A few days away from the second Slam of the year. I guess for the men's Nadal has to be favourite. Is there anyone that beat him here? As for the ladies for me its wide open with 3 or 4 players that can win. I see Osaka has said she is not doing any press at the French Open for her mental health. I don't see her winning it.

I think Djokovic's reaction last night after the match was a little over the top and slightly bizarre tbh, but, don't think it was disrespectful to Berrettini and tbh it probably didn't even register with Berrettini after losing the match. It's great to see the players get animated during the match and show some passion.

Hawkeye isn't deemed reliable on clay surfaces because the clay moves. They are working on it though and only a matter of time before they are able to make it accurate enough to use.

Okay. I’d just assumed all the grand slams used Hawkeye but I can see the point as to why they don’t use it when you think about it.

The margin of error is too high on clay, apparently.

Disappointing result for me again. Hopefully Pavlyuchenkova wins it now, but my kiss of death has been pretty strong this tournament so I expect Barbora will do it.

Very entertaining finish to that match, both had chances to win it, but, Krejčíková was the more composed and calm player in the key moments, Sakkari was a bit too anxious on the big points.

Well, the quality wasn't great, but the drama just built and built in that final set. And of course having no final set tie-break helped ...

The sheer will to win by Krejčvoth physically and mentally was remarkable. To fight so hard to get into the deserved position of match point. She sees her opponent hit the ball long, meaning she wins the biggest match of her life.. Instant excitement and elation.. The Referee bottles it and decides the other way.(you could see by how red faced the umpire was after, that he made the biggest mistake of his career ) . Instant deflation and disbelief.. To be able to accept that harrowing shock and maintain focus to win is incredible.

I don't think you can blame the umpire. There is no way a human can make a crucial objective decision with that amount of pressure on the decision

Barbora Krejčíková is into the semis in the singles, she's into the semis in the doubles, and she could have been in the semis of the mixed doubles

The money in doubles isn't great though, typically about 20% of that in singles, and that's per team. Mixed doubles prize money is probably only about half again of the doubles. Certainly for the men playing best of 5 singles, with any ambition to go deep, playing doubles is usually not a good idea.

As well as the best of 5 v best of 3 anomaly, there is another reason many women singles players also play doubles during the slams: For most of the year on the regular tour, they only earn about 60% of what the men do, with both playing best of 3 sets. There are actually only a few tournaments where it's equal pay for equal work. That's in doubles as well as singles. So that extra bit of doubles money in the slams is not to be sniffed at.

So for all these reasons, there are substantially more "specialist" doubles teams in the men's game.

Krejčíková will probably have to cut back on her doubles commitments in the future, but not at the upcoming Wimbledon. She has no real singles form on grass*, but she has won the doubles there before, as well as at the French.

*She's never even played in the main draw of the Wimbledon singles before, but she's going to be seeded this year. I smell an early exit, especially as she'll have very little time to prepare on grass.

Tsitsipas probably has too much for Zverev in the first semi today, he has a more dependable game over five sets and while Zverev has looked good he has played pretty mediocre opponents so far.

As for the other semi, given the fact that I actually has Djokovic as slight favorite in last year final, and how that turned out, its really hard to look past Nadal. Djokovic needs to being the fire and brimstone rather than last years passivity and even that might only get him a set. Nadal is in slight but noticeable physical decline, this could be his last chance to get to 21. Hoping Djokovic makes him work for it at the very least.

Hope Tsitsipas wins today as he is likely to at least be semi competitive in the final, if Zverev gets through he'll just fold like a pack of cards.

Nadal will probably have too much for Djokovic, but, don't think it'll be straight forward, can see it going to 5 sets. Hopefully it'll tire out Nadal enough to make the final competitive. Still very hard to see past any winner other than Nadal.

Djokovic has to be "on it" with his service today like he was against Berrettini to give himself a chance

His returning was also mightily impressive in that match

but you never know how service will go from one day to the next

even a few % change in FSI and FSW can make all the difference

I feel that Djokovic will have up the risk level also and go for more winners and I think that he will try that but it could backfire with the UE count

i think it's will go to a minimum of four sets although hopefully not.

Can't see Rafa being as imperious as last year.

Definitely would'nt rule out Djokovic.

It would be nice for Djokovic if he can avoid getting bagelled or breadsticked like last year.
