Because the hope is that in six months time the virus won’t be as much in circulation in the community.
So July 26th is now the target date but guess what is happening the following weekend . The August Bank Holiday
Me thinks the rise in numbers will be used to delay once again. Really really hope I'm wrong
Ironically, this eatery in Derry which was used as an example of Southerners heading to, has been closed due to covid outbreak among their staff
I’m in Portugal and they have introduced restrictions on indoor dining at the weekends.(covid is a weekend thins :-\ ) You need the digital green cert or you can do an antigen test. The test costs €3 in the pharmacy. That’s the key difference, other countries follow the science, Ireland is inexplicably against antigen testing
Questions:
Why will they have time limits now for fully vaxed people and not in just say 6months time? What will be different then?
Why will unvaccinated people have to sit out side now and not in 6months time?
Fundamental problem is that there is no slack nor goodwill left for the government to do anything other than to reopen things. Way numbers are going there is even a case for actually closing down, but businesses cannot hold out any longer and respect for distancing/mask regulations is clearly in freefall.
Well, they should have everyone from mid 30s up fully vaccinated within a month or so i believe. Then you have quite alot of the age group below this availing of the one shot Janssen, So a large cohort of people fully done within this time frame. So it seems to me that anyone who wants a vaccine at the moment has the means to get one fairly quickly - at least that's my perception.
When we had indoor dining last year we only had a handful of cases. Like literally a handful - 4 or 5 everyday. Today we had 1000. So from that point of view i see it as a step forward, compared to the last few months where it was an infuriating "will they or wont they open the pubs" situation.
Do i fully agree with the whole reopening plan? No. But i see certain merit in it.
Yeah, the time limit is infuriating. Some places not too strict on it thankfully.
How does it only last a few weeks? They won't have all adults fully vaccinated till September.
I'm similar to yourself. First dose got. Should have second dose in three weeks time.
What about people with allergies to the vaccine? Will they ever be allowed in the door? You've the antivaxxers too although I'm not really bothered with them to be honest.
I don't see it as a means to an end as there will always be unvaccinated people so I don't get how it will only last a few weeks.
I also don't see it as a step forward. Maybe two steps back and one forward but we had indoor dining last summer without any of this.
And the only point I was making was for those who are vaccinated, why is there a time limit. I’m not going to going to a pub for couple more weeks which is fine but for those who have gotten the vaccine and have been told to live again then if they want to go to their local pub then why can’t they sit there for the night and enjoy themselves. That’s my only issue with the whole thing. I can’t go into a pub because I’m not fully vaccinated and I get that.
If it's a choice between letting vaccinated people in now or waiting for the "last stragglers" then i choose the former. Cause it's a step forward.
There would be people complaining either way. A large cohort both ways.
Discrimination, maybe. But fairly light in the grand scheme, as you alluded to yourself. I think we have to suck it up and hope that it only lasts the few weeks that it should.
It literally is discrimination though. The government decided who could and couldn't get the vaccine which was mostly based on age. Now they're linking your access to goods and services to that initial decision to discriminate against you on the basis of your age.
Now the people comparing themselves to Rosa Perks or calling it medical apartheid need to wind their neck in.
I won't die on a hill over access to a pub or restaurant but I can see why people are pissed off with it.
The time to bring this in would be when we're struggling to get the last stragglers vaccinated. Not when everybody hasn't had the same opportunity to be vaccinated.
I'm one of those people and while i don't necessarily agree with the vaccine cert requirement i'm happy to go with it; seeing as:
a) I'll be fully vaxed in a few weeks
b) as should pretty much all the population over 18 i believe
c) We have outdoor options. Some of which are pretty decent.
d) It's a means to an end. Indoor hospitality is opening which should only be viewed as a good thing.
Difficult for publicans to police. Puts them in a very awkward position and a lot probably wont. 50/50 that my local publican does i'd say.
People shouting discrimination need to get over themselves IMO. We've had 18 months of lockdowns where our freedoms have been infringed upon. I think we can take another couple of weeks of not getting access to an indoor pub if need be.
Rise in cases is worrying. 1000 today. What will happen if they reach 3000 or 5000. I wouldn't be too optimistic but we are very close to the point where we just need to get on with things.
It just that it's Summer and it's nice to be outside having a pint. I presume time limits would be for inside?
But either indoor dining is opening up or it isn’t for those vaccinated. Why should people need to pop back in and out with their pints ? To be clear I won’t be going near a pub for at least two weeks after they open given my second dose date and then the week after that.
Not sure I get your point. It does protect and I'm sure people can pop in and out with their pints.
Does anyone find it a bit stupid that the vaccine which is meant to give us more freedoms then we’ve had the past year and a half only last a certain time in a pub. Either the vaccine protects us or it doesn’t.
have a look in your junk mail
Has anyone actually received a vaccination certificate? We were told that they would all be emailed out by today, but my inbox is empty...
The pubs really are been taken for a ride by the government and NPHET. This new system will be chaos and its very hard to see places enforcing it successfully. People with only 1 dose been disqualified through no fault of their own
MM saying its about safety and not discrimination
A week or so away from a pint and I can't even get excited. You can predict the next few weeks a mile off.
Within a week- footage goes viral of some small town pub full of dozens people too young to have the vaccine.
Mix that with a rise in cases,.Tony comes out and says they all need to close because pubs can't be trusted to enforce the checks.
With any luck that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, an absolute call to arms, civil disobedience, pubs refusing to follow the order, street protests, the whole lot. I want this stuff to force an early election, I want people jailed, left bankrupt by civil actions, the whole lot of it.

Where exactly are these mysterious young people who are terrified of catching Covid? Only ones out there seem to be Paul Murphy/ Brid Smith etc youth wings, none of whom would know what a workplace even looked like.

Especially going into the Autumn and winter people will just stay home and have house parties as they have been doing...
