Everyone in those positions are rock solid company men
When you think about it...
The English, the Catholic Church, the EU, and now NPHET
We just seem to be a country who need to be told what to do by "our betters" (whoever that may be at the time). Worse, we actively criticise anyone who stands up against it.
We have to be one of the most docile and servile people on the planet!
It restricts the natural state of a child and thats before you consider potential respiratory issues which have a far higher chance of arising than covid does
Their greatest tactic in all of this was framing it into a situation of 'masks in schools' v 'close schools'. Deeply cynical as they know lots will comply based on fear of schools closing.
That and it was Micheal Martin's core (only?) commitment on taking office last year - reopen schools and keep them open!
No wonder then that reality has taken a backseat. It's about the only thing he HAS done.
Is there any solid scentific evidence that conclusively prove they have a postive effect on controlling the virus.
Even there was ,I would oppose them , kids should not have to mask just so eighty five year olds see another Christmas
Jesus Christ it's a bloody piece of cloth on their face not a weapons grade explosive. You'd swear the government are asking kids to move to a war torn nation like Yemen and live under the threat of constant car bombs or black hawk helicopter attack the way some people are reacting. First world problems rubbish.
Soon to follow will be vaccinate kids v masks...
What a dopey analogy
The overreaction is from those insisting there's "nothing to see here" when Covid is of little to no threat to the overwhelming majority of the kids in question...
... or their parents/relatives/friends for that matter!
Sort of the opposite really, at this stage with all vulnerable double and triple jabbed we should be moving away from masks and getting on with things, forcing masks on those who are known to be extremely low risk looks like the massive overreaction.
And people wonder at the " moving statues " craze of 1985 ?
This attitude to masking kids " because it might help " is no different to
" is there anything to be said for another mass "
All of you that are angry about kids having to wear masks must be really livid about the schools not being adequately ventilated, right?
Interesting
where did she say this ?
Didnt you hear the news ? They are now too well ventilated !
ny kids school have every fcuking window open couldn't be more ventilated
if you instead of pissing billions in PUP and subsidies away they could have installed ventilators for relatively nothing - yeah sure am.
Remember those lunatics in Sweden? Still no masks anywhere there and far lower cases than us. The experts there have been sceptical to them all along. These experts also claim that their cases are lower thanks to a degree of herd-immunity. Am I not right in saying that covid will always be with us? So our children are going to get it many times in their lifetimes. So why are we stopping them getting it now? It's not for their sake, it for others sake and that is a fundamentally corrupt idea. Curtail one person's freedoms for the sake of others. Is that the kind of country we want.
Sweden is different from the rest of western Europe in several ways. As well as the different response to the pandemic, the Swedes don't let snow storms ground their country to a halt.
So he is afraid that if he does his Job he'll be punished by the government so is staying out of it
My brother just told me that his kid's school in Sweden had to close as 85% of the teachers are out sick. Sweden have about 80% vaccine uptake and by rule of thumb they naturally social distance at the best of times.
Some people would have you think the swedes went around licking door handles for the last two years .. culturally they are different to us .. so what works for them won't work for us.
As for everyone saying that the Irish are going over board - I've just seen a headline that Germany will restrict entry to non-essential retail / cultural / entertainment venues to vaccinated only. Grass is greener and all that.
The Irish government's communications and twisted logic on some stuff has been appalling .. but a mask on a child for a couple of hours a day isn't a big deal and the whining and moaning I hear is all coming from parents - not the kids ....
Google "norma foley glasses cert" but to save you the hassle, here's one example:
https://www.corkbeo.ie/news/local-news/cork-doctors-practice-say-will-22334745
"It comes after Education Minister Norma Foley suggested GPs could write an exemption letter for children who wear glasses which could cause trouble for wearing a mask."
omg
I lived in Sweden for many years so I know exactly what they're like. I also recon about half the families I know in Sweden have had covid. The biggest difference between Sweden and Ireland during this pandemic has been the amount of insufferable scaremongering that our media has engaged in. There was a covid case in one of my children's class this week and most of the class were at home the next day. This wound't happen in Sweden. Don't people in Ireland realise that this is as good as it gets? Its not like something is going to happen at this stage to make it safer for us regarding covid, therefore we need to get on with it. And putting masks on children at this stage is just ratcheting the fear up another level. It's depressing.
Anyone who has had a loved one with cancer knows that our health system is a finite resource. The idea that the whole country has to live in fear, or even grind to a halt, because ICUs are near capacity is not in any way logical.
And as for parents being more worried than their children about masks. When I was going to school we sat with our coats on in freezing cold prefabs. But just because we didn't complain doesn't mean our parents shouldn't have.
I've seen Stockholm grind to a halt on more than one occasion :)
Lookit…. Just wear the masks……. It’s no big deal.
All you have here is unqualified idiots trying to impose their lunacy on people.
Take the qualified advice .
Jesus Christ. I get that you don't want your kid to wear a mask, but that is a horrible comment.
How so ?
Do you send every penny you earn that's not required for food and send it to starving people in Africa?
If not ,you are choosing not to help in extending someone's life
Just because someone can't live forever doesn't mean they shouldn't have the *right* to live forever.
I'm happy to put my life on hold and my kids lives on hold and destroy the economy if it means we can all live forever.
You trying to defend a nasty point of view you put across ... I'd suggest stepping away from the keyboard for a while.
my kids are wearing masks and minding themselves so my 80 year old mother is at less of a risk when I go to visit her in the nursing home and I hope to be able to have her company for a few years to come not for her to be a sacrificial lamb so my kid won't have to stick a mask on for a few hours
