Any thoughts on this given the large uptake of vaccination for Covid in Ireland?
The fact that vaccines help isn't enough to justify mandatory vaccination. Not being obese helps, but apparently we're not demanding that everyone gets out of bed an hour earlier and goes for a run.
Unvaccinated people do disproportionately appear in figures for higher levels of care. But it now seems (contrary to the line up to now, suggesting that the sickest folk were mostly unvaxxed) that nearly 70% of the folk requiring most care for Covid are actually vaccinated.
And, as we already know, 85% of deaths are people who are vaccinated - so, for some reason, a significant amount of the sickest vaccinated people with covid seem to bypass the ICU experience completely, further pushing up the apparent unvaxxed proportion.
So, tbh, the justification for mandatory vaccination - on the basis of the overall load on the healthcare system - isn't really there.
What is there is a strong case to offer vaccination to people most at risk - older and vulnerable people. For them, it's a straight presentation that this is best for them.
Not sure why people are so averse to just googling something

That has been around as a theory from nearly the very beginning of this. From September 2020.
they asked for a link, they got a link. I’m not exactly sure what your point is?
That's it been around for a fair while as a theory. I too provided a link.
to be fair if a study has been conducted demonstrating the theory it’s no longer just a theory!
Well no. It's still very much a work in progress as the author states, but it is interesting none the less.
But it certainly does not backup the claim made on here, the author also goes out of his way to say that.
While this is an important discovery, it is only one form of protection, and I would stress that no one should rely on this alone. Instead, the best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is to be fully vaccinated, including getting your booster dose
Can you provide a link to back this up patnor?
I have read about this being an opinion to explain why some people never get it, but not that it supersedes vaccines or indeed that it would be something that a person could rely upon, as it appears to be quite random.
Edit. I see Raichu has provided the link to the study which I have read before, thank you Raichu, but my point is why you think this negates the need for vaccines, which us quite clearly NOT said by the researcher doing the study?
Does that support patnor’s statement? I’m in transit so just scanned it, does the study you linked say previous flu infection gives better protection than the vaccine?
Think you have misread the data there.? Or misquoted maybe?
The first link clearly states..
"Unvaccinated patients comprised 8% of those who did not require oxygen and almost one-third (32%) of those requiring oxygen or ventilation.
“This is a significant overrepresentation of patients who were unvaccinated being treated for severe Covid-19,” the IDSI said in a statement."
And your second link...
It is not 85% vaccinated that have died, the data you linked clearly says..
63% between june 2021 were vaccinated,
84% were over 70 years of age!
Hard to discuss it with any seriousness after that.
No, colds.
I am not advocating mandatory vaccination. It is a horrible idea. But they clearly help
Absolutely, they help. Unfortunately, that has been clouded by excessive claims - while the review published this morning makes it clear that 70% of folk getting intensive treatment are vaccinated, we all know that spin to date has all been to the effect that most were unvaccinated.
But 30% unvaccinated is still a lot, and enough to encourage most people to choose vaccination. There was never a need to inflate claims, but that's what was done.
I'd also suspect the concentration on ICU figures was because it was the only metric that could be presented as showing an enormous disproportion, in a context where only 15% of deaths were known to be unvaxxed. 15% is still disproportionate - but emphasising the figure could only draw attention to the fact that most deaths were of vaccinated folk.
Uh you’re not barred from restaurants/cafes/takeaways you just can’t eat and drink indoors. You can go to McDonald’s and get food but you cannot eat it there. Outside if they have an outdoor seating setup but not inside.
Lying is never good as it erodes confidence. It was at the start when they told us that masks did not help at all and then kept saying schools were safe places (subsequently denying they ever said that) that lead to mistrust.
Ok, finally had a chance to read what you linked. It is not what I asked for, and does not support patnors claim that previous cold infection is more effective than a vaccine.
Would you like to try again?
So the calories are balanced out by the step count.
Depends on how many calories and how many steps.
oh & in a lot of places now McDonald’s deliver. Seems if your in a town or city with one near you - it’ll deliver.
They use the drive through.
Read the article from the journal.
It is NOT saying what you appear to think it is saying
Thete was no lying about severity in hospital and the amount of severe illness in the uvaccinated vs the vaccinated both in hospital and in icu.
During Delta the severity of illness was more extreme.
Now it is much milder disease but still affecting those who have reduced or no immunity, more especially if underlying conditions, with this wave they are mainly asthma and COPD.
I don't agree with mandatory vaccine either
I never said they were lying about severity in hospital but they demonstrated they would lie when it suited their agenda so you can see why doubters would doubt
The article absolutely supports what I’m saying. Just read it without a predetermined view of what you want it to mean.
Incidently, I don’t intend to repeat the obvious.
Fair enough.
I think you mean hypothesis.
A theory is a powerful explanation for a broad set of observations.
They said the same to people of colour in the US in the 1950s
History won't treat you kindly
Being a person of colour is not a personal choice. It is important to know what racial discrimination is, in order to be able to understand why it is wrong.
Being vaccinated is a personal choice, if you chose not to be, you are restricted from certain activities. History will record the circumstances.
It will record it as an affront to humanity, and totalitarian government overreach which led to mass executions of those responsible.
Much as I know how much some northern nationalist groups enjoy executing people, we don’t go for that type of thing in this country. Best to stay with your own up there Risteard.
Edit: My apologies Risteard, I just realised that you were referring to your Governmemt of your country in Belfast/ London.
History will show that we chose certain options during this pandemic that may not and probably should not be repeated, basically because we had very few other tools. That will change.
When are the mass executions starting?
