I'm not a big fan of his media work but McGinley on Off The Ball was very good this week talking about his first Masters and talking about the course itself. Very interesting.

Yeah seems to be getting worse all the time. I like to see the leaders and unless it's a big name you see very little of them.

Penalty

Coverage tonight has been very poor - constantly showing the same players.

With the coverage you would think there’s only 6 players in the course.

Don’t remember it ever being this bad.

There's a fair bit of banter between them alright, including Dougherty. Coltart and Dougherty in particular have a chip on their shoulder about not succeeding more in their playing careers. McGinley rises above it, but this week he has been basking in the World Cup win in 97 at Kiawah with Harro. In fairness last night McGinley said that Harro put on a short game exhibition that week.

He probably has, but it was just a well timed dig at him, Coltart is not too bad, except for fancying whoever is leading the tournament. He must like the chances of Corey Connors this week. Rich Beem battled away yesterday and was level after 16, but bogeyed 8&9, to finish +2, ahead of some big names, (McIlroy, Thomas, Dustin), despite Coltart sneering and hoping he wouldnt break 80, I got a great laugh during the masters, when Coltart said we all know about the slopes and gradient of this Augusta national course, and Beem replied, "How do you know? You never played here" I think there's a bit of needle between them two sometimes, nothing too serious but it shows up from time to time. It's a really tough course, the winning score may be around - 7 or 8.

Familiarity certainly breeds contempt when it comes to golf commentators anyway.

I always liked the NBC team with Miller and Feherty. NBC is by far the best network for sport when it comes to production values and commentary.

Cant stand Faldo. Every sentence, no matter what point he's trying to make, dissolves into incoherent cockneyisms and nothingness by the time he's finished. How anyone let him near a commentary box after his opening ceremony speech at the 08 Ryder Cup is quite beyond me. The US has an inferiority complex when it comes to the British, that has to be the only reason he's lasted as long as he has. Nobody knows what he's talking about but the US fans must think he's being quaint; whichever it is, Emperor Faldo hasnt had any clothes on for a long time now and he'll be found out sooner or later.

Nantz is far far more sycophantic than Ewen Murray. Been working at CBS for 30 years and has never criticised a player once within that period. I dont care if that is the main part of his job, that's just unsettling for a sports broadcaster.

I agree Dottie Pepper is superb on the course. IBF is a solid pro. Azinger is woeful. Hicks only marginally better than Nantz. Maltbie and North are both good.

It was such a breath of fresh air not having to endure the likes of Riley, Coltart etc who actively ruin the coverage.

The CBS commentators are so superior. I remember early in the season I tried seeing if it was possible to get the CBS stream online and tune it into the tv but unfortunately it’s not.

I watched the Masters on Eir Sports so as not to have the Sky commentators but we’ll be stuck with the Sky guys for the PGA it appears.
