Apparently the TV news is still pumping out the crazy propaganda (Ukrainians are Nazis, Russian troops are liberators etc) but one wonders just how long they can spin this nonsense before the Russian public begin to realise something is seriously amiss - a full scale war that goes on for months right on Russia's doorstep is going to present all sorts of problems for them.
Irish Red Cross rep confirms refugees will have to use their social welfare to pay for bills in the house they are housed in.
I read they did something similar in New York and Boston in the early 80's when Bobby Sands died, refusing to dock British ships at the time.
Irish Red Cross rep confirms that he would prefer if house has more than one bathroom.
Good one, tell us the difference!
The auld ones are already used to buying the company line without questioning it too much. Young Russians, who are tech savvy enough to bypass blocked sites and media, I would hope are less trusting.
Here meant Ireland, among Irish politicians and on national media. I didn't mean boards.
Good news?

Putin can always do a tactical media strike to distract the population, say release a new topless picture of himself horse riding or shooting, something macho like that. The drones lap that stuff up.
Can you ask? To clarify... shouldn't take you long if you contact your handler.
We have zero clue if that ten Russian soldiers dead for every Ukrainian soldier claim is within sniffing distance of true. As is the notion of tactically outclassed. Pretty much all we're seeing is Ukrainian side of this. You want it to be true, I want it to be true, but that's where it ends at the moment. And let's say it is true. As you've pointed out before, though simplistically; "all the Russians have are numbers". Numbers count in a war of attrition. Add to that Russian military thinking and even their home psyche is way more accepting of casualities(on both sides) than modern Western miltary and societal thinking.
Major roads are how they move their supply lines through the country when beyond the Russian state railways. Gaining and holding them is objective number one. And they have and do. For all the Ukrainian successes the Russian 40km logistics line is intact. That should tell us all we need to know about the effective medium and long range capabilities of the Ukrainian infantry and air force. The "Ghost of Kyiv" if he existed would have been far better served bombing the hell out of that and the Ukrainain military would have told him to.
Those major roads drive suppies of men and materiel to the cities the Russians want to take. Encircle them, cut them off from supplies and hammer them with artillery(which Ukraine is lacking in). Then send in their professional soldiers and go street by street, backed up with tanks. The Russian gloves are completely off, if they were ever on. They have nothing to lose now as far as western optics are concerned. IMHO unless something is hammered out in talks elsewhere, or something happens in the Kremlin involving cyanide, Kyiv will almost certainly fall. It's just a matter of time. And the Russians know it and why they're so far not budging on 'demands' and I suspect so do the Ukrainians. putin needs to take Kyiv if he took nothing else.
Burn...
But yet Russian forces are on social media and dating apps while in Ukraine ,and they have Russian and Chinese media embedded with them
Russia could strike Ireland with a cruise missile from as far away as the Baltic Sea if it wanted. They could take out our power, damage critical infrastructure and cause absolute chaos without ever coming within a 1000 miles of this country. We are not really neutral. Staying out of it in Russian terms means taking a stance similar to China or India which is absolutely unacceptable to the mindset of the vast majority in this country I would think.
Good to know, have you ever expressed your opinions to said veterans about their walk in the park in Iraq and Afghanistan?
We're thinking along Western lines. That's not how Russian military tactics work and haven't even back in WW2. They send in the mass of their green troops and conscripts first. To soften up and wear down the enemy and gauge their weaknesses. Then they send in the professionals. Cannon fodder is 'cheap', professionals aren't. Fine if like Russia you care much less about casualities and have control of home media. They did similar in Afghanistan and Georgia.
Then ask people here would they agree with sending our young men to fight in a European War and you'll get a different answer.
Recent polls show support for neutrality is very high here, so I don't know what you're basing your belief on.
Not neccessarily. Remember they were going by past experiences, Georgia /Crimea and to a certain extent Syria. Unfortunately for them, Ukraine turned out to be a much harder nut to crack, and its still ongoing, and if anything getting much more difficult.
I don't think I can answer any of this 😂 it's such a tangled mess and as I said earlier on in the conflict, there's a chance this could stop being just Russia Vs Ukraine and turn into a 36 side affair like Syria ended up. That conflict was at the very beginning, Assad Vs a section of his people. It quickly turned into a free for all with dozens of factions, sides & nations involved. Now we have head-chopping Chechens, possibly Belarussian troops, western volunteers and Middle Easterners all converging on Ukraine, it's going to be a clusterf*ck. Oh and I suspect Iran will send fighters for Russia.
You forgot the key, a complete lack of enforcement and willingness to act. The Russian embassy is hilariously over-sized, as is usual with Russia they don't really try to hide what they do, and in Ireland there's even less need to. The fact the Israeli embassy is still running like nothing happened shows we're a laughing stock for that stuff.
Back in Jan/Feb, some on here raised questions about the Russian Army's ability to move tanks across Ukraine over non-frozen ground. It would seem like Putin's willingness to delay his invasion by a few weeks at the behest of Chinese is going to cost him, definitely tens of millions of dollars worth of equipment and strategically, possibly the entire campaign. Xi Jinping must laugh himself to sleep every night how he's played Putin.
Now fúck right off. That can only be disseminated as a propaganda statement. Who said anyone cared about being paid, there was never any mention.
It's the good people of Ireland giving what they can while your Komrades occupying Ukraine are slaughtering their husbands and sons. And don't bother with the 'me good Irish boy, not son of mother Russia' reply. Your mask as completely slipped. Sickening.
I don't know if China is turning on Russia, here's a Chinese registered plane flying from Moscow to Brussels over Belarus, so is this Russia's way around the ban?
Yeah, I am not sure I am buying that logic at all to be honest. I am pretty sure the infamous "little green men" in 2014 were not random grunts. They have lost a couple of very high ranking generals, including one from the VDV. It doesn't seem to me like these are cannon fodder. Russia is not fighting the same type of war as the one in WW2.
Going so well, that they're having to pay Arabs to come and help them LOL
As if! You think we can hide behind Mammy's skirt and Russia won't notice us? Those naval exercises a few weeks ago were staged off our side of the world for good reason. We're currently on the UN Security Council, not members of NATO and the soft flank of Europe.
One word. Spacex.
And how does this cruise missile magically appear over Ireland? Would it have to pass through other Nato countries first. They'll hardly be glad to see it.
I come in here every day, sifting through all the boll1x, purely in the hope of finding posts like this
