Any thoughts on this given the large uptake of vaccination for Covid in Ireland?
Agreed. When this is over, analysis will show whether the decisions made benefited the people, but the analysis will also show why the decisions were made and the thought process behind it. Ireland will not be alone in that, and certainly mistakes will have been made. But we learn from our mistakes.
We never learn from them - we simply double down and try to justify them. Hopefully this will precipitate the end of the so-called "EU", which is an affront to nationhood and goodness and fairness.
This really isn’t the thread for Brexit discussions, I appreciate NI is in a kind of quasi half in - half out situation, but if you vote Loyalist, you have a better chance of getting your wish to leave the EU.
Those Quislings are not my Government. I recognise only the Government of the 32-County Irish Republic.
My friend can't get it for medical reasons, history of blood clots and other related issues.
He has a doctors exemption letter he brings around with him.
Only the local coffee shop and pub will let him in as they know him.
Cinema/theatre/restaurant in our area won't accommodate him and foreign travel is out.
Tell him he's not being discriminated against.
What choice did he have?
He is being discriminated against, in the same way he might not be allowed into a bar if he couldn’t show proof of age if it was required. It is unfortunate for your friend, but there are few contraindications to vaccinations, a quick google shows a history of clotting/taking of anticoagulants isn’t one of them.
My cousin’s aunt’s best friend’s daughter had a history of clotting and other issues, her Dr had no problem giving her the vaccine, and she had no problems afterwards.

To relate that to discrimination on race grounds in the US is a unique viewpoint.
wont treat me kindly?
oh dang I didn’t know I made up these rules…
There is a group of people who for some reason constantly attack any positive or potentially positive news regarding covid. This aversion to anything which may be construed as positive news is often masked with generic "lets hope for the best but prepare for the worst or simply some "concern or how we need to be careful" type of responses.
They often lack ability to use simple logic, critical thinking or any thinking really unless message is endorsed and rubberstamped by their favorite factcheckers.
They outright dismiss ideas like that some people may be genetically resistant to sars cov2 despite that science recognize this phenomena and are trying to figure out why that is happening/ (where one of the explanations seems to be previous exposure to other corona viruses)
That is ridiculous and pretty lame statement considering restrictions, lockdowns and even vaccination were offered exactly in the same way as something we have to do to protect vulnerable people.
When someone pointed that perhaps vulnerable people do have to shelter, cocoon and protect themselves we were told time and again something in a sense that how dare we think to exclude these people from society that they have right to enjoy life the same way we do and now you do say that they should jog on?
Incredible.
Can you please link the study that supports your claim that an infection with a virus causing a cold gives better immunity than a vaccine?
So instead a Covid cert policy which c montgomery’s claims discriminates against his/her friend by restricting entrance to only a few premises, you advocate an alternative, the medically compromised “shelter, cocoon, protect themselves” by staying at home altogether?
And you lament others not using logic?
I do not advocate anything. I just pointed out your hypocrisy.
You posted this, if you want support, provide a link to where you read this claim that previous cold infection is more effective than a Covid vaccine.
Where is the hypocrisy? Are you saying I should instead support a strategy to make c Montgomery’s friend stay at home all the time?
I am not going to engage in word twisting and deliberate misrepresenting of what was said. Read what I said again. Then again and again till you understand what I said.
You are lacking attention to detail and that make you prone to bad judgement.
*edit to add - I am not looking for or desire any "support" from stranger on internet, whatever you actually mean by it. What made you think that?
Your words are literally there, unedited in your post that I quoted, there is no way of twisting your words or misrepresenting them, the language you used is clear and unambiguous. Unless you can support what you said, it is misinformation.
Do you agree misinformation should be dismissed unless the poster can provide evidence to support it?
Mod - Wrong thread, you constantly shoehorn this into every conversation you can. It's off topic, do so again and you'll be threadbanned.
But presumably your examples are to stop transmissibility?
Why are you linking those two issues with mandatory vaccination?
Why are the unvaccinated the cause?
do the fatties now sure while you’re at it.
Define naive and give one example.
Buyer’s remorse.
Perhaps don’t want a control group.
So stay in and hide then.
This fear mentality needs to go.
Who is afraid?
“that expectation that things must be getting better has potential to be a huge issue.” You.
Read that again. Talk about a glass half empty.
I feel sorry for you if that’s your pessimistic approach to life.
That's it I reckon..
Does that mean I’m afraid?
Nobody is catching obesity, nobody is having to seal off entire wards and gown up because a patient is too heavy. You know this, stop pretending otherwise. The control group exists, and they make up a disproportionate number of covid deaths.
Do they?..last numbers I saw a couple of weeks before Xmas it was pretty much 100% vaccinated died..
Obesity is a burden on the health service too. Obesity is a huge problem for covid patients.
Unvaccinated are no more the cause of spread than vaccinated.
You know this.
Please be wary of the principles being established. It could be your particular subset next.
