Don't know a huge amount about the old terrorism myself to be honest! but it's around 500 miles from Ukraine to Moscow. How are they gonna get there without being detected. No chance IMO
Anyway, I agree that a few bombs in Moscow would help focus the minds of the Russian people.
It wouldn't end well for any Ukrainian in Moscow unfortunately though if they did somehow manage to do it. Putin's forces would make the Brits look like choirboys in comparison to how the Irish in London were treated during the troubles
Stop there are many Russians here and people who could be mistaken for russian we don't want them to get hurt.
There has to be some level of hesitation in doing so still, even for Putin.
If he launches nukes against any nuclear power then he'll just get them back in return. If if launches then against any NATO member then he'll get them back in return. If he launches them against Ukraine he'll get a finger waved at him and told he's been a very naughty boy, but then Nato forces would move into Ukraine at their request and further use of nukes would result in them getting sent back his way again.
If Ukraine requests Nato forces on the ground in advance then it probably then ensures the mutually assured destruction for Russia so then chances of it happening should be reduced.
Ah, I misread and thought you meant an insurgency within Ukraine.
I have a feeling any kind of engagement on Russian soil would lead to a night or two of residential areas of Ukrainian cities getting absolutely smashed.
Have to target the oligarchs.
No burn it to ground, the norms don't exist anymore play Russia at his own games
Yes that will be a great help to Ukraine - why dont we send our thoughts and prayers also
@Yurt! and @Shao Kahn both of you need to drop the back and forth arguing about posting styles. Report posts, dont drag the thread odd topic calling each other out
Was reading there are 3 million Ukrainians living in Russia, there has to be a few of that number planning lone wolf attacks be it on the Moscow subway or similar
Ukrainian military running away already. Not looking good.
Actually, did you know the Czechs did something like that about 6 years ago in Prague after the Russians blew up a munitions factory in the Czech republic. The Russian police issued an interpol arrest warrant for the Major of Prague after that.
He isn't part of the government, he has just changed his opinion.
Why?
Russia hasn't invaded Ireland you know.
I find this whole situation quite depressing. I visited Ukraine in 2011 flying in to Kyiv for a few days before heading east to Poltava. I didn't particularly like the divide between the rich and normal people in Kyiv. I had a Russian friend who was married to a Ukrainian woman who showed us around and introduced us to the locals, many of whom I'm still in contact today. I found them very friendly and great hosts. There was no hostility between Ukrainians and the Russians everyone got on great and just wanted prosperity and get on with their lives. It seems like light years away now.
They removed a statue
Chill. You can't tar the average Russian with what Putin is up to. It's insulting and xenophobic like the Chinese virus Trump was on about but by all means march up and down outside it.
Publishing a story can get you killed in Russia, what'll they do to the families of terrorists?
I think people need to be careful about applying well-known/mainstream norms to this situation. Look what they did in Grozny. They're fine with levelling residential areas to send a signal. And tbh I'd be worried for the Ukrainians in Russia. I don't expect anything done against them yet, they'll probably get a few or find a Ukrainian speaker to go on TV to say how great Russia is and that Ukrainians should put down their arms. But let's be honest here, if it suited does anyone think Russia won't start rounding people for "defensive" purposes?
How is it nonsensical?
The west and Russia have differing opinions on what NATO is and what it represents.
Russia is of the opinion that it is a threat to their national security, with good reason too, considering it was originally set up primarily to oppose and deal with the threat of the soviet union. Completely disregarding their view of NATO was not a good idea.
If you created a similar military alliance, and started putting it's weapon systems in neighboring countries to the USA... they most likely wouldn't accept it either. Or any other large superpower.
So no, I don't think Russia's stance is nonsensical. They simply have a different opinion on NATO than the west.
Of course people in the west are going to say their views are unjustified. But then we are western biased in our world view, so most people can only see it from our perspective.
And to be clear, I do not like military intervention. I think it's horrible what is going on in Ukraine. But just because I think NATO had a big influence on this situation, doesn't mean I'm justifying it. I am of the opinion that this might have been inevitable eventually though. That doesn't mean I wanted it to happen.
he is head of foreign affairs committee .. im sure lots of germans will be changing their minds now
Just think Russia complained about the illegal annexation of east Germany in the last few years ....
Maybe when the time comes we can send some old army beret's to Berlin
Are you a Ukrainian citizen or Ukrainian-born?
Please go back to your own country to commit arson attacks.
That will definitely help a lot. At least maybe it will focus people on things that matter instead of things like street names.
The leftests (of which i am one) won't know what to make of this. Neither will the extreme right.
Ukraine is it's own country (for now!) it should be able to make its own decisions. Russia has a different opinion so has invaded the country.
Is your solution to just roll over and do what Russia wants? If you think that would stop at just barring Ukraine from join NATO you are naive to say the least. They want the whole country...annexing Crimea was just a placeholder
They get fairly rowdy with our fishermen.
He Chairs it.
There has been no official word from the government on sending arms to Ukraine.
I imagine the debate will start though.
The was a separate one. The street that was renamed was Konevova Ulice, named after Marshall Konev.
Yes I believe a decapitation operation either external or more than likely from internal sources is the best prospect to sort this.
Surely there have to be those in the Russian setup that realise that what Putin is doing is bringing Russia down a path to ruin and there is potential for a lot of Russians and others to lose their lives.
Yep play them at their own game. Poison putin, drone strike him, whatever just kill him. Send NATO air defence to Ukraine. If putin doesn't get the air power Upper hand immediately or if the playing field is leveled then it is a totally different game
Watching CNN and kinda get the impression Russia haven't gone all-out yet. Maybe they're being a bit more circumspect than expected and will just jab and jab to try and force peace talks without committing too much?
from russian political analyst doesnt look like putin is playing this time..
