I'm not sure....for one thing newer younger conscripts might be easier to order around and turn themselves into cannon fodder. Older more experienced troops might not be so easy to manipulate. I'm not saying hats what's happening, just guessing. But for sure, there are units refusing to obey orders and abandoning their weapons and vehicles, and these would be the more experienced ones. Also, according to what we are hearing, this whole plan depended on only taking a short time, but its way behind schedule. Imagine you are a Russian soldier, and told that you will be welcomed as liberators, with open arms,,,,or its just a drill. Disillusionment wont be long setting in.
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE
pretty sure this has already been posted, but this just some of what the Ukrainian people face when trying to flee the cities

I don't think stingers will work on those :(
Do we have to start with the nonsense of alleging that people who express concern about something actually want it to happen? The covid threads were full of the same bs, accusing people of getting turned on as cases rose, etc.
And I wish I shared your giddy optimism, but the fact that nukes would be a clusterfuck is no cast-iron guarantee that Putin won't opt for them. Especially if his chances of winning without them are so slim.
To be fair, the use of the word "whataboutery" is often because (a) the poster is out of their depth or (b) to stifle debate that doesn't suit their position. It can be valid but is usually quite simplistic.
At least they were honest about it.
We've all felt the pinch at the pump this week and we have to recognize that going forward our transportation is not something we can take for granted, running a car was expensive enough before this war began, we're not suffering like the Ukrainians but it's not life as normal for anyone as long as this continues.
Thoughts and prayers. It's very hard on us all here in Ireland.
Yes, something strange happens at the moment - his hand seems to literally pass through the mic stand, which should not be possible. It would be relatively easy to superimpose him into that setting using the green screen effect.
Not unless they fly low enough to get a lock , the Georgians took one down when Russia bombarded them ,so its possible with the right weapons
Fun guy….. but did create the oligarchs and putin….
7 days ago — Ukrainian forces have downed a cruise missile that was launched by a Russian Tu-22 strategic bomber from the territory of Belarus

I thought stinger lock ceiling was 4000m but these planes can fly at up to13000m
Maybe if they're not well maintained and need to fly lower for some reason...
Do Ukraine have any fixed SAMs left operating?
Vicarious trauma is a recognized issue.
The most extreme example of trauma being shared through modern media was 9/11, the majority of people who watched it live were nowhere near it geographically but were aware of it happening live in front of their eyes, the imagery was one thing but the understanding of the consequences also made it a traumatic event for those not present to experience the full horror of it.
Modern rolling news services have changed how traumatic events are understood. In WW2 it took time for events to be communicated to the rest of the world, nowadays its instantaneous. There's some merit to what the poster is saying.
I understand the temptation to roll our eyes and jokingly talk about "thoughts and prayers" as the true meaning of such statements has been watered down to a point where it means nothing, but there is an affect on the psyche from exposing oneself to constant bad news even if it seems trivial when measured against the loved experiences of those on the ground living the event in real time.
We all want to be up to speed at a times in these situations, but maybe there's something to be said for getting out heads out of that space from time to time.
Maybe he is dead...
They seem to have some but I've no idea what they have still operating the have various systems from the buk to the s300 and a few other Russian weapons
They bought 725,000 barrels for €26/barrel less than the market price. So that's a saving of nearly €19 million. If anything from that goes to helping Ukraine (I'm a little skeptical tbh) then Russia is funding Ukraine.. 🤔
It is perfectly valid to compare and contrast previous precedents with ongoing events and the comparison of America's actions in Iraq stand as a valid talking point when it's stacked up against Russia's actions against the Ukraine. This is especially so when the current conflict is used by certain parties to take moral high grounds on behalf of nations whose own very recent history is littered with nefarious activities.
However...there are also bad faith contributors that will use such things to score cheap talking points, or provide simplistic excuses, or drag a topic off of the salient issue. So, at the end of the day, it's probably best avoided.
Anyone that pushes the big red nuke buttons would know they are likely to be ending their own and their families lives too. Russia is more than one man, they will finish Putin before they pull the plug on the nation itself. He may be popular but he does not have a cult mentality where the identity of the state is transferred to a single person, as in Germany and Italy among others.
That's a very bleak assessment for the short and medium term for Ukraine.
seems they used a Buk-M1 surface-to-air-missile system to down it
Suspiciously, there's a picture of him meeting the Israeli PM this evening and those Irish lads who took the old fellas body to the post office are standing either side of him...
So maybe we want to talk about the far left’s support for the Khmer Rouge and the way they questioned the motivations of traumatised people who managed to escape the genocide. Remember when they absolutely denied there was any genocide, killing fields, photographs of human slaves pulling manual ploughs at the end of a rifle barrel. They were the good old days weren’t they? Long live socialism, death to the doubters!
Seen a surreal thing today at the polish Ukraine border crossing.
An Italian male travelled from France with his 40 year old grand piano.
He set up a few meters from the border fence and started playing, when asked why he had done this, his reply was, he had nothing to offer to help but his music.
Surreal to see the constant flow of Ukrainian women and children walking in the queue behind him.
When there is a lull between sirens from emergency services I can here the piano from my house.
Fair enough. But you can see how that would look to those who actually experienced it in real life. I mean, there's a difference between the trauma experienced by survivors of real wars and someone getting PTSD from watching 'Full metal jacket'
Many analysts have suggested it may be impossible for Russia to 'hold' Ukraine. Even if they were to enter Kyiv and temporarily raise the Russian flag over the city, how on earth can they subjugate a nation of 44m people which hates them?
"over the coming weeks we will decide where this money is best placed". In their pockets will be the answer if anyone bothers looking in a month.
I think the simplest way to think about it is that too much negativity is generally bad for the human psyche and the modern world has inadvertently made that negativity something that can be accessed with increasing ease.
