A majority of the electorate are against an open border policy. Seems fair.
Stark like the Fine Gael one where the members voted for Coveney 2 to 1 but got Varadkar.
I personally know people from all walks support all parties. Sounds healthy to me.
Who is "Wendy Lyon", and what sort of a person is she, that may or may not make them be excluded from being an 'activist" for any political party might I ask?
Didn't I read on here fairly recently about how SF had "an open border policy", now I'm reading about voters apparently being the highest number polled against taking in migrants, seemingly voting for a party who are all for open borders apparently.
As a voter looking a new home for their vote, I'm now all confused.....
But surely you can see how the two things don't add up?
I definitely see how it doesn't add up.
Because a lot of SF supporters don't know about this policy because they don't read up.
They just see nice soundbites in the news and think SF have all the answers like free gaffs for everyone.
So people are voting SF because they have an issue with immigrants and don't know SF don't? Or people are voting for SF because they don't have an issue with immigrants and don't know SF do? 🤒
I would suggest people have key issues they feel strongly about and vote accordingly based on party policy.
A load of Sinn Feins supporter's are supporting them, yet don't know Sinn Fein are immigration friendly (for want of a better description)? - not very plausible in my mind.
But then again, FG allude to a housing crises a hell of a lot of its supporters claim doesn't exist, so anything is possible I suppose.
I'd say alot of FG supporters are extremely right wing.
How does building 1600 Build to Rent units make the housing crisis worse?
David McWilliams made the point in his podcast if that was the case go and demolish 1600 units to make the housing crisis better.... which of course is nonsense.
Lots of bingo soundbites but no substance when it's scrutinised.
Never mind the fact that in NI, SF vote FOR, yes FOR build to rent units in Belfast. Odd eh?
Oh yea, that's right SF is in government in the North.
In fairness you asked for evidence of a claim and evidence was presented.
The fact that it backs up the claim that SF voters are:
a) More anti-vax
b) More anti-immigrant
It is pretty clear cut. Waving of hands and gnashing of teeth won't change it.
That is a problem for SF the party. It confirms to me that many people who vote for or support SF are just anti-establishment who have no loytality at all to SF the party, and will melt away supporting SF once/if SF get into power.
I see Marylou yesterday on the radio going on about pensions and how they would raise employer's PRSI by 4% to cover the cost. Combine this with the wage inflation that will happen when their proposed minium wage hike comes into play and you have a country where the costs of employing somebody will shoot up even more.
I'd imagine many employer's will raise prices for goods and services to cover the costs of this. I'd also imagine that it would cause inflation to go through the roof too. Thus making the living wage go up even more.
They seem to have no idea of the spiraling pension costs, given that people are living much longer than when the 65 year was first mooted.
I have the same feeling as you have outlined in your last paragraph, every lady else pays , but SF core support are protected most.
I listened to her interview on Morning Ireland. Quite illuminating on how awful she was.
It was the usual SF MLMD soundbites when asked a question, but it quickly fell apart if any follow-up question was asked.
No detail, no answers, no thought proces, just all guff and pie in the sky soundbites. If they are serious about being in government, they will have to do much much better.
As another poster mentioned earlier, she wants to increases taxes, employers PRSI, and anyone who earns over 100k, she wants to tax them more as well (I guess 52% ain't enough!!) Then she goes on about trying to get Medical consultants back to Ireland. Hilarious!
It seems the cronyism is fine once you cross the border, and if you are a failed politician from the South, that is the way to go.
you didn't read the article, did you?
Sinn Féin said all appointments to public bodies are subject to oversight and approval by the Independent Commissioner for Public Appointments
The positions are publicly advertised with an interview process.
It said appointments to cross-Border bodies require the approval of the North-South Ministerial Council, which the Taoiseach co-chairs.
I'd be interested to know how the Ní Riada interview went. She was a disaster in any interview she did when running for President.
Mary Lou has previously stated that "the demographics will take care of themselves". Know what she means by this? Me neither. Perhaps she foresaw the advent of pandemics which would re-align the age dependency ratio.
this is a FG thread
Good news, Sinn Fein have stopped opposing housing development in Dublin. This project will consist of 60% affordable housing, 20% social housing and 20% private housing.
In recognition of the balanced of housing types in the proposed development and the urgent need to build homes Sinn Fein councillors decided to use their votes to, em, abstain (or in one cases to absent themselves altogether). If there's anything SF prefers more than opposing things, it's sitting on the fence when work needs to be done.

Sounds like a good news story alright - another win for the most popular party in the country!
Build to rents and bulk buying to rent are making affordability an issue for the public. The state being the customer is a bad deal for the tax payer and the house buying/renting public. The state are helping both the problem and those profiting off it. Well documented.
Sounds like he's talking out his arse. Like yourself he seems to be ignoring the type of housing.
You still confused about the differences between north and south? I recommend you do some reading.
Well done SF/SD/PBP. Job done. Nice to see some parties looking out for the public. We need to go further. Tax payer still paying whatever the cuckoo funds decide.
Anyone thought of asking meehole martin?
North-South Ministerial Council, which the Taoiseach co-chairs.
did Fianna Fail seriously go digging for dirt on sf and come up with something their leader actually co chairs?
Eh, that bit was the standard SF denial, do you have any links to back it up?
That didn't answer the question.
If not building 1600 houses is one of the answers to the housing problem, why isn't knocking down 1600 more a better answer?
I completely and succinctly answered the question.
I'm sure meehole will counter it the first chance he gets (if it aint true) was this the internet version of you having shot your beans in your jocks Blanch?
Actually, I went and did some work for you.
Sinn Fein claimed that "ALL appointments to public bodies are subject to oversight and approval by the Independent Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Well, what do you know? The Irish Independent article mentioned four bodies - Parole Commission, Foras Na Gaeilge, Equality Council and Arts Council. Imagine my surprise (or lack of it) when I went to the website of the Independent Commissioner for Public Appointments and discovered that it only regulated one of that four, were Sinn Fein lying again, or just mistaken?
I think you need to catch up a bit. The Indo setting SF up by quoting their lies in defence.
No, you didn't, because in order to explain that, you need to explain how knocking down 1600 Build to Rent units improves the housing crisis. Otherwise, you are posting nonsense.
Is this something to do with the Coveney vote of no confidence and himself and Varadkar caught lying and engaging in crony makey-up appointments? Because I don't see the connection.
