With new technology and a complete from the start up reinvestigation it may be possible to discover who did this. It may be a new fact or something disgarded that opens this up. I would say, although they have stated that there is no 'significant' new evidence there is something that may have potential to solve this.
The cold case review is not expected to find the murderer of SDP.
Probably the best outcome possible, would only be the clear vindication of Ian Bailey.
I suspect the real killer is long gone, completely unknown, or more than likely dead at this stage.
I understand the French convicted and sentenced Bailey for the murder already, and for that, they need a boot up the hole...
I hope they don't go looking for statements again from the buffoon Maria Farrell... If she kept her beak out the first time, who knows, they might even have caught the murderer back then.
Part of me thinks this is just an exercise to appease the French... Didn't Macron say he wasn't happy with the Irish not solving the murder?? After all, the French managed it from across the water.
Article in the Journal, but it's more about how the cold case team works than this particular case:

Those birds have flown
i doubt there's any point as the investigation seems to have been badly handled from the start.
though obv for Sohpie's family, I would love if the guilty individual could be found
why are they suing that article is paywalled
cue a few more registrations for the north side of the country
I was cutting back trees recently and I got scratches/ small cuts on my arms. It reminded me of Bailey. They were leylandii type trees i cannot remember the exact name. My arms were sore i had to put some Bepantiseptic cream on and then continued with sleeves rolled up
Just thought i would mention it, I do not say it proves anything either way. Here is a photo taken an hour after I got scratches
PS I did not kill anyone
News announced a full reinvestigation of the case. It stated that no 'Major' new information was received.
More developments re this case.
A local TD, Michael Collins had raised it
'“What has followed in this case over 26 years is best explained like a rollercoaster, going around in circles but really getting nowhere,” he added.
“Genuinely the people of West Cork are tired of the posturing that is going on locally,” he said, without explaining his meaning.'
No still no big revelations it seems. The above piece was in the indo today - nothing new in the article though.
Any sign of the big revelations? 🤔
Ah jeez Glossy....don`t tell me you`ve hightailed it out of here yet again. Something must be about to happen.
Also what ever happened with the big revelations which were predicted, I was expecting an arrest or two and the whole case to be solved by now. 😉
Still no word on the outcome of the case review sent to Mr Harris. Surely the contents have been considered by now.
My guess is that it is just a coincidence that World Book Day (3rd March) happened to be shortly after these spectacular revelations were alluded to and were supposedly going to be made public.
No conflict of interest at all with the authors of books on the subject..., nothing to see here..., 🙄
Just out of curiosity, I guess there is nothing new in this case? Nothing from Drew Harris?
Both articles are behind paywalls. What are the odds the stories become less sensational once you get past the headline and leading paragraph and get into the nitty gritty. None of this belongs in this thread.
"So anyone who thinks rural gardai....etc". I`d say there isn`t a single contributor to this thread who thinks that there are no bad eggs within the Gardaí. Don`t know why you bothered with the edit.
Spot on.
We could also mention the donegal case with the McBrearty family who were terrorised by gardai for years trying to stitch them up for murder when it was a hit and run, one of their own, although they still can't prove it. At least they got hefty compensation, but that's because they could afford a PI to prove it.
For the few here that still think the gardai are above reproach and would never meddle in anything including murder, here's a couple of new investigations
1 - Drug running. SIX former gardai have suddenly got selective amnesia on one particular situation. One would be unfortunate, two a travesty, but all SIX suddenly have a condition that affects less than one in 200,000 people. (General amnesia where you forget a large time frame is higher at 4 / 100,000)
https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/six-former-gardai-cannot-remember-drug-operations-at-centre-of-explosive-lawsuit-allegations-41366648.html
2 - Murder in Donegal in 2003. Gardai now seen to have been involved in death of a man and the murder of someone they used to cover up the death
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/detectives-to-probe-garda-involvement-in-2005-shaun-duffy-murder-case-zs6kjjdgs
So anyone who thinks some rural gardai will not go to the ends of the earth to stitch someone up or even murder someone themselves as alleged in the Donegal case, should read above and the dozens of other cases of garda abuse.
But just as an aside - the vast majority of gardai are decent hardworking people who follow procedure properly. But there are too many bad apples and it will take a few more years to weed most of the bad apples out.
Possibly yes. Could also apply to withholding information that could have furthered the investigation, not necessarily being an accessory in the murder itself.
It is quite a significant development if true. You would basically have a witness that knows who the killer is and is afraid of being prosecuted as an accessory. I don`t see what else it can all mean.
No idea. Speculation at the moment. He doesn't mention a source and is a disgraced solicitor but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have connections in the legal world.
I'm more interested in wether the DPP can actually grant immunity in return for a testimony, it's certainly not common practice here.
What`s it all about then Glossy?
I'd personally much prefer investigations into the Dublin/Monaghan bombings, Miami showband massacre etc.
Although we barely bothered even investigating them at the time, the investigation into the Dublin Monaghan bombings was stopped by the FG government of the time after just two months so what chance do we have now, also our current Garda commissioner used to work for RUC special branch and MI5, the ones believed to be responsible for the bombings.
I don't consider him a reputable source of information, but posting latest tweet anyway.
So it's just a couple of idiots speaking about the "big revelation"? - in order to make money for themselves. Being or wanting to be in the centre of attention, writing a book, appearing on TV, the usual......
In reality, there is nothing new, I take it, no evidence to tie the murderer to the murder site murder weapon and victim.
Anything new would have to come from Drew Harris and him only, I'd say.
We're still waiting for Fosters big revelation and promised break in the case so I'm not holding my breath.
s that Elio Magliocco (Malocco) the former solicitor and convicted fraudster?
yes that's him. As an expert on criminal profiling it will be interesting to see what he thinks of Bailey the convicted woman beater.
