Fair Deal Scheme application

Hi there

I have researched the Fair Deal Scheme for my elderly parent online. There is a lot of information out there, and also quite a few people looking for money for advice.

I have one simple question that remains unanswered for me... If I apply for Fair Deal and the government pays some money towards my parent's nursing home, do we owe money back to the government?

It seems quite confusing (and please note, we are not applying for the 'Nursing Home Loan', just the 'Nursing Homes Support Scheme'.)

Yes, we understand this is what we will pay directly, but the remainder is paid by the state thru the fair deal scheme.

My question is do we need to pay back the state for the portion that they pay?
