No a lockdown is when you need a reason to be outside your house, when there's Garda checkpoints seeing if you've gone beyond your 5 km.
The above are restrictions, something like the old Level 3, but it's not a lockdown. A lock out maybe!
The Government seems determined to destroy the Hospitality sector for some reason.
They're not considering a lockdown now, but let's see when NPHET gives their "advice" on Thursday.
Let's hope its similar to the advice for the 22nd Oct where NPHET threw the ball into the governments Court

You do realise the decision last week about midnight closing etc was a government decision and NPHET made no recommendations about hospitality. So do the government have a great distan for it too ?

The government are looking from the sidelines at how the rest of Europe is reacting to greater restrictions. The various riots etc will make them nervous about reintroducing impositions, but they could also use the argument “Our restrictions are not as bad as over there, aren’t you lucky to be in lockdown here, and don’t be thinking you can get away by travelling to sunny X where you can enjoy yourself to your heart’s content outdoors”.

The government aren't above pandering to pubs... measures like MUP for example... but I think they are more concerned about the grey vote and the school parents votes than the pub goer vote, when it comes to priorities it's not seen as essential. I'd say they don't want to be paying out all that PUP again though.

How can 5% hold 95% to ransom? Not possible government just needs someone to blame for the in effective vaccine, they rushed everything and now its failing. I am all for locking up the un vaxed as then the figures would be real Unvaxed all locked up and vaxed figures rising like mad would be perfect and then the real message would be there for everyone to see.. the vaccine wanes every 6 months the mutations in the virus are faster than the vaccines so they cant work. The government can inject us weekly for the rest of our lives do you want that?

The insufficient capacity in our hospital systems is the major factor for me. And we've known about that for decades. We can't even build hospitals efficiently...
I agree Cluedo blame the un vaxed because despite taking huge wages the health ministers have failed miserably for decades and their failure is now so obvious they must find a scapegoat and 5 % of the population are just that.

Between 1st April and 13th November. 63% of people admitted to ICU with Covid were unaccented !! 63%
Even now with vaccine efficacy waning its almost 40%..
5% of the population are taking 40% of ICU beds.. The lack of ICU beds is putting the entire health service at rick. Its delaying treatments to thousands fo people, delaying cancer diagnosis, delaying treatments, thousands of operations being cancelled.
That's one (the simplest and most obvious) way how 5% of the population are threatening the other 95%
And that's ignoring the higher transmission rates by vaccinated people do the extended period in which they shed viral particles.
The Nazis banned all state supports for vaccines ... cant be going around protecting the weak and vulnerable... survival of the fittest and all that.
I think a fascist government here would have no trouble denying hospital entry to the unvaccinated... if that was how they judged it.
Instead we have our government trying to nudge unvaccinated into getting the vaccine by such measures as denying entry to the pub. So that the undue burden they place on ICU capacity can be lessened. And thats the most tractable thing our government can do right now to reduce severe covid cases... short of more restrictions such as shutting those pubs down for all. Nothing remotely fascist about it.

I think rather than threatening the unvaccinated, more efforts should be made to understand their reluctance and try and rationally convince them that vaccines and regular boosters are the best option. I know unvaccinated people are all the media scaremongering is making them more entrenched in their views.
Again, before the mob attack me, I am fully vaccinated and fully intend to get boosters. I recommend everyone to do the same.

Are there any more stark examples of the implications of refusal of a vaccine than full ICUs, cancelled life saving operations, and yes, probable lockdowns? What more can be done for these people?
Well a friend of mine lost her mother at 54 due to a massive heart attack. She also lost her auntie at 60 or 61, cant remember. She does not want to take a booster because she is worried about the possibility of heart issues (e.g. myocarditis). Should I patronise the hell out of her point her to the well published benefits of vaccines and tell her to cop the fcuk on etc etc. No, I wont. It's up to her and I respect whatever decision she makes.
