Seems to be the way for Horizon but going forward any other game upgrade will be a tenner.
Yeah. I'm glad they relented on this one given their previous statement. Still not a fan of the idea of future PS4 to PS5 first party titles having a price difference at all, as again they're moving further away from the value that Xbox is offering rather than moving towards to compete with it.
Just checked to see if they were gonna pull a fast one, but PS4 version is still €10 cheaper on the store.
If I remember correctly Mile Morales and Sackboy launched at the same price on both PS4 and PS5
I don't understand why anyone would want to play this on the PS4 tbh. I remember when Horizon Zero Dawn previews were being shown and it was so pretty that I forgot that all the previews were for the PS4 Pro so when I first booted it up on base console I was thrown off my how much less saturated the colours were. My eyes adapted but it never lived up to the Pro previews, visually.
The PS5 preview they showed (running at 30 fps) for Forbidden West is not gonna look like that on your PS4. You're gonna be playing a downgraded version. It won't even have the hero lighting effect. Why the rush?
Probably because not everyone can get their hands on/afford a ps5...
Of course but why not wait until they can? I know it's hard but this shortage won't last forever.
Money! Not everyone can afford one. Although I will be purchasing PS5 next year
But if someone can't afford a PS5 then they won't be paying the upgrade cost anyway? I'm not trying to be awkward but looking at this logically there seems to be an obvious and easy way around this. It just seems more sensible to wait until you can obtain/afford a PS5 and if one doesn't plan on getting a PS5 then there's no need for worry.
I've a feeling the PS4 version will acquit itself well against the PS5. There's a law of diminishing returns with graphics and while the PS5 version may look better I'd say it will be slight. I don't really see too big a gap between the systems and Guerilla have shown they can do an awful lot on the PS4. Pretty sure it's targeting 30 FPS on both systems, correct me if I'm wrong?
There'll be Performance or Quality modes, 4k or 60fps. I presume it's the same for the PS4 version.
If the game runs at a similar quality to the original Horizon on PS4 - and, as a cross-gen sequel, that’s very possible - it’ll be perfectly playable. No doubt the PS5 will run smoother and at a higher resolution with more image detail. But Guerrilla, if nothing else, are known for their technical chops so I’m sure they’ll do a good job across both consoles.
TBH, I’m not sure we can expect next-gen focused design (not just graphics) from either this or God of War 2 if they’re targeting previous gen consoles anyway. I mean their predecessors looked bloody fantastic anyway, and these will surely look even better. But the sort of super fast, responsive design enabled by the SSD possibly won’t be as evident in the cross gen titles.
At the very least the PS5 will hopefully ensure quicker loading times for fast travelling and more importantly that the console won't sound like it's about to explode if I stay on the map screen too long like it did with HZD, I'll be happy enough.
Turning off v-sync on menus baffles and annoys me on console games!
I'm not sure what that means, but I 100% agree with it.
Basically v-sync stops tearing by holding the framerate at a certain level, so usually 30 or 60 fps.
When you have v-sync off the system will try to display as many frames as it can and in a simple menu that can be 400-500 fps and you end up with the GPU and CPU workload maxed out which is why the playstation sounds like it's about to take off.

Whatever about anything else, this looks like it will be fun at least! Playing back through the first at the moment, and hooked again. Will be a day 1 for me. And now I'm done with trailers, won't watch anything more until I'm playing it.
New Game Informer Article has some cool new details about the new skill tree system in Forbidden West
There are six different playstyle paths, each with around 20-30 skills each. Six playstyles are Warrior (melee attacks), Trapper (placing traps), Survivor (health/resources), Infiltrator (stealth), Hunter (ranged attacks), and Machine Master (hacking). You can mix and match as you choose and do not have to choose just one. Each tree has their own unique Valor surge move.
Examples of skills mentioned include a skill that adds passive health regen. Also, certain skills allow you to put multiple points into them to increase effectiveness. Outfit and weave boosts can also increase the skills further. Some higher level armor can raise skills up 300%
Edit: More new details: -Fighting alongside NPCs happens more often, and they can now sometimes throw out ammo for you
-Bristlebacks can unearth scrap and it embue it with elemental material, then throw it at the player
-Cinematics have been fully upgraded with new facial animations and motion capture
-"Acid arrows" are now a thing, presumably Acid is now a new elemental type
-Petra is back!!! Still as flirty with Aloy as ever
-New side content known as "Melee Pits" can be found in towns. They offer challenges to test your skills and teach you new melee combo attacks and how to chain them together. Sounds kinda like some kind of fighting arena?
-Side quests have better rewards to help make them more meaningful for players. So you are more likely to get cool items like new weapons or armor for beating side quests
-The new Workbench mechanic is where you go to upgrade weapons and armors. There's a bigger focus on requiring machine parts in this game, so whenever you upgrade you almost always need to hunt for a specific machine part.
-Upgrading is explained briefly: for example, the Common Bow has three level of upgrades. Each time you upgrade it at the workbench, the stats get better and you may unlock a new ammo type. For example, upgrading the common bow lets you use Acid Arrows. So it sounds like instead of having to buy the new rarity of bow in order to access new ammo types like you did in Zero Dawn, now you can upgrade weapons to increase ammo capabilities.
-Outfits can be upgraded 3 to 5 times. Upgrading them improves resistances and also increases the skill boost it provides (for example, if you have an armor that improves the "Passive Health Regen" skill, it increases it by a further percentage)
-A new NPC named Alva becomes one of Aloy's new friends in Forbidden West. Supposedly Alva is a member of a "mysterious new tribe" so maybe Utaru and Tenakth aren't the only new players in FW
Jaysus lad, there won't be anything to surprise you if you've taken in all that content! I check this thread, but I haven't read or watched anything to do with the game, but it seems like everything but the ending will be released before it actually comes out!
Honestly ,half the articles I've linked I've just skimmed through. If I see a new video or thread on resetera I just post it here. They haven't really shown much gameplay though, all the latest videos are more tied to new enemies or tribes
Eurogamer just released 2 videos going over the backstory of the first game along with story
This is a day 1 for me, probably the first truly next gen game for the PS5. Looking at pre-order prices, Smyths at 80 bones for the PS5 seems to be the benchmark price, anywhere know of anywhere cheaper for a physical copy?
