Not at all. My thoughts on NPHET and their "conclusions" are well documented, however I and others who likewise questioned their actions were told they were experts and we should follow the science.

It's funny now that when that same NPHET tell people masks are no longer necessary (when a lot of us questioned the value of them a long time ago) that that first group now seem to be throwing tantrums because NPHET's advice no longer suits them.

The only conclusion I can draw is..

    1) They still believe it's March 2020 and there's a "deadly pandemic" out there. Was never the case thankfully, and certainly not now, but it's worrying if people still genuinely think this

    2) They latched onto masks and restrictions in the same way the "faithful" latched onto the Church previously. Told that it was the way to salvation and secure in the weekly (and indeed daily) proclamations, while still lashing out at the "heretics" who questioned or worse, didn't believe at all! Again, worrying how this mindset and attitude reasserted itself so quickly in Ireland. We think we've come so far.. but not as much as we think!

    3) The same types who bothered themselves with trying to keep up with the neighbours in the Tiger Years and bothering themselves with what they were getting or "getting away with" in the Recession found a new way to watch, comment on (and indeed report!) their neighbours, all the while showing their compliance and tut-tutting others on radio talk shows and forums like this. Now that the mandates are gone they still hope to maintain that "moral high ground" by pivoting their actions into some notion of civic responsibility and consideration vs those selfish types who will dare show their faces!

None of these 3 types of people should be encouraged as it's only likely to continue to harm their mental health, anxiety or curtain-twitching, in turn leading to ongoing disagreements in workplaces, between friends, neighbours, and families.

As I keep saying, it's time to move on now. Unless you have a valid medical reason (in which case you are probably/should have been aware of your actions long before Covid), it's time to rejoin normal society.

Mad that there are people with these views. The likes of these people scare the hell out of me

Kaiser posted....As I keep saying, it's time to move on now. Unless you have a valid medical reason (in which case you are probably/should have been aware of your actions long before Covid), it's time to rejoin normal society.

Midnight tonight really does represent a Rubicon for so many amongst us.

Large numbers of people now feel abandoned by Govt and NPHET,with so many people (family members of mine included) experiencing a sense of betrayal & abandonment by their former protectors.

Given the vastly more immediate, and very real threats, which can't be dealt with by Emergency Public Health regulations,it is somewhat sobering to consider how sections of the Irish population will deal with the very existance of a new Normal, let alone rejoin it.

The Government has not yet rescinded the entirety of the Emergency Health Acts Regulations,it remains to be seen if anybody is even watching their actions in this regard.

We still need to be Careful...but Covid is by far the lesser of the evils to fear ! 😮

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

LOL time to "rejoin normal soceity".

"Normal society" will continue to care and look out for others tomorrow by masking when in poorly ventilated public spaces.

All that is happening tomorrow is GOVT are taking a % of pressure off. That is all.

Where is compliance now? low 80's? Don't forget to factor in masks covering both nose and mouth and not being removed to speak.

Where is it going to drop to mid 60's?

You really are losing the plot . All that is going to happen is that those who wish to wear a mask will continue to do so and those that won't will no longer wear one

Well that's basically what he said. Dunno who's losing the plot there.

You're absolutely nuts. What has the church got to do with masks? What kind of science do you follow? The science of Facebook?

It's the implication that those who don't wear a mask are some how unfeeling monsters

The science of general sweeping generalisations.

The likes of "these" people. Which people? I made a few points in that entire post you quoted. Are you labelling me as something based on your own personal beliefs? What's the label? Come on, don't stop short of straight up insulting someone. I'd like to know what "these" people are.

Also, for everyone else trying to discuss with a certain poster, just put that gombeen on ignore. It'll be better overall. There's no discussion with them.

I'd say 70% of people on the luas are wearing masks right now, wonder if that'll change later on.

Nope sorry, I don't even have a Facebook account and my thoughts on the negative effects of it and Twitter are things I've posted on previously.

Anyway, happy no more masks day!

Great to see the smiling faces again at school (including the teachers)! Warms the heart.

I think that's the most important point. Kids who've always been at the least risk from Covid finally allowed to get back to acting like kids in school - in some cases, for the first time.

Hopefully the windows will be closed now too!

YIPPPEEEEEEEEEREEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Personal choice at work! Thank fûck they saw sense! (Retail worker) also so far today I’d say it’s probably 50/50 wearing not wearing

All my masks went in the bin this morning (I don't need to take public transport and assume a GP surgery will provide them if I ever need to go).

Now, if only I had an actual need to leave the house today (Tesco are delivering the shop as I don't like brushing shoulders with the great unwashed irrespective of covid) and see what the consensus is with wearing the masks in the local shops.

It's a great day and i echo the points above about schools i'm delighted for them

I know... I did the weekly shopping yesterday and almost all were still masked (albeit the usual 40/50% of those not wearing them properly anyway).

I need to do a recycling run later so will stop by the garage after for a roll and see how things look. Also supporting my local economy so win-win.

Is there anywhere that it is still mandatory to wear a mask?

A lot of workplaces sadly. They'll need to see resignations and the impact of that before they act.

By the Paddy's weekend of double bank holidays, people will have forgotten we were ever in lockdown. I think we'll see the slightly anxious people pretty quickly relax through this week when they go out and about and see others not wearing a mask and not drop dead or be lynched for it (I think the prospect of being shamed for not wearing it, personally, is the main reason people still might be wearing it today).

My workplace is riddled at the moment. I dont work from the office.

But I got covid at a gig last week.

At least you have identified for yourself that your are emotionally needed.

Wearing a mask for some people "warms the heart".

Just for the personal choice yippeeers....

Wearing a face covering is still advised under public health guidance.

Only the legal requirement has been dropped.
