Yeah I'd class the "stay at home unless you have reason X to be out" and limits to 2km or 5km to be a lockdown in the context of this thread. Running into Garda checkpoints going to the shops.
I'm aware that in other countries they were much harsher at enforcing the "reason X to be out" with army etc, maybe even only letting one person out per household to shop.
But this thread is "will there be another lockdown", so we have to assume we had at least one already.
Pubs, schools shut isn't a lockdown, or being free to be out and about within your own county.
It depends entirely on your own personal circumstances though.
My family live in a different county. If cross county travel were to be closed off, that means I can't see my family. Certainly feels like a lockdown.
I'd agree. We are really talking about Level 5 or at least 4+.
It's a **** (insert expletive X in your own mind) state of affairs, but is it a lockdown?
But then I see the Collins dictionary picked Lockdown as its 2020 word of the year as defined it as:
"the imposition of stringent restrictions on travel, social interaction, and access to public spaces".
So by that definition, what you have described could be a be a regional lockdown.
I think we need some specific word for that "stay at home" / need a reason to leave home level of restrictions, which to me is a lockdown. As in the most severe level of restrictions deployed here (hopefully past tense). So what to call that if not a 'lockdown'?

I see the "we were never really in a lockdown" stuff is back.
That was tiresome in June 2020 tbh
Yes, a booster lockdown. Think you've just helped coin a new phrase. The media would love it😄
Will you just FUC OFF believing and spreading this utter GARBAGE.
suppose it said it was "a source in the hse"
Christ, we give decent education to people yet they become brainless twits sometimes and far right scum are playing those who are sucking it up and believing it
Much to the amusement of the deniers here, yes today and yesterday business's received emails from the government informing them lockdown will likely occur between the 13th and 20th December and business should prepare for such an occurrence.
Smashing
No they didn't.
Don't worry, like most of the things in your posts, it didn't happen.
They did. They also had to reply with their bank details 😜
1/10 , try harder next time.
Who'd fall for that?
(Reads up on HSE cyber attack)
Oh.
At least no one believed him.......
The dogs on the street knew there was some sort of lockdown coming a week before it was announced. It was inevitable as the virus was just hitting our shores. I was off work for a few days for Cheltenham the week prior to lockdown and even before that we were being told to take our laptop home every evening for fear we wouldn't be allowed in the next day.
Dec 16th is bollocks as is any other date that's been thrown out. If there is a lockdown then Government won't be planning the date 3 weeks in advance. It'll be somewhat instantaneous that it will come in - within days.
Are teachers actually being told by the Dept of Education that schools are going to close?
To Enter name here - do not post claims like this without substantiation
To everyone - please do not believe such claims when a poster does not present a shred of evidence
Apologies for not reading the majority of this thread, and if similar was already posted. Friend owns a golf course with a bar (of course), txtd me saying that the VFI sent a letter telling him not to do an Xmas stock up and to "pay attention" to the updates from govt. Last time that letter was sent the pubs were shut. VFI also advised to cancel all party bookings. Make of it what you will.
I thought Level 4 didn't exist 😉
We just went from 3 to 5.
No. That is not happening.
I am sure they are considering what they would do in various scenarios, but they would not/could not take any decision until much nearer the time, as we really do not fully understand where we will be in 2 or 3 weeks time. Equally they do need to evaluate the options, one of which may well be a lockdown, but that may be way down the list for all we know. That's just sensible planning
It existed for 6 days in Donegal.
€500 fine for going to the airport with intention to leave the island, that’s lockdown in my book.
I haven’t kept up with the last few pages, not sure who we are blaming right now? But do we still hate the double vaxxed nurse who traveled from virus free Australia to take up a job as a hse nurse in Sligo? I know we imprisoned her and her kids, did we ever let them go?
All of those roadmap were ignored or changed. It has never been said by anyone in nphet/the government (same thing) that life will ever go back to normal. Always either 'a semblance of normality' and/or 'a degree of normality'.
Should probably be renamed the third hand information thread at this stage
Getting too late in the day for another lockdown.Another election is due in 2 years and voters have a long memory or is that a short memory.Vote green to be free!!!
Because things change rapidly with this pandemic. Ergo, you aren’t going to say definitively that restrictions will come into force in 3 weeks time.
It’s going to be (and has been) more fluid than that.
The alternative explanation is that they never had any intention of relaxing restrictions.
Why would that be the case?
