They still aren’t calculating the discount on these right for Irish customers.
They give you 20% off the ex vat price. And then calculate the import duties based on the full price!
That's how it works when importing from a third party country.
And duty is applied too on items over €150, so that £110 after discount and UK vat taken away smart TV will cost about €210
We have no duty applied to shopping from the UK though right? Only VAT.
And how can they charge VAT against anything other than what you are actually paying?
No. It depends on the product whether duty is payable.
example : iphone 12 mini is £393.58 to UK address, but when added to basket and "adjusted" the price for irish customers is £442.45
Items:GBP 409.97
Postage & Packing:GBP 0.00
Import Fees Deposit:GBP 114.47
Total:GBP 524.44
Promotion Applied:-GBP 81.99
Order Total:GBP 442.45
Items:GBP 491.97
Total:GBP 491.97
Promotion Applied:-GBP 98.39
Order Total:GBP 393.58
I got refunded £51 stg today because of that error on a phone I bought almost 6 months ago
automatically refunded or did you have to ask for it?
Automatically refunded. Not the first time it's happened months after a purchase.
This happened to me also, received £61.09 recently for a projector which I had bought months back. I didn't even realise I had been overcharged and didn't seek the refund. In fairness to Amazon, they are sorting out any VAT issues.
Am I correct in assuming there is no way to use the search bar to find deals?
from the page linked above i search for 'dehumidifier' in the search box aptly named 'Amazon Warehouse Events' up top but all the results i get are not eligible for the discount
You might be using amazon's search suggestions, which are not limited to the extra20% deals. Type your search term fully manually and ensure the search box remains narrowed down to "Amazon Warehouse Events" on the results page.

This allows you to search the deals. It's not always clear what are the results in the 20% off sale and stuff found in other departments though. In general, sponsored results come first, which are not in the sale. Then the sale results (if any), then all departments underneath.
thanks but no change from the simple search in the warehouse deals section I mentioned above i.e. some products listed have the discount, others dont. you have to click inside each and look for the 'Save 20% at checkout' in green text under the price.
Everything below "More Results" is not part of the event, everything above is.
Not sure what you mean. If you ensure the search was limited to the event, you will get 34, at least as of now, results for 'dehumidifier' and all of them are 20% off.
Just tried it. Seems to change the search results from Amazon Warehouse Events to Amazon Warehouse.
After you've clicked on the banner for the 20% you can then click through the categories and it should keep you in the 20% off stock but the sponsored ads are not 20% off.
It won't change if you search using the magnifying glass icon on the right from the search field instead of hitting the enter/return key on your keyboard, which typically selects one of amazon's search suggestions for the whole warehouse. The way that search field is designed is idiotic, but once you figure it out, it does work for the discounted items.
so quite a good chance if i go ahead with the purchase i'll get a refund eventually?
I suppose so but maybe someone with a better grasp of it can advise. If it helps this is what I was charged. The amount of £51.56 was refunded.
