Does not sound great in Israel at present
But the reduction in hospitalisations includes the reduction in infections (and detections due to asymptomatic vaccinated never tested).
for example:
100,000 people
80,000 vaccinated, 20,000 unvaccinated
500 cases in vaccinated, of which 10 are hospitalised.
500 cases in unvaccinated, of which 25 are hospitalised.
That's a 90% reduction
It's all a bit odd, their rate of fully vaccinated in hospital is above our rate of under 50%, with about 20% of them in ICU. Our base rate of vaccination is now higher than Israel's and we are both a bit away from 70% of total population but we'll hit it soon enough.
We know brickster69, you don't have to remind us every single day you know...😉
It's tricky to compare countries. We've had a third higher deaths per capita, which may mean they have more susceptible people to hospitalise. Maybe we count deaths differently. Maybe our use of widely spaced AZ has helped. Maybe their vaccine efficacy is waning. Maybe they have genetic differences, or a different mix or rate of comorbidities. Maybe they hospitalise people at a different threshold of disease.

Are vaccinated getting this variant more than once?
Amazing how just last month they were saying boosters might not be safe. The second shot is known to cause more side effects and a third might be even worse
I guess during that brief time frame, all the studies on safety and efficacy have been completed and there are no longer any concerns? Right?
Your viewpoint on vaccines is obvious to everyone based on the multitude of disparaging posts. I'll take boosters no problem.
Each to their own. 🙂
Just be grateful that that he didn't misrepresent the article this time.
In any case, it's speculation that the third shot will be worse. It could well be worse but it could also be better or the same.
Some background regarding booster shots:
Pre-Covid, when a person got infected with a coronavirus (like a common cold coronavirus), the body would produce antibodies. Unlike some other viruses, where antibodies remain in the human body indefinitely, coronavirus antibodies gradually disappear over a time span of around 5 years. The current working assumption is that the same is true for SARS-COV-2, and that there is no difference between antibodies being created as a reaction to an infection vs. reaction to vaccination.
The Covid vaccine triggers the production of antibodies. The bodies of some people - immunosuppressed and elderly - are not as good as others (young and healthy) at producing antibodies - any antibodies, not just SARS-COV-2 related.
So booster shots are considered for both scenarios, with priority on where they're most meaningful (immunosuppressed).
Anybody got the Delta Blues?

New data released yesterday from the Israeli Health Ministry

Thanks for the positive data
Glad to see as more data comes through from Israel they are trending towards what is seen elsewhere. If waning efficacy was as serious as some contented the red and blue lines would be converging
This is the Israel Cases v Deaths Pyramid Chart 67% vaccinated:
Confirmed Cases v Deaths / Gordon Smith / Observable (observablehq.com)
By comparison this is the Portugal (77% vaccination) v Bangladesh (9.6 % Vaccination):
Wrong thread sorry.
Why did you show 17 days of data for vaccine effectiveness in 12-15 year olds ?
Did you notice anything not so great in that real world data that you were concerned about in any way ?
Because it’s positive data.
And the severe Covid data shows breakthrough infections are significant less likely to result in severe disease
Now has anyone asked themselves the question has to why the vast majority of breakthrough cases in Israel were vaccinated in January to March?
Any chance it might have something to do with he fact that 90% of those fully vaccinated in Israel were fully done by the end of March?
You have to look past the raw data and question what it says actually says. This Israeli data does not suggest waning immunity, just lower resistance to delta than alpha, but still strong resistance to severe disease.
You are missing something out what the USA noticed and looks like they have decided to give boosters to everyone. Did you not notice what it was ?
Oh do please tell, the suspense is killing me?
They've called it the pandemic of the unvaccinated, they're hoping that boosters reduce the transmission rates so that the unvaccinated are less likely to catch it. It's a plaster over the real problem they're having in the US (vaccine skepticism that was boosted by the previous idiot in chief).
No, they literally said today that the vaccines effectiveness is "waning". Hence the booster recommendation. Did you miss it?
And also, breakthrough cases are increasing. Just like Israel

Here is Joe. Anyone ask him why yet ?
Did you look and nothing concerned you ?
First time i have heard Dr. John a bit down in the dumps. His latest vid
I have no idea why that lad is so prominent, he has a PhD in nursing and no qualification in epidemiology or immunology as far as I'm aware. He's treated by some as some sort of authority on all things Covid.
I find it fascinating how you seem to jump between quotes at press conferences and random studies to try and support your narratives, it must get tiring.
The problem the US and Israel faces is the struggle to get beyond 60% vaccinated, boosters do nothing to help that. They would be much more effectively deployed against the unvaccinated. Biden won't call them idiots, but everyone else will.
Well they seem to be pretty certain that the vaccine protection is waning and they keep saying it. But sure you know better. Good luck .
