I know what I know as well. The whole "my gay friend thinks/says" gets trotted out quite a lot on this site.
Well I honestly know several, and I am not trotting out some line. The people I know within your community know full well what is happening concerning the current trend to showcase your lifestyle all over the shop, and its not the case of me indoctrinating them into some sort of 'right wing' mindset. These people are highly educated people, they are police, solicitors, health care professionals. They are not stupid. They know how the game works, and the likes of those who work in advertising are well below their pay grade. They just want to be able to live, to not have it showcased for something else's agenda. That is what they say to me. And they know what I used to work at so I know what they are saying.

Yeah so what. Dunno why you claim you can speak for the majority of gay and lesbian people.
Isnt it mad too how all of your gay and lesbian friends have the exact same thoughts.

just watched it there, and its better than i thought it would be, nice story, well done, but i think its bringing 'Santy' too much into the real world, ...
Santa should be magical, but the last minute of that ad brought him into the real world a bit too much, it would have been better if it had been portrayed in more of a 'maybe a dream, maybe really happened' sequence...
The most telling word from the poster is "lifestyle".... Cause being gay is like choosing to play football or something.
Outside of the whole inclusion thing which I fully get. Why do individuals/ companies try to challenge the social norms or traditions to push an agenda.
If you want to portray a point at least be original and not offensive to a group or demographic who may have grown up with an image in this case santa clause as being married to a female. In 2021 right or wrong what's wrong with this image and why should we just accept him kissing a man ?
Again I have no other agenda and inclusion I fully support but i do wish agenda are supported by originality and not have to rely on challenging other people's beliefs for a reaction.

It's not a new thing at all. Even this ad was massively massively controversial back in 1971 and the company was 'boycotted' by the usual types.

I'm not challenging the gender of the kids I am asking why its needs to challenge the perception of an image in this case santa for millions of people since they were a child.
Again is that what we need now to promote companies ?
I didnt say the image was offensive. I asked why challenge an image that millions of people have regarding santa since childhood.
Is it a case now due to the nature if the kiss people who believe in one side in this case the norm for the last few generations cannot question the validity of the change without being muted as a bigot or a homophobe?

2021 has shown that obviously questioning traditions is socially unacceptable if it doesnt fit in with a certain demographic.
What does that even mean though. Every portrayal of gay men could be offensive to a certain deomgraphic. If we took that to its logical conclusion gay male sex and gay marriage would have offended a certain demographic so the norms should not have been challenged and they should never have been decriminalised/legalised.
But the ad has only managed to offend some idiots. The outlets running outrage segments on it are Russia Today and GB News. I'm not aware of any such outrage in Norway who are the target market. What's wrong with the image of Santa kissing a man? Eg Mrs Claus only came about in the sixties and it tended to vary in terms of if she had any prominence in the mythos. Eg I was raised in the nineties and I'm not sure if I was particularly aware of his marital status.
The modern day form of Santa was standardized by Coca Cola. They weren't the first to choose the suit colour but they popularised it. Even his physicality was standardized by them. So guess what, marketing is what set Santa's appearance in your head. His depiction and mythos has constantly changed and evolved. And I don't really see what huge impact him kissing a guy has on it.
Mad that an agenda of inclusion and tolerance in a pretty tasteful ad is being viewed as controversial...

Other parents - equally as good - avoid lying to their kids about many of those same things in order to guide them through then unpleasantness of the world and expose them to it in a controlled fashion. To steal a phrase I read on boards a long time ago - there is a different between maintaining childhood innocence and maintaining childhood ignorance. Children are incredibly robust and they often do not need to be protected from some of the things we protect them from.
So I would not see that approach as a "Vanity Project" to simply say - "I am open to lying to my kids when it makes sense to do so but only if I can justify doing that to myself for good reason at the time".
That is the approach I opted for. That does not mean I am any more or less a "good parent" that parents making the opposite choice. But it does not mean I am any more or less "vain" either.
Parenting is one of those things with many paths to the same destinations. I simply saw no gain or benefit from doing the Santa thing - let alone to justify an extended campaign of undermining my wish to not lie to them - so I simply did not do it. And there is literally nothing wrong with those that do or those of us who do not.

I find this argument fascinatingly lacking in self awareness. Hasn't Santa ways been sexualied? Hasn't he been in a heterosexual relationship and married to Mrs Claus?
The same argument was made with Spiderman's son being gay. People said Spiderman shouldn't be sexualised even though the story revolved around a key theme of his heterosexual relationship with Louis Lane.
What people mean when they say "X character shouldn't be sexualised" or "children shouldn't be exposed to sexualising characters" , is that they shouldn't be gay. They should only be sexualised as heterosexual. So why don't they just say that?...
They don’t say it because homophobes, misogynists, racists, transphobes and every other bigot out there hates to be called as such or admit that’s what they are.
There’s an awful lot of “nuance” out there and they use that as a comfort blanket to hide behind should anyone call them out on their bigotry.

You see I dont make the connection on homophobia or bigotry on this advert.
I couldnt give two shites if two men are kissing on TV more power to them and well done.
The issue I have is why norms or traditions altered for other agendas.
I for one welcome a more rounded society but I also respect boundaries beliefs of everyone which this Ad in my view doesn't.
And the fact I said it here and words like bigot etc were used.
It says a lot is all.
