Anyone know what is his medical exception?
oh dear.
Do you have actual proof that he lied?
you do know what lying is? It’s not just a mistake. It’s deliberately deceiving people.
He and his team said this was an error made on a form.
he lied on his visa application. he thought he was above the rules that applied to everybody else.
I would have very little time for Australians or Australia in general, but this is tremendous news. People who aren’t vaccinated are entitled to their conspiracy theory opinions, but they also put others at risk and need to feel the consequences of their actions.
I don't really understand the "delighted" and "great news" comments regarding this?
Was Djokovic particularly disliked or hated before this or does his expulsion open an opportunity for an Irish tennis player to enter or win the tournament?
As far as I can tell there's a tennis player on the other side of the world who followed a process to get exemption for entry into Australia and he travelled expecting to enter the country. He was denied entry at first but then a court ordered that he be released from detainment and that he not be deported. Then the government took the unusual step of taking the "management reserves the right to refuse entry for any reason" approach, which seems like a very rare occurrence, just so he could actually be deported anyway.
Why are people are "delighted" about this? I think sportspeople have generally been allowed to travel and get exemptions for most of the pandemic? It's not like we are talking about a murderer or other criminal who is being extradited after a long legal battle. He's a tennis player. Seems like it would have been easy to just let him play?
Maybe a sad reflection on us that a sportsperson who isn't even Irish being deported from a country on the other side of the world is a "win" for some people?
he lied on a visa application. it wasn't a slip of the pen.
He should just have got vaccinated like the rest of us.
The ire against Australia is a deflection from the fact that all the remaining tennis players complied with the rules and can play. There is only one person who is responsible for this mess and who should be blamed, and that is of course boof-head himself. Double fault - game, set, and match.
Djokovic is to blame for this whole imbroglio, not Australia. Had he tried to ignore the laws against illegal drugs and tried to smuggle 100g of cocaine in his briefs, he wouldn't be playing and it would be his fault. I would support such a decision, even though I think the war on drugs is more stupid than some of the covid stuff.
People shouldn't be using this as a pro-anti Covid measures cause célèbre, it's about a country having visa requirements and somone choosing to give the finger to them.
Telling you, it’s simply people salivating because someone famous and successful and talented is getting shafted.
People hiding behind “rules apply to all” nonsense. World is full of this
Thats it. The mob think the end justifies the means.
Even go back to the OP of this thread. "whats his medical exemption"?
52 pages later everyone is happy that he was booted out because he didn't mention he was in Spain within x amount of time of entering Australia.
Well done everyone, the big bad bogeyman has been GOTCHA'D.
Not kicked out for anything covid related (which is the whole point of this yeah?).
Rather kicked out for not mentioning all his movements. His PCR hasn't been proven as fake.
They got him, but they got him for all the wrong reasons.
So well argued..that's me convinced.
Honestly, Australian border controls are renowned for being one of the strictest in the world. I do agree the declaration if done in 2016 may not be so much of an issue, but looking at this objectively, there's a lot more than just the declaration form that has been considered, yes I accept the vaccine stance also in the mix, my entire argument has been the shenanigans that occurred, the wink and nod so to speak, I've Honestly stayed clear of the Covid angle.
If he got sick I'm sure he'd leave and be taken care of by his own medical team elsewhere
Why would you think that? What has he done recently to demonstrate that he gives a single shimmering, shiny fook about anyone or anything else other than his own personal interests?
And that's even if he did have Covid. Because, let's face facts here.......the reality is either:
a) he DID have it, and knowingly met with a whole load of people, including a load of kids for a photo op or
b) he didn't have it, and got the powers that be to falsify his records to show this
Either are grounds for refusal, and both of them make a mockery of your assumption that he would 'do the right thing'. He has been given ample opportunity to do so while the focus of the world was not on him. Now that it is, any claims that he'll turn over a new leaf should be met with derision.
of course you are.
How is that SS uniform fitting ?
They are booting him out based off a clerical error.
way OTT here. Zero common sense, and staggering pettiness.
and no surprise really.
The good thing about all this is it will backfire on Australia, the world knows what a fascist shithole it's become.
Also the people happy about it, good to know who the little medical dictators are.
No actually, I'm happy enough that both he and me are treated the same if we want to enter Australia. That's the bottom line and it's evidently what the Aussie people care about more, because only 77% of them have taken up vaccination after it being available for 10 months now.
I don't give a bollix that he didn't get vaccinated, he can do what he likes, however we all live in a society and there are communal consequences for individual choices, so those that choose not to have it must accept the consequences with their eyes wide open. Djokovic would face limitations on his daily life all over Europe too for choosing not to get vaccinated, so let's stop pretending that this is a uniquely Australian issue.
Nonsense.
Nothing to show? They have had one third the number of deaths as Ireland while having 4 times the population. That's 99 deaths per million people vs Ireland's 1202.
Your nothing to show for it works out at 31,097 people still alive who wouldn't have been had they Ireland's great record. We are the ones with little to show for it and the future deaths from late cancer diagnosies and other illnesses will probably dwarf the covid deaths.
People haven't given out about other players who stayed at home and sat out the AO due to not being vaxxed as far as I can see?
People have an issue with the fact he tested positive (rather conveniently) went to events after he knew this fact, plus he lied on his form on entry...which in Australia is a serious issue. He used his money, lawyers and status to attempt to stay but it looks like it won't work.
He can of course choose not to get vaccinated but Australia has a right to set it's own conditions for entering their country.
I hear you Dempo, but I also ask myself this.
If he had filled in the forms in the exact same way in say 2016 would this be a big issue?
Or would it be chalked off as a clerical error by whoever filled in the form and assistance would be given to him to tidy up the paperwork.
Is it about public health, border control or is it about making an example out of a fella who is careless filling in forms.
If it is about public health he is no more dangerous this year than he was last year.
If its about border control, he's hardly coming to sponge of the state or smuggle in a load of cocaine.
If its about filling in forms incorrectly.....they have got him.
It’s folks wanting to see people on positions of power not take the piss. The Boris Johnson party thing is the exact same
They have every right to be antivax but with that decision comes consequences, in this case it’s a requirement to enter the country and he doesn’t meet that. Same as any other potential traveller into Australia.
people (especially australian people) have a right to be annoyed that somebody thought that being good at tennis made him special and above the rules applied to everybody else.
It's hard to know where to begin with the number and depth of the ways you are wrong, so I won't.
But you are. And you know it too.
You have said it better than I have.
The mob are delighted he got his comeuppance for being arrogant, lying on a form, thinking he is above the rules etc
But really they are delighted because he didn't get vaccinated and they want him punished for that.
It was always about him not being vaxxed as opposed to integrity of border control, public health etc.
They are annoyed he had the temerity to not do what they have chosen or been coerced into doing.
This has nothing to do with health and safety and rules.
it’s the usual folks clamouring to see people in positions of power and people who are very successful and talented, fail and fall.
Precisely, I've been arguing this point from the outset, I care less about his vaccination status or stance, he got preferential treatment, took the Pee , showed breathing arrogance, then Farage sails in to defend the indefensible. Its been a farce from start to finish and whilst those who'll defend this arrogant clown based on the whole Covid Argument, they'll, not ever, ever see that this arrogant P****K did anything wrong and I might add Australian Tennis have questions to Answer also.
Excellent result , Game, set and Match 😁
Or is it the more likely story that a spoiled sports person though that he was above the entry requirements for a country.
He either conveniently caught covid or arranged for a fake positive to allow him entry, when this was not a requirement for entry into the country.
He broke his own countries covid laws
He lied on a visa application
There is enough reason here to have the visa canceled.
Where is the 99.9% figure coming from?
And your statement about flu being more deadly?
Anything I read doesn't back that up.
Even if you include pneumonia which you don't seem to be doing...covid deaths are higher.
"Data from the Office for National Statistics show that in England and Wales the number of deaths from influenza was 1598 in 2018 and 1223 in 2019.1 This is way below the annual deaths from covid-19, which at the current rate of around 800 deaths a week in England and Wales equates to more than 40 000 a year."
