Ive been sent info that im being considered for a particular garda station. I have a disability and ive googled the station looks like an old building that wouldnt be accessible to me . Can the offer be revoked once i declare my disability on the health declaration ?? Any advise from someone that required reasonable accommodation building wise!
I dont think its right that they can ask those kind of questions would that not be against gdpr? How did. it go for you ?
Unless your department sanctions overtime you'll just lose the extra time you put in. You could come to some arrangement with your manager for a couple of hours off on another day but as it stands flexi is still suspended.
With flexi time suspended, if you have meetings and end up working some overtime - does anyone know how that works? I guess it is just lost and you don't get time back?
I’ll PM you there
Hi ive just been advised im being considered for a role in a local small garda station. Can anyone advise who then are my employers is it the covil service or the garda? Basically who will i answer to ? Also what kind of work is involved ? Maybe someone who is in a small station could advise?
Hi, just a question, if you are on a panel, does an expression of interest go out like the Tusla panel for example and you chose to apply or not or if your oom is reached, are you offered a specific department. My county has one dept with a shift role, or is it the case of if offered and you don’t accept, are you off the panel. Thanks,
I haven’t a clue tbh. I just got a message on public jobs to say I got the job and the Revenue will be in touch regarding start dates 😕
It was worded as "you are under consideration for a position subject to a number of checks". I had to go through additional clearance and was told where I would be placed. I'm guessing next step is HR phonecall/contract. Do you know if PAS are no longer involved at this stage? Thanks.
The reference check is very thorough, i believe the form is a couple of pages long and they ask about your absences
How was such a thing disclosed / discussed on a reference check?
Did you get assigned a place or just waiting to hear after sent off your info?
I don't feel sooo alone now. Fingers crossed we'll hear shortly. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Im in the same boat. Got assigned Revenue in Dublin on November 5th and they’ll be in touch but haven’t had anything since.
I'm not in the Civil Service so take this advice with a pinch of salt. I would just be honest about it. I clearly don't know your circumstances. Although I am thinking about it from the point of view that if you give wrong info and they found out, it would look worse. Not saying you're going to do that. I think once it doesn't prevent you from carrying out the duties, you should be grand.
I hope there will be someone along to provide better advice..
Thanks Saulgudman,
I'll send off an email on Monday. This really is an awkward stage when you don't know your start date and your employer knows you're leaving. Hope we both hear soon.
Hi Dark J,
I would definitely email them asking them for an update and ask them to confirm if they need anything further from you. its a fair request at this stage.
I got a phonecall in December and was given a start date for late Jan 2022 . Still waiting to hear from HR whether its office or WFH so hopefully will hear this week. like yourself I'm wondering have they forgot. I emailed previously and they said they would be in touch closer to the start date.
Hi, I am currently undergoing reference checks and it came up that I have taken two weeks certified sick leave. PAS asked me for a comment on the absence as it is a significant number of days. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m worried that they won’t offer me a position due to it 😅 TIA
Is everyone placed from this panel that was due to be placed, before it closed? I got a conditional offer in Sept, clearance came through in late Nov, references asked/returned early Dec and nothing since. I hope they haven't forgotten about me. Don't really wanna Email them yet, so soon after the holidays.
Yeah its a commitment. The time and effort it takes to train someone up to a suitable standard is the reason behind it.
5 years? 😕 That's a long time! If you get placed on the open competition can you take up the new role and just leave?
ICOs sign on for an initial contract of 5 years so you cannot move to a "normal" CO position within this period. You can be only be promoted out.
Out of curiosity, could you also move from a position like a CO position in the Irish Prison Service (Dublin) or Immigration Controle Officer in Dublin Airport to another Civil service body, if you want to move closer to your home county? Once you meet the above criteria?
has any one been assigned to Garda Headquarters interested to know what the hours and generally what its like to work in TIA :)
Thank you very much. And congrats :)
Hi BSK,
it shouldn't be an issue. Just contact your HR dept and explain it to them.
Im due to go on maternity leave mid January and was told to contact my HR dept once placed but shouldn't be an issue.
Hi,
I got assigned a position in the Revenue in Dublin in November but haven’t headed anything since. My girlfriend is due in January, I made sure to tell them in the interview and they said it’s fine.
Just wondering how it works with been off for 2 weeks possibly during training?
Thanks
Just wanted to come on a wish everyone a happy Christmas! I started in Dep Justice in November and I really love it. I am based in Immigration/repatriation and the work is really interesting. I work from home two days one week and three days the following week on rotation. There seems to be lots of vacancies in the department so if you are offered one, I highly recommend working here 😊

Just being assigned to Legal Aid Board. Was just wondering if anyone else has been placed there what location? There's one local to me, so keeping fingers crossed its there, but I'd say it'll be city centre based. So just looking for a rough gauge on where is being mostly filled. Thank you 😊 location is Dublin
