Yeah I think the numbers are useful but totally different situation to last year because so many more people gave getbthe virus without filling up the ICUs.
Lots of other numbers are important such as vaccination rate and working out what impact would come from every additional percentage of the population who gets the vaccine.
But ICU and death numbers and rates are probably the most important things to whether restrictions are necessary or not.
It’s here for ever so surely high numbers are a good thing? Spread the antibodies no?
should we ignore the numbers and focus on icu only?
I think if you read the posts, you'll see thst most people think there won't be need for a lockdown again. But far more people accept that ther might be need for some restrictions. Just going be the actual posts.
Are you considering restrictions the same as lockdown?
Ok.
Sorry if this has been discussed at nauseum already but I didn't realise the extent to which Israel had crushed the 4th wave. 7 day average of cases gone from 9,000 in mid Sept to 468 the most recemt date I could find. Thats a 94% drop or something. Is that solely through boosters or what's the concensus?
Doesn't matter who's talking about it now. Lockdown by January will happen. If you can see it coming well then you have learned nothing in 2 years.
No, according to this thread lockdown is at the forefront of every conversation. There's no way this echo chamber is peddling disinformation that in no way reflects the real world ..........
The people suggesting this are absolute idiots and they don't think beyond virtue signaling
Very few talking about lockdown. Lots of people accept that some restrictions might become necessary over this winter.
Cases in the over 80s have been declining, now at about 2% of cases, and that will happen with the over 70s once they get their boosters and then the over 60s and other groups.
Have the vaccinated not contributed to their condition too?
This is true. I was in Spain the other day and jumped into a shop for water after a run. Had gone without my mask, wasn't thinking, so tried to cover my nose with my t-shirt. The shop assistant at the counter absolutely destroyed me over it, and rightly so. I was chancing my arm. In the same store I saw a British lady enter with no mask and locals took the head off her in the shop for it.
Here we hate confrontation and wouldn't dream of doing such a thing, only mutter under our breath about it. Or if you did challenge someone for not wearing a mask in a shop you would end up with a fist to your jaw.
Ps Spain was a joy to behold on the Covid front. No digital certs, no contact tracing logs. Some hand sanitiser, masks and signs, but not overly abundant.
Living with covid means having control over the thing and that's something we don't have.
Who's talking about lockdown except the doom and gloom merchants on here?
When we're allowed 'live with covid' and there's no more talk of lockdowns and restrictions but that's not happing anytime soon
Where does all this end? Lockdowns don't work, people don't care and they will do what they want regardless of any restrictions or lockdown. Blaming the unvaccinated is a bit unfair when vaccinated can also spread it but not blame idiots wearing masks under nose, and still not enough being done about ventilation either.
Field hospital for the unvaccinated. Or they stay at home and get sent out a homepack of steroids, antibiotics and maybe the ivermectin that they are so fond of.
The media seem to have jumped on lockdown for the headline about any restriction. Lockdown surely is a very specific meaning - the phase where you cant leave your home without a specific purpose.
Pubs or schools shut is not a lockdown though it is a high level of restriction.
Another Lockdown would be an admittance That in Ireland living with covid is not possible and people not afraid of the virus are at a disadvantage
can we enforce a law where skinny people get priority icu beds... fat people don't care about their health - they should be punished !!!!!..perhaps no icu beds for people who drink.it's your own fault your livers failing luv ....
i hate you people 🤡
I ain't arguing with ya or indeed the government/nphet.
Just giving my opinion based on what I am seeing.
Well to be fair that actually would be reasonable.
If 1 space is left in ICU and 2 patients need to be admitted, 1 vaccinated and the other not it would only be right that the vaccinated person is given priority.
This of course is not a situation anyone would like to see and we can only hope that ICU capacity is increased going forward.
So are headed for semi permanent or rolling lockdowns? What’s the end game? Covid is not going away.
At least we'll have the Guinness nitrosurge cans this time eh?
Immunity seems to last for around 6 months for the first two vaccine doses. So a third shot should probably boost the immunity to last for another six months.
You are correct to identify that vulnerable will never have enough protection. Which is why society encourages the elderly to get a new influenza vaccine every year since immunity can wain.
It would make sense that any unvaxed shouldn't be given a place in ICU if spaces are few. They have contributed to their situation like alcoholics being put down the list for liver transplants or smokers with transplants.
Most people won't bother though. It costs a fiver or less, but they won't bother. ''Ah sure tis only a bit of sniffle because of de change in de weather.'' The Irish by and large need these things to be policed. You would think the experience of the last 20 months would have taught us to use a bit of cop on, but no. The average person will walk into a packed pub instead of changing their plans because there's nobody to stop them. The average parent will bring their maskless coughing 10 year old shopping because there's nobody to stop them. Lockdown here we come.
I heard that one before, the vulnerable have their vaccines.
Two, now three vaccines are needed. Then four. The vulnerable will never have enough protection.
Unless the hospital system gets close to being overwhelmed you will find the chances of another lockdown taking place is slim.
A huge number of people simply won't comply due to general COVID fatigue and the most vulnerable should have third jabs in their arms.
