Putting up some sheep wire today, how many staples should I put in each stake, there are 8 squares in the sheep wire
Generally abiut 4 id what I do
3 for me for the sheep wire

Top , bottom 3rd and 5th bar on first stake then top ,bottom 4th and 6th bar on next then alternate .
Will take 16 ,maybe 24 staples on end strainer plus usually tack each bar on intermediate strainers.
Assume its 8 80 15 ht wire or similar.
Where would ye recommend getting 8 80 15 wire, any place stand out as good value.
Hammer steeples home or leave gap?
It'd most likely depend on when suppliers purchased product. You'd have to do your homework on that.
Do not hammer staples home apart from end strainers .
The stakes are only there to support the wire .If a stake breaks then the wire will / should not loosen as its free to move .Plus driving them home can pinch the wire .
Also if you need to replace a stake in the future the much easier to pull staples without damage to the wire .

No need to hammer home anywhere. Tie wire off on strainers, strain and join in the middle of the stretch.

Generally use 4 staples with more used on the strainer. Hammered home on strainer but not on other posts. All staples are barbed staples which I think hold better in the post.
If your fencing is tams approved ensure that the sheep wire and barb wire and posts is tams approved. The seller would advise on this.
That means 8 gripples per pull plus using a centre pullers and chains instead of wrapping one end and pull with tractor. More expense really and most don't wrap/tie sheepwire correctly from what I see .
You're right, gripples are expensive, which is why I don't use them. It's not difficult to find examples of how to tie wire, plenty on youtube or tff, and it's free unless you want to buy a little twisty doohiky. Strainrite make great chain strainers. Don't own a tractor here so not relevant to my fencing.
I've 4 inches of half inch flat with two holes drilled in it to twist the wire, it leaves it very tidy, It really saves the hands too
We do the top wire,3rd wire,5th wire and the bottom two aswell....
5 on each post,gives a nice finish to it aswell imo
Top, bottom, two in the middle going low rather than high and that's where the pressure is when the bitches put their head through and pull back on the horns.
I drive until snug on the wire but not pulling the wire into the pole.
Wind will cut the wire with constant movement of left loose I think.
