pensions for life, after a few years work with expenses, should really go **** themselves IMO.
The country is in a bad way. Look at this poor fella:
Cue he should buy a gaff in Navan 😂
Pretty sure I've heard in the dáil at least 6 times or more this year that there was no magic money tree. Maybe 38 times when debating with SF as they keep saying to them where is the money going to come from. and quoting the "SF MAGIC MONEY TREE"
Just the other week FF or FG said there's no money tree for some ****, then the next day had money for everything and everyone. yet people still lap that **** up.
The poor fella, perhaps we should start a gofundme for him
Not a SF supporter but. Is this person gonna get ripped to shreds too over money management. 😁
He should "Shop Around" and drive 20kmh slower
I don’t like her at all. I find her extremely self serving and ego centric. Never heard her talk about anything innovative to help the middle ground that use be FG support. Another A N another woke FG candidate, SD lite really.
That's for themselves..
Has FG hq made him retract the statement yet ☺️
He probably has a trampoline in the back garden and lives up the road from his mammy.
Another fuckwit FG'er with no concept of reality outside his front door.
My sister and brother in law paid 600k for a house. On the same estate there are unemployed people getting social housing in a worker shortage.
Goes to show FG are far right.
Gifted to them? Or, are they in a home owned by the state, asset retained by the state, and the people in it are contributing via some form of payment?
There's an estate less than 5km from where I live that I believe is 100% social. But (also what I believe) there's a strict criteria in place to qualify to getting one. Namely at least one of the people living there must be working. Apparently (and I'd agree somewhat) prevents the estate descending into a "ghetto".
Regardless, the state at least owns the homes on the estate, which are considered "assets".
Beats throwing money into a black hole of subsidising private landlords, vulture fund/investment firms or hoteliers.
There was a saying that one cut ones cloth according to one’s width. That is, live within one’s means. If one cannot afford to live where one works, then something is wrong. Review and move on. A house isn’t a given. It’s a reward for sensible decisions. You need ask yourself if you really need x amount of bedrooms (forget the WOKE housing people) You do NOT need a bedroom for each child. There’s nothing wrong with sharing. It builds character.
I thought there were laws in relation to opposite sex siblings sharing rooms.
What was that about being able to afford a home on an average income 🙄
You are deluded if you think the problem is people wanting extravagant things. We have working people who need government help to pay rent. Your comment is not relevant to mine.
Words escape me 🙄
Seems Simon Harris"s speeches are not just ignored closer to home but intriguing to see him jockeying for the top job, Helen gets a mention as to does Leo.
I often wonder must FG members occasionally consider .....
Is this really the best we can hope for in terms of a future leader's 🤔
In fairness you have to make allowances for a man for whom narcolepsy is a constant battle...
Whatever about is ability to sleep or otherwise, hard to fathom why he's allowed to speak to the international press, they must have either been in utter disbelief or in fits of giggles 😉
I agree. Poor on FF for this, and their solution is to tax workers more for it.
Not a fan, but then again no one in opposition will call it out, in fact they want to bring the pension age down further.
Is that why he got elected?
I hope this is satire.
That he wouldn't have the cop on to know that those really struggling would find his comments offensive is the maddening thing.
'Smart fella but no common sense' was a saying of my mother's. Applies here.
The replies are gas, seems even Leo realises he needs to spend some time in his constituency office 😉
You'd have to ask the folk who voted for him.
It's not cheap either in the other
Dundalk.
