load of boolox they don't want to pay for extra staff electric 2.5k plus to sky , if it was raining none of these saps would be saying that . pricks also thought they could get crss too sad sap,s trying to make pubs closed for 1.5 years look bad
Wow!!
Enjoy the indoor pints everyone
Let's hope these placed are open longer than last year. Remember Dr Tony will be watching
Most places won't bother their bollix scanning anything and rightfully so.
Expect it to happen the first few days esp today when the news cameras are around
The system might be phased out gradually
“Gradually “
probably over the next 10 years
Just back from two places in town for a look around so to speak. First spot didn't care one jot about a cert, and it was hopping (mainly of regular clientele watching the racing). Second spot, which I would regard as my "local", just had a young one at the door asking you whether you are vaccinated or not, and took contact tracing details. Not exactly Fort Knox.
It was fecking super to be able to get a pint without any rigmarole.
Great to see the Monday club back in full force in the local, few of them couldn't be arsed with the food/outside gimmick, so they haven't had a pint that wasn't a side door job in over a year.
Can also confirm the scanner will say not valid if you are within the 7/14 day window after jab 2.
Just reading an article on rte.ie about five things you need to know about the rules of indoor dining and one is proof of ID which they suggest is a passport or drivers license. I don’t have a drivers license and I’m not bringing my passport with me to drink. And also it’s my local I’ve been drinking for over ten years, so you’d assume they’d know me. Hopefully these rules are changed as we go along as we get way more people vaccinated as it’s clear the level of risk doesn’t require this level of rules.
That’s where the card passport is real handy.
Just take a photo of your passport, if anyone isn't willing to accept it they clearly don't want you in there.
Oh that’s an idea. I’d assumed it was the physical thing.
Really
Balls anyway, I guess its outdoors for me till next monday
Yep....
That’s interesting. I didn’t think they’d have it set up that way. I mean I got my second jab on Saturday and got my digital cert this morning. So looks like I’ll have to wait until the bank holiday weekend then.
The two weeks was one they’ve said all along for the vaccines. Not directly in relation to the pubs but it would be fairly expected that you’d need to wait. I still need the wife to get hers and do her 2 weeks before I can go.
Yeah, but the same people who thought the government didn't know days because outdoor reopening was a bank holiday Monday wanted to believe it was a fcuk up...
Are you not allowed out to the pub on your own!
I am indeed, infact I’d have to go on my own as she’d have no interest in going. But for the sake of a few weeks there’s no point in risking dragging it home to her until she’s as fully protected as she can be. I’ve survived this long without going.
Normal Monday afternoon of the Galway races in the local. Good crowd, mainly regulars. No cert checking or any other crap. Nice to be back to normal.
Well them having a system to make sure people aren’t in pubs before their time, is because it’s in their interests to make this work because many have been closed for well over a year and don’t want to close again.
Imagine being an adult and paying taxes and being unvaccianted you are like a 17 year old hoping to get into a nightclub without a bouncer asking for ID.
What a country.
Have to say that I really didn't mind the outdoor service, particularly for the last few weeks with the fine weather, but it was good for the soul to have a pint indoors yesterday! We're nearly there lads, next step is a bit of music and being able to sit at the bar and we'll be back to normal. Although, in a perverse way, I am going to miss pintmanpaddylostys posts on here😅
Go to one of your regulars and you'll be grand.
I still believe we will get to the stage where Hospitality will be a target of NPHET again esp with the Autumn/Winter coming in and all the festivities they involve
One positive from the Cert is that it will make it tougher for them to close down Hospitality unless a big new variant arrives
All they have to say to the Government is 'we believe case numbers will rise because of activity in Hospitality and in turn could lead to the hospitals been overrun. we recommend the closure on these business for xx weeks' and MM will obey
I don't see it. I know you feel NPHET has been out to get the industry. I just think they're incredibly cautious. I don't see any malice in it. Hell the little game shop I used to go to every week to play some games with folks (like 8 - 10 people) are being told they still aren't allowed to have us inside. Is NPHET anti-boardgames more than anti-drink?
So far I've seen a tendency towards checking, but this is pubs pretty close to Dublin city centre who know they have to be straight-laced. Most have stuck to outdoor dining for simplicty sake.
they will check at the start and in a few months the checking will stop as most places won’t be bothered checking anymore
Here we go again, the pubs aren't open a week and people are already prophesising their closure with idle speculation.
Can I ask you what is the basis for your belief? Bearing in mind that we will have ~75-80% of the entire population vaccinated with highly effective vaccines which, in most cases, prevent infection and, even when not preventing infection ensure Covid is nothing more than a mild head cold. Yes we will have cases, but cases are largely irrelevant at this point. Look at other countries who are moving on and accepting cases, but monitor metrics such as hospital admissions and/or ICU admissions. We might even see a uptick in these, but with vaccination, it will be nothing like before. So why would there be whole-scale closures as you outline?
The way they acted last October still lingers in the mind
