Agreed, Which end of the country did you get them quotes if you don't mind me asking.
Was it a case of rubbing down and respraying or was it more detailed like cutting and welding.
This is what a €6000 respray looks like! I reassembled all the chromework, panels and bumpers myself. Everything was removed, glass, everything! I stripped out the interior beforehand so it wouldn't get damaged. There was some welding done on the drivers side sill as well. A LOT of hours went into this! €3500 wouldn't have been enough for a proper job
I've fitted new wheels since this pic was taken.
Looks very good, do you mind me asking who did the work? PM me if you like, thanks.
Likewise, looks great, would be interested in knowing who did the work.Cheers
Same here, would like to know who did it. Thanks.
It sure turned out to be a fine job, w124man.And so it should @ €6'000. Just imagine what it would have cost had the body shop done all the pre paint stripping, and afterwards re assembly. That would have put another few grand on top. But for sure, now its a lovely looking car, well done!!. ( BTW what mileage is on it? And I presume that its an automatic? Which trans? )
Its a 300SE 6 cylinder auto with 80,000 ish on the clock. She came second in class at the Mercedes Benz Clubs Concours competition last year and featured in an article in the club Gazette
That's a beautiful motor. It's a credit to you with all the work and money you put into it.
80'000 Miles on a SE 300 6 cyl engine, petrol, I presume? Baby...☺️ One of the in-laws had a 1997 w210 MB 300 Diesel which he used in his taxi business. When he bought it, there was 300'000 miles on it ( and he reckoned that it had been clocked ) so he drove it for another 300'000 miles before selling it on. Last he heard, its new owner was well on the way to putting another 100'000 on it. And it was still starting and driving like clockwork. I must ask him if he has heard anything about how it fared out eventually. I googled the Mercedes Benz Clubs Concourse 2021, there was some eyewatering samples of the "Art of Mercedes Benz" there. You did very well to get a 2nd place!! Well done. Any interior pics available?
There are basically three sections to the MB Concours competition, Club Class, Classic Class and Masterclass. I was in the Club class with the 300SE. I entered my 250TD into the Classic Class in 2019 but the 190 beside my car won
They check everything. I mean everything. I'm a judge now in the Club class so I know what they (we) look for. The car has to be as close to how it left the dealer when new. The Masterclass brings detail to a new level altogether. Its not for everyone though
Interior pics of the 300SE
I took the interior out to clean it
I got a full respray for 500 and it was a great job too. Mind you it was a few years back and not Dublin.
How can this be done for 450 stg?
I did have a golf 80% sprayed like this for 1500euros to what looks like a good standard. Time will tell I suppose.
So did I I had my car 80% resprayed for 1500, the car is only worth that but bought new so will keep forever as it's a nice machine(looks really well now)
I think the flat golf paint is weak. The Metallics don't seem to suffer from peel so I'm guessing the laquer sticks better Tornado or flash red is lovely though
Cool, put up a pic if you have one.
I'll be having a 20 year old Jaguar X type done after Easter, looking forward to seeing results.
Will do, incidentally vw don't even sell tornado or flash now no flat reds at all available and kings red doesn't look all that good.
A real shame..
Good luck with your respray ignore the naysayers.
Be interested to see how you get on and maybe the details of the lad doing the work.
Did this go ahead, how did it go?
