Commission proposal for a common vaccination card/passport for EU citizens
The ultimate goal of a vaccination passport would be to ensure that children who move between countries with different immunisation schedules do not miss out on crucial vaccinations. A similar scheme is already in place for pets and has helped boost vaccination rates, according to the European Commission.
It'll scan into the app alright. It won't scan on the scanner they use for indoor dining. It'll come up invalid until day 7
Yep, afraid so. Checked them all ☹️
Does anyone know can you enter Ireland from Spain using the vaccination cards. Vaccinated since February and still no bloody cert. I'm abroad and have already waited about 40 euro credit with the complete waste of time helpline. So frustrating
the "Helpline" is some waste of time. They claim to be prioritizing those travelling within 5 days. How do they prioritize me when they doont answer the damn phone to find out when we are travelling.
2hrs yesterday, another 2 today.
Was vaccinated outside the HSE system, but is on the portal as fully vaccinated. Why cant those fools just run a DB script to send out a mail to anyone who has both vaccines - its a 10 min coding job, any fool could manage - even the HSE idiots could.
At this stage I think its a ploy to deter/stop folks travelling.
passport office is the same - they are flooded with an unusually high number of applications. guess what, when this happens every year, its not unusual ! Plan for it !
Irish Civil Servants - working for themselves and no one else
Hope so. My husband is in the same boat. Vaccinated since February too. Flying home on 7th Aug. We reckon he should be grand using the card
Phoned the helpline at 8.30 yesterday morning. On hold for ten hours until they hung up on me at 6.30pm. On hold again this morning since 8.30. It is incredibly frustrating!!
Fully vaccinated since June with my GP. Called helpline 21 jul to be told my cert was posted 19 July and to wait 5 working days. Nothing came.
called again 27 jul, told my cert wasnt posted but emailed to an o2 email address from 15 years ago.! She updated my details and said it would be 5 working days. Nothing yet.
Online portal coming (about time)
Is Leo Varadkar making it up as he goes along, just read the attached, he's now suggesting that HSE Vacination cards can not only be used for indoor dining, but Travel, I'm completely confused, is Leo not aware of the recent Malta incident? How can a cardboard card with zero identification details apart from a name be used for Travel let alone verification of Vacination. What am I missing here? I certainly wouldn't be taking the risk of travelling without my digital cert

UK's plans to replace cash with centralised digital currency: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9821855/Rishi-Sunak-plans-replace-cash-official-digital-currency.html#comments
You can see where all this is going - won't be using these certs! The Covid cert is looking like a stepping stone to a digital ID card and who knows what else.
This is sounding more and more like the crap they pulled with the PSC card. Starts out as one thing and then is extended to include a lot that was originally envisaged.
It really is, I'm just astonished Leo would come out with this new notion. It makes a mockery of those who've spent countless hours trying to resolve covid cert issues. I was certainly not aware any pubor restaurant are accepting anything other than the Digital Cert, wasn't there uproar over how easy the HSE cards could be forged but more importantly its clear EU countries will be looking for Digital Certs from anyone entering.
I think the journalist might have added that part herself. The press release the rest of the statement came from doesn't mention it.
Serious error if that's the case, actually shocking
Press release and Tweet. Always worth checking out the source of these statements, considering how many people have got into bother following wrong advice.
Bit surely this can't be correct, how is a HSE Vacination card verified, does this not defeat the purpose of proper verification protocols? As I've stated previously these cards (albeit why would anyone bother) are easily forged
A friend of mine was told today that a vaccination card would not be acceptable to dine indoors, now they allowed him in because they knew him, but told him in future he has to have the DCC. They (politicians) seem to be talking out of both sides of their mouths, and are going out of their way to make it even more confusing for people!
Why couldn't the HSE have issued these on a plastic card like a work lanyard?
It might cost extra, albeit only marginally (about a few cents per card, it's just cheap plastic) but will cut down on calls to the centre for torn or damaged certs caused by spillages, ware and tare etc and fit neatly in wallet with other cards.
It will also reduce falsification in restaurants and pubs which may not have the facility to discern whether or not a paper cert is fake or not.
That place hasnt read the failte ireland guidlines then
vaccine card is fully allowed
Your friend was told wrong. Legislation gives specific reference to the vaccination card, it's been in there since it was passed.
Because the majority of them were issued by email, so the cost would be hugely increased by having to post all of those.
France have been accepting the HSE card as evidence since 1 July.
I honestly don't think it would make a difference honestly, they are meaningless with regard to verification of Vacination. A name, Vacination type and dates does not prove the person presenting it, is that person. They are absolutely not acceptable for travel despite Leo's latest announcements.
You might link to where he said that cause I haven't been able to find it.
Well people seem to be making up their own rules! I have both but haven't tried it yet myself.
On the DCC cert, people that are resident in a hotel can dine and drink whether they are vaccinated or not, but someone can't go into the same hotel for their lunch or a coffee, without having the DCC, so I could be unvaccinated but staying in a hotel, and someone who is vaccinated could be sitting opposite me, assuming I too am vaccinated! Apologies if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any change to that farce of rule.
Certainly, this article has been updated since I originally posted it, no changes in what Leo said
Those who are fully vaccinated do not need to have a Digital Covid Cert to dine indoors.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said today that the HSE vaccination card is also acceptable proof of immunity.
However, those looking to dine indoors may be asked to present a photo ID to show that it is their cert or card.
This is also the same for travelling within the EU. If someone hasn’t received their Digital Covid Cert yet they can use their vaccination card as proof to travel.
It's a separate statement in the same article, on first impressions it appears to be something he said but I think it's just poor journalism, or intentionally misleading. As I said before the article seems to be cobbled together from a press release and something he said on Twitter, neither of which mention using the card for travelling.
Malta certainly were not. I accept some countries may not be following what was intended, namely a Digital Cert and I do stand to be corrected but the impression I got from various announcements, Guidence etc was the Digital certs was way to open up travel throughout the EU, millions has been spent on implementing this idea, seems very odd a piece of non discript card is now acceptable. I guess my point is the utter confusion and mix messaging is quite extraordinary and unacceptable
Yes, I agree and this is why I am confused and was taken aback. I suppose my main point is regardless of your status, how is it possible the HSE card acceptable for all the reasons pointed out, but yes, it could be poor journalism. I have both, not travelling but when I saw this, I was thinking of all those who missed flights, couldn't get certs on time etc.
It's acceptable for use in this country because there's specific legislation saying it's a valid form of proof. Sure it's easily fakeable but that's not the problem of someone using it legitimately.
