A raft of street closures coming for the summer outdoor dining period (Apr to Oct)
This is a strange one as I thought the gate was closed at this location (marked below)
Is it normal for it to be just left open?
The gate in question
It's open in the daytime for hospital staff.
Merlin is a serious rat-run. Gate was closed at some point, did not realise it re-opened
There seems to be an issue with the Lough Atalia Road traffic lights outbound from railway bridge. Light does not go green for a long time, whilst it does for the opposite direction. Queue of artics and cars builds up. Noticed it three times in the past week. Any info?
Usually open in the morning and afternoon for staff.
Used a rat run at these times to avoid part of the Dublin Rd. Also has one of those pointless speed signs. 95% of traffic breaking the limit.
I spotted those and knew one of the "cycling" types would have a go about it. That idiot cosain never fails :-)
In fairness, great publicity stunt by the car dealers.
Great publicity? So telling the world that you're a cheapskate business that grabs public space for your private commercial benefit is seen as some kind of positive?
Nice try on the othering of Cosain there. He's not on his own.

More on the 30k motion
The Council Engineers and Executive are raging at this. Fair play to Councillor Owen Hanley for sticking with and putting up with there delay tactics on this over the years.
The wanna be Night Mayor making sure that traffic moves slowly at night time.
Time limits or parking fees + strict ticketing 7 days a week
Or a bike lane
Less noise from said traffic as well for City Centre residents - win win for everybody.
Clever photo - that looks to me like Salthill Garda Station in the background of one of the photos of that Advertorial un-regged car?
"the othering of Cosain" 😅😅😅 In fairness, he's well able to "other" himself. A complete and utter eejit
Hard to see what further alienating the Executive will achieve if this is true.
While he rubs people up the wrong way, he's rarely wrong in the issues (law breaking) that he highlights
I don't know how you would even go about ticketing a car without a reg plate. By rights they have no business being on the road and should be lifted and impounded.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) would be visible around the windscreen.
I think that's what annoys people. They don't like the reflection they see in the mirror he holds up.
I feel for the guy. Don't know him but he takes an awful lot of flak for pointing out legitimate issues. I'm pretty sure he only started all this when his kids started school and he encountered the difficulties in walking there and back. But once again we see lots of people prioritizing their own convenience over others safety. He's gotten criminal levels of abuse over the years.
I'm also pretty sure he's a walker not a cyclist. Clues in the name and all. Some people gotta imagine those Boogeymen everywhere though.
And they have the brazen necks to actually advertise what they're doing;
JFC.
Won't somebody please think of the poor "Executive"!! Ha ha
If they are not able to do the job they can always retire early.
Plenty of Transportation Engineers coming up who can do the job.
He's a cyclist alright and while he is often correct in what he highlights, he has no understanding or appreciation of context or anyone else's point of view. That's not the annoying bit though. He's a complete hypocrite. For example (and there are loads), two or three weeks ago I encountered him on the WDR heading West towards Dunnes. He sailed through the roundabout, all over it, not a hand signal even considered, but then how could he? He had a child's scooter held in his right hand and was cycling one handed. Same way through the next roundabout and then straight through the Dunnes carpark and off he goes up the one-ways, through the pedestrian ways; not a care in the world. He'd have a hissy fit if he caught someone on one of his cameras doing the same. He's the prototypical example of why drivers should have dashcams.
It's important not to engage with him, as the poor Guards who he has plagued well know.
Ah right. That kind of behavior wrecks my head. I've massive issues with driving standards in this country but if I'm going to complain about it then surely I have to try my best to live up to the level I expect. I'm the kind of eejit sitting on my bike waiting for empty pedestrian lights to change at 2am while loads of drivers go straight through giving me weird looks.
It's mad what some people think is okay to do on a bike just because they can. Funniest was the middle aged guy cycling along with his full mug of tea one morning. Regular ceramic mug so no lid or anything. You might be less likely to seriously injure someone on a bike but it's the same mentality as the person driving around on their phone. To hell with others, I want my tea/Facebook/whatever
U OK, hun?
Were many people killed or injured in this atrocity?
The best ever sight used to be Polly (can't remember what his real name was). He used to play piano in the Great Southern. Used to drive around at about 5kph on his moped, wearing his tuxedo if he was going to work, with an umbrella up if it was raining. A unique sight :-)
Indeed, RIP.
And unlike many two-wheeler users, he stopped at red lights.
Jaysus there's a blast from the past, I remember him well
Didn't so much worry about driving on footpaths and stuff though
