Because we’d like our children and grandchildren to have a planet they can live on.
For societal, economic and environmental reasons there are of course people whose decisions should be subsidised... public transport and the people who choose to use it should be heavily subsidised as it takes cars off the road
We need to come up with a better Road naming system because the statement from Gardaí about the tragic incident on "Bóthar Na Treabh" actually took place on the stretch of road outbound from the Clayton Hotel crossroads to the motorway roundabout. Maybe the whole run from the Galway clinic to Sheils is officially called B na T but that's about 5km of road. "Monivea Road" is another stretch that seems to be two separate roads without so much as an "upper/lower" to distinguish them.
Buses to get "next gen" ticketing systems as part of the bus connects program
RTE news : Govt to approve Bus Connects planning measures
According to the article, Bus Connects is a Dublin only thing.
Christ above the traffic is grim this evening. What's causing all this I wonder?
Agree, seeing as nearly all the Rounadbouts on the N6 have been removed which had the names of the tribes for them - Bóthar Na Treabh should also be retired? Are the traffic light controlled junctions named in a similar manner anymore - don't believe so.
"Bóthar Na Fainne" has a ring to it. 😉
The road in Briarhill being closed due to the death of a motorcyclist on it last night. Road has been closed all day.
OMFG!
I wound up having to go from the Westside to Chluain Mhuire at around 5 yesterday so took a 405. I thought prior to the pandemic the traffic didn't seem to stand still on Bohermore. Could have that wrong, & i know how long it takes traffic to get down the near parallel College road during rush hour. But seemed like every time i had wound up doing it on the years running up to the frist lockdown traffic did keep moving. It was clogged for ages last night. I wound up getting off the bus near the new hotel, going down and hitting a couple of shops around Tesco's walking back up via the Graveyard roundabout and coinciding with the bus I'd got off passing at the same time.
Was that gridlock down to the Briarhill road being closed, since somebody elsewhere suggested it might have been. Seems like it effected the whole East Side of town if not. & I don't have anything else recently to compare to.
the joy of galway, when any road within the city is closed the knock on affects are major. If the bypass was there would have presented options for people to get around/detour. It would certainly spared the folks that work in parkmore/ballybrit the 2/3 hour delay in getting home.
The traffic did back up on Bohermore outbound in recent years and also during the Celtic Tiger years
And it's called the Briarhill junction to the Coolagh roundabout. I call the entire section (Browne roundabout->Coolagh roundabout) the N6
A mother with her 9 yr old on the bike had a close call with a bus today, passing into oncoming traffic
Keep this in mind the next time you think protected bike lanes aren't needed in Galway
Thankfully, Bus Eireann are taking action
Could be something to do with all people who choose to drive around with four empty seats all day, complaining about the lack of space on the road.
Twas a lot more to do with the man who had a single vehicle crash on his two-wheeler. RIP.
You missed the bit about the fatal crash which closed an entire stretch of road then. Traffic was beyond all normal and reasonable levels as a result. Didn't effect me as I have a round-trip cycling commute of 10 minutes total, but still twas horrendous.
Are there any news reports of this?
Is there some beef between the landlord of the coach station and Citylink and GoBus? How come the coaches are picking up and dropping off on the street outside the coach station when all the bays inside are available?
There are a number of legal cases between bus companies and the coach station I think
I wonder will they find any solution to this seeing as they've apparently accepted they can't legislate against driver behavior.
The solutions available appear to be
Here's the school, with the playing pitches across the road
And what it looks like on streetview
Sightlines are good in both directions so I'm wondering why they feel the need to go with an underpass. Are things that bad that drivers won't/don't slow down near schools and instead break the listed speed limit on a regular basis?
I see no problem in treating the road as an Rxxx and implementing speed ramps if necessary. Alternatively a bridge over the road might be doable. Underpass might lead to awful flooding.
Galway to Roscommon traffic should be encouraged to take the M6 to Athlone and the N61 into Roscommon.
A simpler suggestion might be to do a land swap (or CPO) and develop playing pitches on the same side of the road as the school? It's not as if there isn't loads of space there.
Indeed. Whoever allowed them to be put on different sides of the road should be paying the bill for it.
Darwin award candidate.
I thought Darwin award was self selection not somebody else's offspring
They can't legislate for driver behaviour! That's insane - they are literally legislators. Put in a controlled crossing immediately; no need for reports etc. and then upgrade to an underpass if necessary. Start enforcing speed limits around schools.
No argument, seems like a total cop out to be honest
Heart warming to see all that space on the prom being kept available for all those older people and people with disabilities and emergency services we kept hearing about.
The city council has said that Mary Street from Bowling Green to the Eglinton Street junction while gas main reinforcement works are taking place.
