Thanks Fairin for the information on the possible lines of query. I don't have an Irish passport and my only original passport was submitted as part of the application - so I am pretty much stranded from that point. I also had to submit a resident permit - so a possible line of query is also this impacts my right to live and work in the state. It's disheartening to know that legal recourse would also yield no results but I have reached a point of desperation where I am knocking on all the doors. Already exhausted the TDs, Twitter, phone calls routes.

And thanks scudzilla - in my case, unfortunately, they have confirmed that they haven't been able to locate the documents yet and it's not because of any glitch due to which the tracker is not updated. However, would be curious to know when the status changes for you.

Gosh that is frustrating. You could engage a solicitor and perhaps a letter from a solicitor would help get engagement from the passport office?

Or could you try getting through again in the hope of getting someone else who might be better able to assist?

I didn't realize the passport waiting times are so bad. I have an 8-month-old baby and we have just started the application process for her.

The problem is we have a holiday booked for the 10th of May, does anyone think we will have trouble getting the passport sorted before then? I know people can't tell me for sure, just asking for an educated guess :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

You can see what date they give you once they register the documents and try ring/chat and advise of the dates - not sure if it works but it's worth a try.

We applied on Jan 12th and have a holiday booked for May 22, slightly apprehensive about it, although the guy on the phone did say end of march so have 6/7wks to spare.... Maybe

Its absolutely outrageous that the phone number and the webchat doesn't work. They get away with bad service way too much in that department 😡

I got through to the passport office on the first attempt this morning 👍. They received our docs on 4 Feb, registered them on 7 Feb and estimated issue date of 13 April. Documents are not yet scanned and this will not happen soon. They said the estimated date is not a guarantee, can change and if there is any issue with the application, we go to the back of the queue. We have flights booked for 30 April. All prayers welcome🤞

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

Oh my god back to the back of the que seriously thats insane. Even for the photo??? Like it accepted mine but it was so difficult to get a 1 year old to stay quiet and look in every angle. So stressed about the photo getting rejected.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

I see from tweets to the Passport office that some applications at least are being put to the back of the queue if a new photo is required. Though I think someone on this thread had a different experience so it might depend on who you get. I’m also terrified about the photo, (or that the guard didn’t fill out the log book or that my docs go missing). Here’s hoping our applications are ok and that the overtime will help speed everything up!

Hoping for advice/ hrlp. I applied in December for my daughter 1st time application and got an email yesterday to say photo wasnt good enough and have to resubmit another photo. I got it done in the chemist properly this time. Only problem is I got actual hard copies of the photo but cant upload them now on resubmission form.

Just wondering can I send in the actual hard copy of the photos with my resubmission form or do they have to be digital photos. I spoke with pharmacy and they cant email me digital copies of the photo.

When I am completing the resubmission form it wont let me go any further without the digital photos

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭LapsypaCork

Must be digital for online. If your child is very young, allowances will be made, but make sure there’s nothing in the background

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Galway2018

Thanks very much. I will try and get photo done digitally by pharmacy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭LapsypaCork

Would you not take it yourself? If it’s a small child, just lie them down on a white towel

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

Do you mind me asking what has to go in a resubmission form most previous updates on photos here were turned around really fast but reading twitter I'm ready to cry

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Galway2018

Yea just tried again with the digital this eve. Hopefully it will be accepted. Have holiday booked for start of June, fingers crossed once they receive my documents there hopefully wont be a further delay.

I had not submitted the PPS number and the Garda that originally signed the form back in December, never recorded the details in the Garda Log book so have to go back to the Garda Station again to get the form signed.

Getting form signed tomorrow in Garda station and submitted the correct PPS number online this eve. So once the digital photo is accepted Im really hoping there wont be too much of a delay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

Aw thanks so much for this update. Mines the 5th May but it hasn't even gone to processing still at verifying documents. Fingers crossed for good news soon 🙏 I'm just worried about the photo very active 1 year old so it was a challenge!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Galway2018

The one year olds are such a challenge to get the correct photo. The stress. Ill keep you posted on the timeframe it will take. Im going to contact webchat next week once they have received the documents to make sure all is ok.

I got my son to take a few photos of me to renew my passport online about 7pm Sun 16th January. The first photo was rejected, no reason given, so I filled in the form again and attached a different photo which was accepted. I had the new passport delivered by An Post at 10:30 Tue 18th January. I couldn't believe it, quickest service ever. Well done passport office.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

Renewals are totally different. First time applications are experiencing major delays. You’d be very lucky to get a passport in 2 months.

The log book fear 😬. Was this an online application? There is actually a box in the form for the guard to confirm they’ve put it in the log book.

    Good luck!

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

do you know when your status changed to verifying documents? We are still at the “send in your documents” stage. (They got them on 4 Feb and have confirmed they have them).

    Thank you!

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Galway2018

Yes it was online application. Garda in station actually ticked box in form that said log book. However he must have never completed the actual log book with the details of our daughter application. Very frustrating.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

did you see lottie ryans story on instagram about the same thing they did this twice to her and the Gaurds dont know why they are sending it back as the log book is correct she seen it and they keep sending her back the same issue!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

i sent my docs 31st December and they received them 5th January. However it hasn't moved from there since - I've been on webchat to ask if the docs are ok and photo but they just tell me they cant discuss the passport process and so far no issues. I'm a lil concerned they haven't even looked at it yet even tho the status bar is 3/4 the way there. I'll keep you updated :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

There needs to be some accountability around this. It happens too often and you have zero control over it. My sympathies. It sounds like you have a bit of time and hopefully the new staff will have an impact in time for you 🤞

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

🤯. thanks for that intel tho. Something to check if it blows up

I sent in my documents on Friday with the form the Guards have to sign. From other peoples experiences in the past while do people think I have a chance of getting the passport by May 10th? I have to pay off the rest of my holiday in a few weeks and I am thinking about just saying "Screw it" and just losing the deposit /not pay off the holiday. I'm not paying an extra 1.4k if I won't get to go 😥

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Galway2018

You would hope that all should be ok. We have booked holidays for start of June. Its a really hard one to call.

Hi all I have an application for 1st time passport for my son in since 16th January. It's still saying submit documentation on the tracker. I managed to get through to the office (after 27 calls) and the woman told me documentation was with them. Anyone have any idea how long the tracking status takes to change Thanks.

    Hi folks,

I have to renew my passport - gonna do it online.. seems the quickest way to get it...

Any tips for when taking my photo? I imagine I will have difficulty with that bit..

I have passport photos - if I can em and upload them would that work?

    TIA...

Seems to be like a lottery to be honest. I just took a selfie with my face against a wall and it was accepted.

My mother and father did the same thing and it was rejected, they tried every and which way, it got rejected every time. They even got a photo taken in the pharmacy and that was rejected.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

I would really love to know the answer to your question.

My friend submitted paper first time application for her daughter. Docs received 1 Feb, tracker says they are being verified, est issue date 31 March. My son’s docs (online application) were received 4 Feb, not scanned, tracker not updated, rang and was given an est issue date of 13 April. is it possible that paper applications are faster? Is scanning the problem? 🤷‍♀️

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

We are on a similar time frame I think. They got our docs on 4 Feb and our flights are 30 April. Est issue date 13 April. If everything is ok w our application, we should be ok. If not, we’ll probably cancel. We’ll loose the deposit but can get a voucher for the flights. With work and childcare, this is the only week we can go 😬

They said there is glitch in the system for updates don't know is this a lie ir true

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

They received my sister’s docs on 10 Feb and updated the tracker last night to say processing application with an estimated issue date of 25 Apr. Still no update on my application which they had 6 working days earlier 🤷‍♀️.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 ShaneKelly26

It seems to be complete pot luck so no system to it🙈

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

My application just flicked to processing. its taken 6 weeks to get that far!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

Great news - Application is now printing and it was estimated 10th March

Woohooo!!! Congratulations, such lovely news. The photo was fine after all

Our tracker saying send in the documents 8 working days after receiving them. I’d be a lot more comfortable if we just got that far.

keep us posted! And enjoy the relief 😊

  • Registered Users Posts: 531 ✭✭✭Cookiee

That's great news!, can I ask was it first time application for a child or and adult? Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 24 sunshine2022

First time child straight forward both parents irish born in Ireland. Once it goes to processing and they have everything seems to zoom by. overtime is helping so fingers crossed the tracker updates soon.

    Hi folks,

My supporting docs for a first time passport were received on the 2nd Feb, but online tracking still says they're waiting to receive them. Anything i should be concerned about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,950 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

We applied for first time passport for little one, application submitted Jan 13th, Docs delivered 19th Jan, still saying we need to supply supporting docs.

Spoke to them last week, they said its a glitch on system, they have the docs but are unable to check if ok as they've not been uploaded yet.

Estimated delivery date of March 29th was given

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

I’m not really buying the glitch in the system. My niece’s application went in 6 business days after ours and it said verifying after 4 business days. Sunshine 2022’s application was updated to verifying quite quickly too.

anyone not get to verifying quickly but have a good outcome regardless?

Glitch in the system could relate to a single device, so some applications' statuses are updating and others aren't. It doesn't have to be a universal glitch to exist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

Thanks for that. A glitch would be great. They told me last week that they had my docs, they hadn’t been scanned and when my application was “processed on to the system”, my tracker would update. I took from that that no update on tracker meant no progress but it might not mean that at all. 🤞

    Hi,

I applied for a passport renewal for my son (we live in Spain) , I made the stupid mistake of sending the ID witness document by Correos post (registered) and this has gone missing.

Received application Feb 4, as of today still looking for the supporting docs.

When I track that on correos the last update is Feb 10th .... so it's fairly certain those documents are gone.

Anyone know can I send a scan of this document to the passport office ? or a fax?

Or even better if I can take the actual document to the Irish consulate office here?

Also seems impossible to get through to the helpline, or the webchat, even when it's green i fill in the chat topic info and it just times out ...

Anyone get through to either ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭Fairin

I’ve gotten through by phone twice. If you get the recording of the woman, you are not getting through. If you get the recording of the man, you are getting through.

I rang over and over and over (times about 130) and got nowhere. Had more success in trying every once in a while. I either got through on the first ring or not at all.

    good luck!
