Ukrainians clobbered the Russians at Kherson airfield
The US are playing a blinder in this war. It wont be reported on in any detail but somewhere in the bowels of the Pentagon there is a phalanx of military personnel who have their satellites trained on Ukraine and are watching the battlefield 24/7 and then relaying the intel of Russian positions back to the Ukrainian generals . The intel delivered from the US is the main reason why the Ukrainians are having such success against Russian forces. Without that live intel that the US are feeding Ukraine Putins plan of toppling the country within a few days would likely have worked.
The tides could soon be turning.
"Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is losing favor with his inner circle of oligarchs, creating conditions for a rebellion and his overthrow, the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has said"
Putin doesn't want a deal and has no intentions of agreing to one. He want's Ukraine as part of Russia and control over their food resources and fertiliser output, not to mention chopping all their trees down to pay for this adventure. Only military defeat will get Russia out.
Whilst i will never be conscripted to go and fight in Ukraine, I feel the overwhelming urge to vent via my keyboard that the appropriate response to this proposed "peace plan" is to tell Putin to print it out, roll it up very very tightly, and shove it up his hole.
The ****ing balls of this guy.
I accept that people are dying in Ukraine at present, and life overall is generally shyte, but the war is not going as badly for them as most expected. One would think that the longer it goes on, the worse it is going for Putin. In addition, giving in to this totalitarian asshole will only enable him in the future.
So, in conclusion, they should tell him to go and fuckski offski.
A lot of resignations at RT now.
The sheer amount of posters who have regurgitated Putin's propaganda on this forum for 10 years, they must be so embarrassed now.
I presume that this is a step in the EU weaning itself off Russia in terms of energy supplies. Goal #1 of the EU Energy Union when it was created was energy security.
The highlight was Lavror insisting on "Freedom of Speech".
😏
God the details of the proposed peace deal with Russia are horrendous.
It's the equivalent of Hitler invading Poland, screwing up and getting bogged down, then trying to get a peace deal that will make it easier for him to invade the country properly in future.
Edit: already posted
Putin is some gallbag.
From Sky News:
The Russian president has been speaking after President Zelenskyy addressed US Congress.
Mr Putin hasn't mentioned President Zelenskyy's speech where he repeated his calls for the US to impose a no-fly zone, but has been hitting out at the West for having "geopolitical aims which don't include a strong independent Russia".
He added that the West is trying to "cancel" Russia.
Mr Putin also said the West would not succeed in what he called its attempt to achieve global dominance and dismember Russia.
If the West thinks that Russia will step back, it does not understand Russia, the Russian president said.
Earlier in the speech Mr Putin said Russia doesn't want to occupy Ukraine.
He added Russia didn't have any other option but to carry out what he has called a special military operation.
Mr Putin went on to claim he had "no other option for the security of Russia" than to carry out what he has called the "special military operation" in Ukraine.
He added that Ukraine had planned aggression against Russia that would be been backed by Western powers.
He also said Western powers want to create an "anti-Russia" and do not care about the Ukrainian people.
Mr Putin added that the West is pushing Ukraine to "continue the bloodshed" by supplying it with arms.
Putting his tv production company skills to good use!
Maybe they are going to take the Boris Johnson approach to international agreements.
Get the agreement signed and then ignore it....
Ukraine should sort of agree to not joining NATO, perhaps specify a time frame like 15 years, and the minute Putin is dead, renege on it in the same way Russia reneged on the nuclear disarmament deal. Henceforth, Ukraine is under no obligation to honour any deal made with Russia.
The Swiss military model is a good idea DaCor. Neutral, tiny very well trained army, but don't feck with us.
South Ossetia is the breakaway state in Georgia that triggered the 2008 war - it's about the size of County Clare and has a population of less than 60,000 including the occupying Russian forces. If the Russian forces withdraw then there's nothing to prevent Georgia from retaking it.
I'm intrigued on requiring that Ukraine limit the size of their military.
I see no upside for them in agreeing to that point. In fact quite the opposite when presented with an openly hostile neighbour.
The should counter with a requirement that Putin has to be sackedand then presented in shackles in The Hague.
.
Seems I am behind the times. It was a previous one I was thinking of:
"The Chinese head of Interpol has disappeared — in China
PARIS — French authorities launched an investigation into the disappearance of Interpol President Meng Hongwei, whose wife informed French police that he went missing after returning to his native China last week, local media reported Friday.
Meng, a former government minister, was last seen Sept. 29, his wife said, according to unnamed French police officials cited by France’s Europe 1 radio station." https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/the-chinese-head-of-interpol-has-disappeared--in-china/2018/10/05/4e4878c2-c88f-11e8-9c0f-2ffaf6d422aa_story.html
The current UAE guy has been accused of torture, so as inappropriate a head of Interpol as a Chinese national. What next, one of Putin's stooges?
The Ukraine negotiating team have absolutely no control over imposed sanctions - apart from requesting those who applied them to withdraw them. So US , Germany , etc , need to be involved. Sanctions were not put on because of Ukr being invaded only . They had more to do with weakening Putin re his expansion policy and to stop him in his tracks
Honestly, that might be a net win for the Russian people. Less obesity, less social media, less awful programmes. These are luxury goods with substitutes. Oil, gas, food...harder to substitute.
Given the losses so far you could think that the Russians could be moving to a more serious view of peace talks but you would have to wonder if they are looking for time for the ground to firm up.
Was it Napoleon who said that Marshall Mud was the best Russian military leader.
It would be some retreat for them to leave it as is, in a war that Putin sees as essential to the long term survival of Russia.
I saw the source, I still don't like that question. I think the only insight the graph gives is in the comparisons (EU vs own national political system comparison on each line, and also of one country to another for both % vertically), the absolute percentages without doing comparisons are meaningless. I suppose that is why they presented results this way (so maybe I was a bit unfair about the question).
On second point touché, but again that is issue with that question and just looking at raw % out of it.
When I think "broken" political systems and answer a straight yes or no to such a question...I think of somewhere like Russia as a "definitely broken" reference point ironically enough but someone else may have a very different view (we don't measure up well to a neighbour in the EU = "Broken", we've gotten worse over my lifetime = "Broken"). I think generally political attitudes to inward migration in the centre of politics in most countries have come a very long way from 2016 migrant crisis.
APT
The exodus will only continue - Russia is toxic - companies leaving voluntarily is a good thing - and the above is apt
Ukraine's position for the talks.
The source is the European Council on Foreign Relations, if you have problems with the polling get onto them 😂
I'm going to surmise that the lack of gates to be battered down for entrance are part of what people think is broken 🤔
The Russians famously annexed a chunk of Geargia that had an important gas pipeline running through it so that part of the pipeline now ran through Russia so they could cut it at will. The EU have been so stupid with regards to tollerating Russia.
Come on Ukraine. Ease up a bit. Give the Ruskies a fighting chance...
