I thought it was a bit clickbaity. Nowhere does it say why there are such apparent shortcomings, which is that the UK is heavily nuclear armed and that it's trident missile submarine fleet and other nuclear assets could not be taken out so easily. The doctrine that has lead to such a lack of conventional WW2 scale defence capabilities is that they would be redundant as the next one is assumed to be WW3, not WW2. No nuclear armed country is going to attack the home territory of another with conventional weapons and expect a like response.
Putin would not have attacked a nuclear armed Ukraine any more than he would France or the UK, or them attack Russia itself.
City officials in Mariupol say Russian occupiers have begun exhuming bodies buried in the yards of residential blocks.
Mariupol City Council said on Telegram that the occupiers are not allowing residents to bury people allegedly killed by the occupiers.
Each yard now has a supervisor to enforce this rule.
There are 13 mobile crematoria in Mariupol, according to Ukraine, and the city authorities suspect the Russians are trying to cover up war crimes.
The BBC is unable to verify the claims, but what we do know is that seven weeks of relentless Russian shelling, hunger and freezing temperatures have left thousands of Mariupol residents dead.
--Mariupol is like Auschwitz to these invaders
If this is true. Russia has just realized it can't win this war while western weapons flow into Ukraine.
With the way the Russian army has fallen to bits this month, it's only a wonder that North Korea and 'Kim big one' or whatever his name is has not started fantasising about extending its borders in the far east to inside Russia.
That's good of them.
I did see an odd comment from Ukraine a few days ago that all the medical supplies were great but they didn't have the staff or resources needed to divy it all up and distribute it.
Probably because his own army is the biggest shambolic rust-bucket force in the world. It wouldn't even be remotely on Ukraine's level of capability.
Definite signs that Russia is under huge pressure and knows full well that the war is starting to go against them.
The US is totally within its rights to send arms to Ukraine btw and is not breaking any law or convention. Many would say indeed that there is a moral imperative on them to help out a friend and ally that is coming under brutal attack.
Russia may well be feeling large pressure in this war, but I doubt this proclamation against the U.S. is a direct result of that as they've been making similar threats against other nations since the earliest days of the war. I think it's just another bit of 'strength' they're trying to show for domestic consumption. They know full well the U.S. will take that 'note', ball it up and toss it over their shoulder.
Is not all / part of the Black Sea not part of Ukraine The ship seemed to be hit just South Odessa - circa 80 km
A note?
Russia are running out of paper, must be serious if they sent a note.
Probably asked for it back.
Seems the commander of the Moskva was killed in the missile attack - but this comes from Ukrainian sources of course, not from the Russian propagandists, who are incapable of admitting any setbacks.
Ukraine is provoking a war with Russia by shooting at the invaders. Or something.
A resourceful Kharkiv resident abseils to his apartment, as you do...
Mental and all as Putin is he surely at this stage must doubt that even his nukes would work if he ever tried to deploy them. And he can be under no illusion that any aggression against NATO would end in swift destruction. So you really have to wonder where he goes from here. Any potential off ramp is long in the rear view mirror and nothing short of complete unconditional withdrawal will be accepted by Ukraine
up to 5 million refugees, up to 10 million displaced, and looks like their gdp will half
There might be a little more to that than meets the eye. If Russia declares "war", then there will be mobilisation of citizens into the army - something they cannot currently do.
Their line to the US and Ukraine today seems to be "How dare you interpret our special operation in Ukraine as a negative and hostile act? The cheek of you. Keep this up and there will be dire consequences."
Disgusting rhetoric as always by the Kremlin but the consequences for Ukraine will be nasty again. Amazing how many here don't seem to care about that as long as Russia gets a bloody nose.
Kiev was just getting a breather from this hell and now the missiles are back again
If they do declare war, then they can officially mobilise reservists. But that's going to take a long time, Russia's mobilisation system isn't the most effective. And the reservists aren't as good as the professional soldiers, who haven't exactly shown a lot of competence either.
This is nothing new.
The US never declared war on Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan.
The last time the US went to war was WW2.
Whether Russia wants to admit it yet or not, they are all in. This will be a multi year war or ambush, guerilla tactics etc. Hesitating for fear that Russia might up the ante is pointless, it can't get much worse anyway. Ukraine should not be restrained in their defense. I've noted before the advantage that Russia has, where they can attack with fear of being attacked. Ukrainians should continue to try to harrass Russia in its own territory if they can, it has a great psychological effect and makes logistical planning much more difficult.
Ah the pool divil
I think they were all in , in Feb.. dedicating 75 percent of your permanent military to driving over the Ukraine border says pretty much all in.
Man. Things will really escalate if Russia declares war on Ukraine.
Have Ukraine thought it through what it might look like if they were at war with Russia?
And your point? Ukraine shouldn't fight back? The Russians are throwing pretty much every available conventional resource at them right now. If they are "only" carrying out limited war crimes should you back off from them? That would be a terrible vista. 'Let us keep abusing you or else!'
Nobody is rejoicing in Russia getting a 'bloody nose' for the sake of it - we do celebrate when an army bent on war crimes gets battered.
Declare war ??????
Jehovah, Jehovah, Jehovah
(Don't misunderstand me, that's a reference)
Russian troops in #Mariupol are carrying out mass purges of alive and dead residents, #Ukraine's Ombudsman for Human Rights said.
Locals say Russian troops are exhuming the bodies previously buried in the yards of the apartment buildings. 🇷🇺 banned the burial of killed people.
They can also use none conventional weapons.
They've thrown the best of everything they have at Ukraine and apart from their remote shelling it's been pure shít. It's getting scarcer and scarcer and they can't replace it. So no matter how many reservists they can manage to muster they'll be little more than Canon fodder. Russia will have started this war with 140 million population and end up with a whole lot less of their young breeding age population. They'll be marrying off 20yr young ones to lads in cardigans trying to stop population free falling.
