This question goes out those who took the 2 jabs? Will you you take it to get back to normality? Or are you sick of the government moving the goalposts constantly?
Do you work for Pfzier or something? Because if you don't I have no idea how you've come to that conclusion. The covid vaccines are very good at reducing serious illness and death in the vulnerable and this is a very good thing. They're far less good at stopping breakthrough infections and transmission and they get less and less good at that within months. As it currently stands these "one of the more effective vaccines ever" will require six month boosters for the foreseeable. And no, before you bring in annual flu jabs, they're a very different thing.
Took nearly 200 years to eradicate smallpox
Not quite. It's a lot more complex than that. While the developed world was largely clear of it, if there are any seventy year olds reading this, when they were toddlers there were forty plus million cases of smallpox annually around the world. In the late fifties the WHO made the decision to attempt to drive it extinct worldwide and achieved that within twenty years. The last naturally occuring case was in the same year the first Star Wars flic came out. They were able to do this because the vaccines were very effective at stopping transmission, protection lasted longer and activated more quickly, smallpox sufferers were only infectious when symptomatic and there were no animal reservoirs of the virus. So if someone came down with it they could rush to vaccinate all those in the immediate area and in most cases stop the spread dead at the source. Covid doesn't tick any of those boxes really. Oh and we're pretty close at putting polio into the history books.
I got the booster yesterday in Carlow, took about an hour queuing, well organised I thought. The man in front of me only found out he needed photo ID when he was almost at the registration booths. They urged him to go home to get it and come straight back and he wouldn't have to queue again so hopefully it worked out for him.
This photo ID thing sounds like those crack HSE systems are working at their integrated best. Why not just ask for the vaccine passport? Why not just use the PPSN? That's all the pharmacist asked us for, tbf it was our local pharmacy and we were well known to them. Oh and we brought our vaccine certs with us anyway, but they didn't look at those (as I recall.)
Are they asking for utility bills, too?
Please get the booster, but damn it shouldn't be difficult to do.
where is this evidence? Can you show please
Unfortunately we have a lot of slow learners and the only way to deal with them is to lock down everyone. If anti-vaxxers and the like actually behaved then we wouldn't need the lockdowns. But for some reason they love lockdowns so much they deliberately push everyone else into them
Got mine last week. Fortunate to be in a country where you can receive optimal protection for you and others for free. Minor muscle aches after which is a tiny price to pay for potentially helping me and others.
one of our gp's here in the northwest fid a walkin last Thursday he jabbed 675 people in 3 hours (well his team did!)
Aren’t they all?
Sorry, that is bullshit. We are one of the vaccinated countries in the world, there will always be people unvaccinated so is your plan to always have lockdowns because of a tiny percentage of people.
He's on leave today, appointment with the local car dealership.
Greystones MVC only managed 200/hour over the weekend!
In fairness the amount of adults not vaccinated here is so small as to be negligible.
My wife and I both got the Moderna booster yesterday. I am fine, not a bother. Arm a tad sore and some joint aches today but nothing to talk about.
My wife was not so lucky. She came down with some bad chills last night, shaking uncontrollably and was cold/clammy to touch for a couple hours. Nearly brought her to hospital. Had her next to the coal fire, wrapped up, 2 hot water bottles and some hot porridge to try and warm her up. Eventually the shaking subsided and she went off to bed, only to get a fever and sweats for the next 4 hours or so.
Is the booster the exact same as the 2 doses of Moderna she had got before?
I don't expect she'll be taking another covid vaccine after that reaction.
Didn't think many people in Ireland got Moderna first time round.
I will. In my unexpert opinion this is now endemic. It's not going away and I am going to contract it sooner or later. Vaxx & boosters reduce the risk of a bad outcome. So it's a yes for me this time anyway.
Jesus that sounds rough, I can apply today age wise but will stick with 2 jabs for now unless people start dropping like flies
The Moderna booster is only half the dose of the previous 2. Probably trying to cut down the side effects,.
Not to sound anti-vax, but is the HSE or anybody logging incidents of adverse reactions?
apparently they were letting eople in their cars and letting the sit in there for the 15 mins
Moderna booster (Spikevax) is only a half dose (0.25 mL). The primary course doses were each 0.5 mL.
I believe you can call the HSE Live number and report adverse reactions.
Seems bizarre that she'd be fine with previous 2 and then very unwell on the 3rd one.
100% taking a booster, to not do so is irresponsible and selfish
Having a reaction is a very good thing with a vaccine! It's defo working
Yes it does. I guess we don't know how the body will react at any given time.
Adverse Reactions in Clinical Trials
Adverse reactions reported in clinical trials following administration of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine include pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, myalgia, arthralgia, chills, nausea/vomiting, axillary swelling/tenderness, fever, swelling at the injection site, erythema at the injection site, and rash.
Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine EUA Fact Sheet for Health Care Providers (fda.gov)
Got the booster just there, 9mins from parking to out the door. Very efficient and well organised.
I hope I survive the night.
Got my Pfizer booster this morning from the GP, no mention of waiting around. Possibly because it was the same as the first two doses so no risk of immediate bad reaction, although that assumes they knew I'd had Pfizer rather than J&J.
I got moderna twice
There's no waiting for boosters unless you've previously had a reaction, it's just in and out, unlike the first 2 doses.
Well you'll see that I said "anti vaxxers and the like". The latter includes people who won't obey public health recommendations and do simple things like wear face masks. And it also includes people like yourself who sneer at boosters
