was in a pub last night indoors drinking, table service only, very strict place, but pretty much their own rules made up
Was down the country in a popular tourist town at the weekend.Was impossible to get somewhere to get a meal and drinks. Most places were full or booked out completely. Lucky enough we could head back to the hotel for a bite to eat and drinks. The centre of the town was crazy with teenagers and youths who were pretty drunk early. This will only get worse when the pubs fully reopen where unvaccinated people will not be allowed in a pub who will end up drinking in town centres and parks

Indoor and outdoor pubs are controlled environment's (even if NPHET don't trust indoor publicans). House parties were happening before the pandemic, during it and after it
Yep, controlled environments, noone has ever been drunk or loud or squashed together in a pub.....
Nobody is denying that pubs can, in normal times, be full of drunk, loud and squashed people. However, in the main, pubs that are open now are very regulated and controlled, and don't yet resemble the pubs of old (but will do soon, hopefully). Of course, there will be the odd exception, but to deny that house parties are any safer than pubs at present is disingenuous. Unless it's the kind of dinner party the likes of NPHET would be hosting (i.e. dinner, 1/2 glasses of wine and home to bed)
Yes I agree, the majority of pubs are doing everything by the book right now, but trying to paint Irish pubs as a "controlled environment" is ridiculous. if they were, half of us wouldn't be here. They're conveyor belts of drunkenness, get you in, get you locked and try get you out before you become a problem, rinse and repeat the next week.
And I'd wager the majority of house parties aren't as you described, but also aren't skins/project X ragers, they're just people in a house having drinks, and pubs aren't going to be checking if people are living together, so sitting on a couch at a gaffer is going to be no different than sitting at a table down the boozer.

If number two is true then good luck to anyone with children trying to book a table. How would it be remotely feasible to suddenly manufacture 2 metres between tables (for the entirely of the dining experience of those with children) if the setup in a restaurant is for 1 metre distancing in order to maximise patrons?
The vaxx assessment is going to be chaos. I seriously doubt they'll be able to push out a scanning app that quickly, and then there's the issue of how far behind the certificate mailout is.
Suppose it's acceptable bit the last point could be chaotic esp with the usual Irish chancer mentality (ah bud I'm vaccinated I forgot my cert, ah I didn't know I had to bring it etc)

The family thing could cause an issue, can't see many pubs being happy having to close off 2 tables so a dad bringing his son to watch the match, but the rest seems reasonable. Hopefully a full overhaul of the intoxicating liquor act is coming.

i think we all know the pubs where there wont be much checking of vaccinated or not, whats working well in a lot of pubs i see is people going in ordering there pints and going back out again. so you go straight up to the bar. probably the easiest thing is stick a dj on for the u25s outside and let everyone over 30 inside.
I doubt live music including DJs will be permitted for the short term
Its makes people raise there voices, encourages gatherings and all that
Will watching a match in a pub still be a thing? With limited capacity you'd have to question the cost of the various different subscriptions if you're a publican
