I charge to 90% before my commute just before i leave. Otherwise we plug in below 30 and charge to 80.
I'm up for a few days also. The fast charger at castlebellingham northbound wasn't working yesterday. I already had a bit of northern Ireland range anxiety so that didn't help! Anyway had loads to get to belfast and spent a few hours there wandering around so go the car charged upto 82% before moving upto the north coast.
Email worked for me - I sent email to levti@eflow.ie on the 15th of October and got a reply this morning to say that they have successfully set me up for BEV discount and will retro-apply discount in the next billing.
Make sure you check your bills. I had the email and confirmation back in July and am still chasing them for the discounts. The trips I made in August have not been credited to my account yet.
re I'm getting a OBD dongle today and android phone and will use evnotify which should tell me a lot more about regen, battery heater etc.
Where is the plug in for the dongle?
Is ev notify a paid app?
Barbican Banbridge was free for a quick 30mins while we had a break and cup of tea. Titanic quarter car park has a couple of 3kw chargers and thankfully one was free so that will be us sorted for the evening, will be 100% leaving tomorrow.
Winter is def here. Left with preheated to 20c car, drove in total 54km on hilly cork roads with a bit of town driving - used 19%! Reported consumption - 16.2kWh/100km. Av speed 38kmh, time 1h24min. So extrapolating the range to 100% - 284km. On motorway speeds I probably won't have more than 200km range. Not good...

I got the below Bluetooth OBD dongle on Amazon and it doesn't appear to work, It feels like it doesn't fit properly into the socket.
Anyone got one that actually works ? that has used it themselves on their own id3 ?

Yes but it's not really that bad
The maximum charge a battery can take is a factor of the size of the battery. Bigger battery = faster max charging
But, charging slower than the max speed is better for battery health, so AC charging is better than DC
In practice it doesn't seem to have made a huge difference to most cars. The charging curve on the ID cars is fairly conservative, so it shouldn't be too hard on the battery
For example, a lithium battery can often be charged at over twice the capacity
So a 62kWh ID.3 can in theory charge at 124kW. But it's limited to 100kW for the time being, so the battery won't be getting stressed out
Also remember the battery has 62kWh total capacity but only 58kWh usable? That ensures that even when you charge to 100%, the battery isn't really full, giving it more protection
Anyone else seen this message? Came up this morning after I had asked the app to pre-heat the car. When I got into the car the heating was on but not the seat or steering heating.Not sure it’s a problem or a one off, will check again in the morning.

There are so many things to effect battery life I wouldn't worry about them really except not charging over 80% if you don't need to or in my case if in work I suck as much energy as I can and charge to 100% as much as I can because I'll be using 13-20% of that by the time I get home and same again by the time I get back so it's no big deal.
I believe VW are being too conservative in relation to fast charging the id3/4 that I wouldn't worry about it, the charging curve is not very good in this day and age really if you ask me. Especially the 77 Kwh batteries because as far as I'm aware, the charging curve is the same on the 58 Kwh vs 77 Kwh.
I would be good if they allowed max charging power for longer at least until 60% that would make a big difference.
It would be great if they allowed more power for longer via OTA updates once they have more data in as to the impact of fast charging but I expect they won't, if anything they'd lower it before they'd increase it lol.
But, the battery chemistry dictates how much Kw you can dump into the battery, internal resistance and so on and if designed to take this power and temperature can be kept low enough then fast charging should have absolutely no negative impact what-so-ever.
In the early days of the first Nissan Leafs the negative impact was more related to heat even though fast charging on the 24 Kwh Leaf hardly got over 35 Kw for most of the charge it was one of the most sensitive chemistries to heat but it was also one of the safest which I'm sure was the top priority at the time for the first mass produced electric vehicle.
Today EV batteries are much larger and so cycling will have much less of an impact but cycling shouldn't matter too much depending on how robust the chemistry is for instance, after nearly 134,000 Kms in my BMW i3 94 Ah, the battery showed absolutely no sign of degradation over the same commute, conditions which I find absolutely amazing, I remember reading the specs for the battery cells from Samsung at the time and saying "yeah right" but I believe them now!
I expect that with the 77 Kwh id.3 I will fast charge maybe 5 times a year or less and I'm mighty glad I chose the largest Kwh id3 the difference compared to any other EV I had is enormous!

Had anybody got any recommendations for a boot liner for an ID3? One that would protect the paint work while a dog gets in or out of the boot is required. Thanks.

Unfortunately Travel assist is not available even as an option on trims that doesn't have it.
As far as I can see the Executive, Tech, Max, Tour and Tour 5 have Travel assist.
If you can justify having it if you do lots of Kms like I do or just want to chill more on the motorway it's definitely worth having, I love it and would find it difficult not having it now. For my Commute along the M9 from Carlow to Dublin I hardly have to do anything just tap the wheel when it Bugs me and keep an eye on things and watch cars jumping lanes quickly and when traffic slows down fast from say 100 Km/hr to 50, don't trust it yet lol but it's better to be safe than sorry because the car can't see the traffic slowing ahead, it can only see the car in front but it works very well at slowing and coming to a complete stop in most circumstances.
In crawling traffic you don't have to touch the wheel at all from around 10 Km/hr and below. Once the car is stopped for 15-20 seconds you have to tap the accelerator to get it to move again, then it takes over.
It will be interesting to see if OTA updates change how it performs in the future.
There are two types of boot liner available from vw. One is flexible and one of a more solid type. Got the flexible one myself. Nice fit.
Alot of that is available in standard lane assist though.
Travel assist’s main thing is lane centering. If that’s important to you then fair enough but the rest is standard lane assist which all ID.3’s have, I think.
Re OBD Dongle.
I'm using my OBDeleven one it works perfectly.
OBDeleven recognised the car reads everything,inc HV battery it does not however allow you to do any coding ,run any apps ,switch on any features etc etc.
It won't even allow you to monitor live data/inputs etc.
This is common to ALL new VAG group cars it's called SDP or suchlike ( software diagnostic protection or summatt ).
There is no DIY programming tool available as yet for these cars,I doubt there's even a commercial option other than VAGS own diagnostic available.
If anything changes ROSSTECH/OBDeleven will be first out of the traps,but it's gonna be a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time before we'll be able to just switch stuff on...if ever.
