Getting a booster next week. Would recommend you all do the same.
Some GPs did go through all of their patients earlier in the year, regardless of age. It actually makes the programme easier if that is what is happening now.

I got a text from gp asking to register for booster next week so I took appointment. Bit surprised to get offered one so quickly.
I got first two jabs in NI but managed to get them registered down here.

SA may have sufficient data to comment on the short term effects of the variant on a relatively young population and that is all. We have sufficient data to conclude that the vaccines have relatively few side effects for the vast majority of the population and that they reduce the possibility of you catching a lethal dose of the virus. A vaccinated population collectively represents a lower risk to our healthcare services and workforce from an economic point of view. But literally no one knows the long term effects of having had COVID or the vaccines or if there even are any.

Got it today, as I'm flying back to Ireland via UK in a week. I would feel stupid if I got covid and was sick in bed for a week knowing I had the option of a boost that does no harm and decided not to take it.
The vaccine does reduce massively reduce transmission, not complete prevention.

I was unwell after both jabs, nothing major but don't fancy it on the regular. We've no idea what cumulative effect it has on the body - there are no studies on it for obvious reasonsm
I'm not anti vax, again double jabbed, but not a chance I'll be running up for my booster when I can see no benefit for it?!

Why do you need an incentive? What are you trying to prove, or, what is it you're afraid of?
But to what extent does it lower transmission? 5% lower, 50%, 95% ?
No one can answer this and looking at the rates of transmission in our highly vaccinated country, I'd say its closer to 5% than 95%.
And that sort of reduction does not incentivise me to get the booster.
Apparently it's important to stop large numbers of people catching it within a very short space of time (because it spreads so fast), which would mean an increase in hospital admissions in the short term even if it is less serious for most. Personally I am pinning my hopes on Omnicron spreading and displacing Delta, and the vast majority of people developing natural immunity, and then we might have a way out of this pandemic. Having said that, I did get the booster, with some reluctance - my GP offered it and there was no waiting around in a queue so it was easily availed of.
That’s a valid point, but the experts are saying it’s too early to say omicron is milder or that it causes milder sickness.
But why is reduced transmission important at this stage? If as reported this new variant causes fewer health problems, should we not be allowing it to spread, given that majority of adult population are double vaccinated and if they do catch it will manage well and children cope with it well anyway. It doesn't add up.
Moderna booster also boosts. While it boosts antibodies 20 times, you still have just over half the protection you had against the original variant. This suggests that an Omicron customised booster might be wise.

Are you saying that, by preventing you from contracting the disease, thus removing you as potential spreader of the disease, vaccines aren't reducing transmission? Never claimed it would stop, just reduce. "Vaccines would stop transmission" sounds like a strawman to justify not getting a booster.
I agree they work for serious illness/death prevention - but individual level, this crap that the vaccines is for everyone's safety and stops transmission needs to be dumped...
They have appreciably reduced serious illness and death. That's not really up for debate now and they've made a huge difference there and lives have been saved, but yes their results on transmission are not exactly brilliant at all. If 94% of adults were vaccinated against things like measles(the most infectious agent there is) or polio or smallpox transmission would fall off a cliff and would be found almost exclusively among the unvaccinated population.
Well in this aspect alone - they are doing a terrible job with 94% of adults vaccinated.

fair enough but a side effect is the societal benefit of reduced transmission.
