Found about 30 punts worth of Irish coins in a bag the weekend.

Whats the story with cashing them in somewhere in Dublin city centre?

A few of them are the Dublin 1988 Millenium 50p coins , presume their all worth the same as 50p anyways ie no shop buys coins out there

No theres 15 Twenty pence coins - mostly 1986-88-96

Assuming there's noting of collector value in there, you can exchange them at the Central Bank for IR£1 = €1.269738.

I spotted a sign in a not-quite-an-antiques shop in Ennis the other week that said they'd buy coins and notes for IR£1 = €1, so maybe there's other places that buy them to sell them to tourists, but the rates are hardly going to be as good as exchanging them in the CB.

Interesting piece - all the coins i have are circulated coins so face value only for me im afraid - seems only mint unused coins for 1980-2000 are worth anything extra bar a rare issue.

I know of an artist in Balbriggan who crafts jewellery from old Irish coins, he has a facebook page called Strange Change

Circulated condition Millennium 50ps can be shifted for a bit more than their 63c value, ditto the 2000 Broighter Boat £1, but can you be bothered spending the time? Unless someone nearby offers to buy them its probably just easier to give them to the Central Bank for conversion value.

I have a full set of 1971 mint coins in a display wallet somewhere...that's the most boring thing I have said today.

Looked up the central bank and you can drop them into their offices with account details and theyll lodge the proceeds to your bank account or else you can post to them

Unless you live near Dublin how could you justify posting a bag of coin - your postage could be more!

Back in 1985 I worked for a company who were hoping to supply payphones to Telecom Eireann (as was ).

I had the new 20p coin in my hand then (and warned not to lose it).

Seems like you have to make an apointment in the Central Bank between 11 and 3 on weekdays for someone to meet you and take your coins off you.

Unless you live in Dublin city centre its a big enough ask for 30 punts worth of coins
