The Russian army has retreated from Kyiv so - i suspect its ok tbh - and her going sends a massive message - its a good move -
I have always been very pro European Union - but i am VERY impressed with them during this war - fair play to them
You can't really camouflage artillery or SAM positions though; or at least not when they're in use.
Artillery generally has to be established on flat land with clear lines of sight to calculate trajectories and adjust fire. The exception would be small man-portable mortars which for obvious reasons aren't particularly accurate or powerful especially at distance.
SAM systems also often need clear lines of sight and wide open spaces due to how their radar systems work; and also because you can't cover a missile launcher with a tarp and still have it be ready to fire when needed. Also if they're communicating wirelessly with other equipment or command centres again clear lines of sight is often beneficial and in some cases required.
But it probably is a good point in that modern conventional military doctrine hasn't caught up to a battlefield where the enemy has drones and satellite surveillance en masse. Certainly not in terms of Soviet or Russian doctrine at least; based on what we're seeing.
I'd be sticking them both on a plane, giving them a parachute each and dropping them over the Donbas. They can fully investigate the propaganda they claim the ukranians are peddling and have a good old natter with their liberating Russian buddies while they're at it. That's if their parachutes worked.
The Polish, Czech and Slovenian PMs visited Kyiv two or three weeks ago when there was actually Russian troops on it's doorstep and farvmore dangerous than it is now without incident.
Why not comfortable? ..
Not entirely sure I'm comfortable with Von Der Leyens trip to Kyiv tomorrow. Hopefully the day goes well. Very brave of her and sends a huge message.
Agreed 100 %, except it will be rebuilt with Russian money.....
Well it's not really true if an oil/coal ban is enacted quickly: because even the likes of China has been avoiding signing new contracts with Russian companies.
It also takes time to negotiate contracts, establish supply chains, agree financing and all the other things that go into supplying things like coal. So a coal ban would absolutely have hurt Russia in the short term.
However the fact it looks like Europe are giving them until August for coal exports is very disappointing; since it gives Russia time to work on those new contracts and supply chains. We can only hope that the rest of the world will be so worried about Russia's future that they only sign contracts at drastic discounts.
Screw Western money - use the billions secreted away by Russia/ns in the Western world (the place they seem to hate but love when it suits)
Just like Germany had to pay
When all this is done with, and the Russians are gone home, I hope it's rebuilt. A big shining metropolis, built with western money. A Big towering **** you, pointed right at the Russians, bristling with western military defences.
first Blue Crocodile 255 captured by ukrainian forces
Bringing out the big guns....
GM 228, Very interesting article on Nazism, not only in Ukraine, but the wider world too.
It is very heartening indeed to slowly realise that there must be a lot going on behind the scenes in all areas of the theatre of this war, much that may never be fully acknowledged.
Putin et al are stupid beyond belief. It seems that their abject lack of any decency or humanity, or even recognition of such concepts, has driven many third parties to finally assist in a meaningful way.
We can congratulate ourselves for being so far above those base entities, tethered to a lower level of consciousness.
To those who think any of us could descend to such inhuman acts during war - no, simply no.
One wonders if received "heavenly communications" (of decades ago) about the fall of communism, pertain to events in the near future and not the past?
I often wondered why SHE would describe that system as wholesale evil, it seems obvious now and I'm not even religious.
For this and this alone
Russia needs to bombed back to the stone age. There is no both sides. There are no excuses anymore. This is what they have done and what they will continue to do unless they are stopped.
Another Russian soldier phoning home.
Has Putin gained anything in his war effort by causing 1 trillion euro worth of damage to parts of Ukraine he has no possibilty of controlling, would his strategy not have been better served to push into the Donbas with all his resources from Crimea and Russia proper only targetting actual military installations elsewhere in the country, he has made a meal of liberating the crimean corridor and whatever tracts of land north of the Donbas he still holds, school boy errors
Not sure if the basketball video was posted, here. So just in case..
Does come across fairly patronising alright.
100% most likely scenario. Only question is at what point will Ukraine stop? And Vladimir knows this too...so he has to show some kind of victory to keep in power, and he will take Mariupol and Donbass at all costs, but even he knows he cannot hold it permanently.
More help from the Baltics - Fair play
Slava Ukraini
Just the first tweet is enough to make me groan and then it gets worse as you go on
There has been a big dump of personal information about all the soldiers who took part in the raping, looting and murder in Bucha and other places. Their names and addresses, military Nr, and unit they were in. Its in an earlier post on here. So I'm guessing that Anonymous might have had=nd on that. You have to understand that the internet is a battle ground too, it has its attackers and defenders. Most firms employ full time IT experts solely for the purpose of protecting their information and systems.
Interesting thread on the topic of nationalism and neo-Nazism in Ukraine:-
I adore that melody and the lyrics and the way Khlyvnyuk sang it impromptu, a capella. One of the best Yubito vids for me so far this year (no disrespect to the Pink Floyd grandads).
Meanwhile, Kadyrov’s recruitment PR have been busy, busy bees. (That’s the same Kadyrov whose forces going by accounts like to rape and kill children.)

And even if it does, does anyone think that it's gonna stay in Russian control?
When Putin withdraws, and he will, it will go back to Ukrainian control.
And who says Ukraine won't grab it back?
We're into a new Cold War with the Russia regime anyway and a match for anything seen in the early 1960s or early 1980s : it's not far off the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 in terms of intensity and with no hope of a speedy de-escalation.
Man of the people.
I shudder what’s going to be voted into power in the next election.
Just put it on Putins tab, along side the reconstruction costs....
