Yep I think you'd be correct in those assumptions. It's turning into a bit of a disaster really. For example, all Irish LH operations are under one pension fund, so that's implicated in this as well. Don't be surprised if big wigs in Germany decide to pull ALL operations here in Ireland. This is about saving money to position themselves as a world leader to dominate when the pandemic is broadly over and planes need repairs again. Employees are just numbers.

Err... sorry. I was on several of the flights. In fact I was on the very first one as I got upgraded to a business class seat.

Lufthansa Technik Shannon is on the road to establishing itself as a center of excellence for the conclusion of aircraft lease projects and the associated transitions.

Lufthansa Technik Shannon has an EASA Part 147 approved Maintenance Training Department on site. The Aviation Services Training Department is one of the most experienced and respected in the industry, providing Basic Training, Type Training and EASA Part 145 Mandatory Continuation Training in addition to design and deliver a variety of training products and services for the marketplace.

Top photos are the wrong facility, that's Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon. They specialise in engine components repair and overhaul. The only thing they have in common with Shannon aerospace is the same owners, LHT in Hamburg. LHT also recently opened a on wing engine support company based in Dublin, but have a few employees based in Shannon. It's a small company at the moment.
The speculation purely surrounds Shannon aerospace only. And my understanding is that there isn't a lot the government can do to help, the decision will be made at board level in Hamburg.

That never dropped or collected passengers either though. Was just a tech and pre clearance stop.

It was jfk to Shannon, then Shannon to lhr. 2 completely separate flights.

Ah they were two seperate scheduled services from Shannon. The NEO only operated SNN/LHR & SNN/JFK for two weeks before COVID and they didnt even do LHR daily——LHR was operated by the NEO 3 weekly and rest was 320..SNN LHR started on the NEO on the 04.03.2020 and JFK stopped on the 18.03.2020. There was just one NEO in Shannon until Feb 2020 operating Boston.

End of 2019 —- people moved from the 757 to the 320 service to LHR. it Definitely wasnt LHR - JFK via Shannon.

The schedule looks identical to what was proposed in 2019 just the Neo rotation is missing.

More than 500 jobs at risk at Lufthansa’s Shannon base (Business Post)

Lufthansa Technik, the aircraft maintenance and repair business, is carrying out a strategic review of its Shannon operations which could result in the business being sold or closed down, the Business Post can reveal.

The German firm employs over 500 people at its Shannon facility, making it one of the largest employers in the midwest region.

I would expect that if they are to come back this year it would surely coincide with Cork -LHR being stopped for a period from September?

If they did it would be manchester- Snn -Boston or something along the lines like that
They would only stop for a pick up along the way as one of the mangers said in passing they dont know anything anyway till later in july.

There is now a massive gap in the market for a UK/Ireland regional airline now that Flybe and Stobart are gone bust. Clear route viability but Flybe had a hangover from poor management in the last few years and Stobart had all the EI contract stuff plus both were affected by the pandemic.

Clear number of routes viable from regional airports around the islands. Nice efficient ATRs or lesser so Dash 8s. No buying gas guzzling E195s and running them down to the Mediterranean.

Are you sure of this? I got told by SNN that EI are definitely returning but Sept earliest. SNN LHR schedule got updated this week to what looks like a return from Sept 13th by DUB based crew. SNN also said TA flights would return!?

These regional routes have a way of surprising us, i wouldn't be entirely sure they won't come back in some shape or form under some operator by the end of 2022.

Aer Lingus are finished in Shannon. There will be no reset on this. Barring a diversion that can't make Dublin or Cork we won't see an EI aircraft here for years.
