If presenters around the country are able to fill three hours a day, how can two presenters and a producer (is there a second producer too?) not find a way to fill three hours? It’s outrageous when you think of it
Happens very often now. They used to repeat their celeb interviews the next day but now can't wait. They could just leave it at mentioning the podcast, but they're not producing enough content to cover 3 hours
Maybe Danny boy in 2fm would give him a gig on the big station ?
Just looked. Clearly stung by it alright. Blowing the top and going out with a hissy fit wouldn't have done him any favours though so he kinda has to be professional. He's not a big enough name for that. He'll never get a bigger or better job than this one. I don't know how he got it in the first place tbh.
I'm not so sure, have you seen his twitter
Ferg is back on today anyway. Which would certainly suggest the parting is amicable.
That’s a tough slot for Paula with two small kids. Then again the early morning slot would have been as well. Her poor fella!
Yes. I've stuck on Spotify. I mean, wtf? I can understand repeats - but within the very same programme?!
February
Are they playing the same interview again for some reason?
When does this new schedule start? Did I miss a start date on their announcement?
Quite like Pamela Joyce, think she'll come into her own a bit more on lunchtimes. Foley is 2 until 4:30.
Think the schedule change has the potential to be quite good if given the time to bed in. Would expect them to tweak their weekend schedule again in the not too distant future.
The foundation is place now for a post Dempsey today FM with a 6 to 9 breakfast slot
Pamela Joyce and Paula McSweeney are the same person. Same voice.
Can't stand either of them so I guess Today FM will never be an option for me. Only Foley would entice me and he's only on 2 hours a day.
That's interesting that Ed Smith goes back that far. I don't think he was presenting all that time though.
Apparently Gift Grub has been around a long time and may go back to when Mark Byrne presented on Today FM. This means that Mario Rosenstock is there longer than Iano. It is easy to forget about Mario in that context as he did not have his own show at all until much more recently.
I can imagine they'll definitely be a yesterday on Giftgrub feature on Dempseys 6AM hour
When a piece is pre recorded and inserted into a show. The pre record could be the day before, an hour before the show, could be just before it's played. Easy to spot in breakfast radio as there will be a noticeable lack of time checks or audience interaction (text read out etc).
For example, say the cash machine amount is a bit of a tongue twister. A presenter could record the link to the amount, the number to text and the T&Cs while the news is on, play it and his or her first song and come in live after the first song.
At least 10 minutes of Ian Dempsey’s extra hour will be filled by him explaining how the “Waffle” game works and how many dings you need, followed by a clip of a recent winner to prove the game isn’t a fix. Then followed by another few minutes for the obligatory plugs for the Cash Machine and Sky programmes.
Didn't know he's group operations director, himself and Foley are good friends
Ed Smith has been with Today FM since as far back as 1998 but I only heard him on air first in around 2013
The breakfast presenter David Cawley, on Mid West Radio in Mayo, has been on that slot since October 1998, so very close enough to Ian's record.
Numbers were up across loads of shows on lots of stations, presumably down to working from home. The drops from D&D to Mairead, and again to Fergal showed that people were switching off/over in big numbers.
Ian Dempsey has the current longest unbroken record with Today FM, having started presenting the breakfast show in late September 1998.
In fact, I would imagine he must have the current longest running breakfast show of any Irish station. Could someone confirm that?
Alison Curtis started as a researcher/producer on Today FM around the time of Ian's arrival, but left a short while later for the pirate Phantom FM. She returned to Today FM in 2003 after Phantom stopped its unlicensed broadcasts, this time with her own show The Last Splash. She left again for about a year-and-a-half in 2011 for the now licensed Phantom, before returning again to Today FM (by that stage, there were under common ownership), and has been doing her breakfast weekend shows ever since.
Matt Cooper has the honour of having the current second longest unbroken record with Today FM, when he became the official replacement for Eamon Dunphy as presenter of The Last Word in early 2003. He had been standing in frequently before that. I did not realize it was that recent until I did a Google check.
What makes me think it’ll be Ray and JP is the fact he said we twice in his quote.
No issue with getting an extra hour of Iano in the morning, always easy to listen to.
that’s a solid schedule imo, lunchtime will suit Pam Joyce down to the ground and I’ll be keeping fingers and toes crossed that it goes well for foley. Interested to know if he’s solo or has a team on air which worked so well previously.
What’s voicetracked?
So there's lunchtime jocks on in the morning and afternoon but not at lunchtime? Surprised that D'Arcy got ousted with his numbers, but it's a silver lining
I’m sure the money helps.
...and many others. But in the early days of LIVE 6 hours shifts there was Philip Cawley, Mike Ryan, Paul Scanlon, John Clarke, John Kenny, Mike Moloney.
But that is another thread !!!
Ian Dempsey must be sickened to have an extra hour. Unless it's pre-recorded
Overnight shifts shared between Gerry Wilson, Bob Conway and Gerry Gogan.
