Youths Causing Hassle in Eyre Square

There is a large gang of teenagers congregating in the square, they shout abuse at passers by and go around shop lifting from stores in the area. They even attacked a guy on Friday afternoon breaking his nose. Since the pandemic started Galway seems to have gotten a hell of a lot rougher in my opinion.

wasn't antisocial behaviour one reason for redesigning the square 20+ years ago.

& there have been threads on here about dodgy behaviour in and outside of Supermacs going back several years.

Also I know that people have been being assaulted out of the blue in parts of the city centre and elsewhere for a number of years too

Not backtracking at all.

I don't see evidence that the level of serious issues is any different.

But I do see and hear a bit more a general rough behaviour than pre Covid. But only a small bit more.

I'm not I town much during the day, but am there every night/weekend.

It's also on the guards CCTV. Lots of other places aren't. I'd rather have the troublemakers there in sight, than spread out along the river walkways.

No, it's not acceptable.

Neither was it acceptable for a Polish guy to be stabbed and killed outside DNA (whatever it was called then). Or a Swiss girl to be killed on the line. Or a guy to have lost an eye on Bohermore cos some lads thought he was too cheerful. Or for a county councillor's son to have viciously raped a woman near Water Lane. Etc.

There's been a rough edge here for a long time. It ain't new.

It does seem that way. I hate to agree with Mrs OBumble but I think there is a degree of truth to it. Society is a bit out of whack atm. Also if the guards would stop WFH that would be great!

Soft Judges , Free legal Aid solicitors telling yarns about scumm and some lazy guards three main reasons its becoming a growing problem.

The "guy" they attacked was a 13 year old kid. They beat him unconcious and broke his nose, loosened teeth etc. Can't say too much more about specifics, Guards are dealing with it and will be making arrests. There is CCTV of the alledged attackers.

On a side note one of the alledged attackers was supposed to getting interviewed that very day with his mother about another incident. But instead he was back in Eyre square for more fun....

Eyre Square in particular seems rough all hours of the day. So much riff-raff hanging around. The place has gone downhill unfortunately.
