The Government needs to come down hard on the mongs who wont take the vaccine. Enough is enough.
You left out, "not cautious, unvaccinated and not bothered." Plenty of those about.
It would be interesting to see if polled what percentage of the unvaccinated-by-choice would accept being ordered into a lockdown based on their choice to remain unvaccinated.
Unlike some, I think the number would be very low, compliance even lower, and there would be total uproar, (and the ususal suspects shouting about their freedoms being stolen, blah blah blah).
I find a lot of posters here and in the public generally who complain constantly about the restrictions are in the zone of conspiracy theory themselves and don't even seem to realise it.
Look at all the garbage posted daily about NPHET or the government or masks or whatever.
They think someone is out to get them. Why? Don't know. That's what it boils down to.
The line between them and a Gemma O'Doherty or John Waters is not as sharp as they'd like to think from some of the stuff I read here.
It's not every poster with complaints but it's a good number that are probably unwittingly promoting conspiracy.
If everyone pulled together we'd be out of this a lot quicker.
Whether there will be another lockdown or not is not a prediction about what will actually happen in the near future. Its not about Conspiracy theories about Joe the government hates pubs or ways to lock down the country in accordance with whatever conspiracy.
This discussion doesn't need any reference to conspiracy theories.
Nice. You said there are a sub group who can’t get vaccinated even though they want to, what group are not able to get a vaccine?
Sorry, mód or not, your powers have limits. I can't give you all of their names. For GDPR reasons.
If covid is the new reality, then living with covid means getting 500 more ICUs online, and building 20 new hospital, this is living with covid.
Who can’t get vaccinated?
There are, and have been since day one of vaccinations, two camps within vaccinated and unvaccinated. And it suits both vaccinated and unvaccinated, at times, to quote one half of the 'opponent' without taking things in the round.
Cautious and carefree vaccinated.
Cautious and antivax unvaccinated.
In fact, the cautious unvaccinated could further be subgrouped into cautious unvaccinated and would love to be, but can't, unvaccinated.
It is rational to say that there are quite a number who have taken the vaccine out of fear, others out of duty, others out of getting the Superman bulletproof vest and gladrags pass. Too many wrapping themselves in the flag of protecting others when their social behaviour says otherwise. Granted, the actions of not getting vaccinated can strike the vaccinated as extraordinarily puzzling and , likely, uncaring. But that's clearly not the case across the board.
Life is grey, not black and white.
It would be ideal, though also in the realms of eccentricity, if you could push that vaccination rate up to say 103 or 107% and give that virus a good old seeing to. But, then we'd be out of ammunition and what would we do?
No, you're right we'll target 100 and damn those unvaccinated disease hounds.
Ps good post apart from that tired % cliché.
Do you know if he sought help, or are you assuming others should have known?
I'm not a regular poster on this site but your comment regarding 'mental health card' struck a chord with me. A dad of a child in my sons class in senior infants died by suicide December last year, he has a sister in 2nd class and another brother in fifth. Their dad had a relatively successful small business which was growing pre covid and he took on a fair amount of borrowing. He tried to keep it going and pay staff for as long as he could but business collapsed. I don't know the full details but he was saddled with heavy debt and an awful lot of stress. Their mum ended up in care a few months after for a lengthy period. "Mental health card", all in this together. Ireland and its people for all the caring and friendly reputation we love to shout about is a load of bollocks really deep down, this whole covid catastrophe has exposed this, talk of hotlines reporting people being the latest example...sickening.
No it isn't.
Read the thread title, it's based on a "conspiracy theory"
I'm not saying they shouldn't get vaccinated, I'm referring to it as a cohort in ICU that isn't there simply because they're selfish.
The article you linked supports the advice for pregnant women to get vaccinated. Most pregnant women in ICU with Covid are unvaccinated and do not have underlying conditions. As the vaccine is not contraindicated, the decision to to have one would appear to be just personal choice.
What point are you trying to make?
It hasn't been a cold for some people though, but my point is that they're not following guidelines! but because they've been vaccinated it's like they are seen as better people than the awful, selfish unvaccinated people!
I'm not in favour of lockdowns, I just think if they want to lockdown the unvaccinated (which includes me) then get on with it, then people will see it's not making any real difference and they can stop pointing the finger of blame!
In fairness it probably is just a cold, many people simply won’t take 3 days off work for PCR test. It’s a shame Nphet spent the last two years saying testing was “snake oil” in almost every other country they test for Covid, even the slightest doubt and you do an antigen test, get an instant result if you are contagious or not and keep testing if in doubt.
If we lock the country down every time someone sneezes, we’ll never get back to normal.
Sadly there is a significant minority who won't obey the rules or use reasonable caution who spoil it for everyone.
My issue is that being vaccinated is seen as the gold star, the ultimate proof of being "actively part of the solution" but some vaccinated people are going out with covid symptoms saying "it's just a cold", they're constantly out and about socialising, they're not wearing masks properly and so on. Some got the vaccine so that they could go out, it wasn't because they cared about risking the health and wellbeing of others, it was so that they could go out as much as they wanted during a pandemic, it's actually the opposite of caring about risking the health and wellbeing of other people. Their reasons for getting it were entirely for themselves so they could have the cert! People think they can tell all about a persons morals or concern for others by their vaccination status. They can't!
I genuinely don't care if they lock down the unvaccinated for a while, as I said in a previous post it's not going to make any meaningful difference, and perhaps then people can look at the overall behaviour of everyone else instead of blaming it all on the unvaccinated. Blaming it on the unvaccinated is enabling the problem further too.
They have suffered, as have people with covid and loved ones of the ill dead and dying because of covid ... if you are not actively being part of the solution... you are enabling the problem further and risking the health and wellbeing of people....
i had to forego access to physiotherapy and going to the gym during covid as I recover from something... never once did I piss and moan, or attempt to throw anybody else’s wellbeing under the bus.... i simply thought outside the box walked daily, exercising on my bike, floor mat, bosu ball, did online classes... aka being responsible... i was safe, so was everybody around me.
I know restrictions in one Dublin Hospital have been in place for months.
Seems like hospital visiting restrictions are being put back in place in some hospitals from today.
Have you something to support that, or are you just guessing?
How could I guess that pregnant people are in hospital with COVID-19.
Nearly 10% of ICU Covid patients are pregnant - doctor (rte.ie)
Covid vaccination is not contraindicated during pregnancy.
Right but it isn't a selfish choice or a desire to not do one's "bit" in this case.
Mental health card?
You must not be living in the real world if you don't think that people have suffered from mental health issues as a result of their lives being changed so drastically and having most of their coping mechanisms being taken away! Many people tried to manage it with exercise, hobbies, socialising, seeing therapists, walks on the beach (not allowed unless you lived within 2km of the beach at one point).
Mental health charities reported a huge increase in demand due to covid!
Being found out? 🙄 such nonsense
That was temporary, and very short lived. Outside of these short lived restrictions France has been far more open that Ireland.
That doesn't mean that we didn't have a lockdown or that our restrictions were at worst "mildly irritating".
Indias police force has long been accused of human rights violations even before covid.
Even personal decisions may not be selfish decisions. For example some significant proportion in hospital are pregnant women.
It was mildly irritating for some, very frustrating for others.
The ‘mental health’ card gladly isn’t opening many doors for people because as I’ve been preaching for a time...people doing that are and have been found out...
” sorry I don’t want to pay for my groceries today as it will affect my mental health “
” sorry I’m not going to adhere to stopping at red lights driving today as it will affect my mental health “
aka... people believe they have a credible reason not to be team players and having to think about the welfare of others.. been found out.
