OK. I'm not big into the conspiracy theories about NPHET.
I think asking will there be another "lockdown" is the wrong word. We have never had a "lockdown".
There will probably be a resumption of some restrictions soon because the situation is deteriorating quite quickly now.
It will be interesting to see what happens.
I see Austria is pondering a total lockdown for the unvaccinated and un-recovered with a decision there on Sunday.
Difficult to enforce but a lockdown of the unvaccinated would be a good idea.
They will have to roll back on some of the more recent restrictions that were lifted and possibly on the work from home advice that has been in place since September. Schools will remain open etc and it's unlikely there will be movement restrictions put in place.
There's literally no way, with numbers up in the 5000 today and up in the 3ks the few days before that the hospital's won't become overwhelmed without some intervention and unfortunately we've not really managed to add much capacity to our hospitals in the past 20 months. That ultimately dictates what we do and when we do it.

We may all get it but ICU is ten times more likely (approx) if you are non vaccinated.
A whole lot of this would require new legislation. To do that firstly you need a government that is interested in doing these things when it's pretty much not. You also need time to draft and publish a bill to actually go through the Dail to be enacted. Timewise you would be talking about next Spring anyway to get half of this stuff done but only if the government decides to pursue any of them.
That whole thing about Christmas antigen testing sounds absolutely antisocial but hey if that's how you want Christmas to work, best of luck with that.
Finally, you really need to produce some form of evidence that shows that gyms and hairdressers are hotbeds of disease. There's no indication from anywhere that they are and the reference to them only emerged just because somebody asked a question at the briefing. The initial noises from government suggest they're not even entertaining the idea of extending the certs any further and certainly not to areas which form a part of people’s lives.
When does this end though. This is like the common flu. Its here to stay forever more.

I won't be enacting any restrictions at any point. But IF things deteriorate similar to last year, then restrictions will simply become necessary.
I think people's tolerance for living with covid is going up and the treatments and vaccinations are improving. So it might not be necessary at all, but it might also be necessary for this year or even the next few years. Depends on lots of variables.
Well my personal opinion is that protecting people now when people are vaccinated is silly. The general population should be introduced to it to build immunity.
Now that might sound nuts but what's the long term plan here.

I think it's a great idea. With the added bonus of being quite funny tbh.
Massive fines for any establishments not ensuring the unvaccinated get in (same as ID on anywhere that serves alcohol), and large fines or a strike system for those that break the rules. That should push some on the fence over to get vaccinated. Putting everyone else's health at risk with their BS.
Cross check the unvaxxed for bench warrants and expired visas.
Stop medical cards and jobseekers benefit and pup will take care of most of the rest!

It would be kinder to simply deny unvaxxed whom fall ill with covid access to hospital. But that's also incredibly bad.
It's becoming ever harder to take the moral high ground with the unvaccinated particularly when you consider the nature of the dwindling tiny minority who refuse to be vaccinated.
Sure, there is a subset of people with sincere concerns about putting anything in to their bodies but there is also an ever increasing subset of selfish conspiracy theorist nuts who make up the numbers.
They inject (pardon the pun) an element of risk in to this entire dilemma that should not be tolerated much longer imo.

Sit your kids down. Explain to them all the possible side effects including lifelong effects before they give consent.
But also explain that if they refuse they could be ostracized.
The trouble is locking up the unvaccinated wont stop new waves. The number of unvaccinated in Ireland is just too small* and vaccines just don't have a huge impact on transmissions is too weak.
It seems to me that vaccine rates might be overestimates because no one knows the true size of Irish population. This is the case in the UK.

But ultimately it will come down to a lot of variables including but not limited to, vaccination efficacy and uptake, treatment efficacy, ICU capacity, mutations in the vitus and people's willingness to tolerate deaths. Those things are growing and I don't think there will be a lockdown this year. But I think there will likely be restrictions.
So all the unvaxxed have been in complete lockdown. They adhere 100% . Yet still the virus spreads and hospitals fill up with vaxxed. What then? Just leave them there? How long? Six months? One year? More?
Where does that lead society. A grim future.
Have you taken that approach with your own kids?
Unless the hospital system gets close to being overwhelmed you will find the chances of another lockdown taking place is slim.
A huge number of people simply won't comply due to general COVID fatigue and the most vulnerable should have third jabs in their arms.
